Welcome, castaways! Lost 1.12

ABC is really using Lost to pimp the hell Alias.

No, I thought the same thing. Charlie was Locke’s first apostle, Boone is the second. I don’t think Locke’s evil at all, he just comes up with very bold ways of making weak people stronger. He’s a terrific character and I’ll be furious if he’s killed off.

Excellent observation, I didn’t even think of that.

I really hope Lost is released on DVD as soon as season one ends because I can’t wait to watch it all over again

:smack: That was supposed to read "ABC is really using Lost to pimp the hell out of Alias.

Forgot to add:

At the beginning of the episode during the “previously on Lost” part they showed shirtless blond muscle guy again. They need to quit teasing me and bring him into the show.

Mystery solved! Clearly, the TCM’s a Balrog. :stuck_out_tongue:

What a lame cop out.

That’s the second time they’ve now tricked us into thinking someone’s dead.

Someone better actually end up dead one of these times.

Not really. A cop out would be if they avoided the logical consequences of what happened. This was obviously a hallucination (in a show that has established that hallucinations are common on this island) from the time Shannon showed up, so they just played it out.

Charlie was a cop-out, kinda, but again they didn’t have to hang him in the first place. It was a hell of a dramatic moment.

I agree that they should think long and hard before they pull the “he’s dead! Psych!” thing again.

So, to sum up
Criminals:
Sun (and Jin by association)
Kate
Sawyer
Sayiid (kinda, he may have found himself in Gitmo had he stayed in Iraq a bit longer)
Shannon
Charlie (barely, he was smuggling drugs, but as a junkie he’s the most trustworthy of this bunch)

Probable Psychos:
Locke
Boone
Rousseau
Jack

And next episode we’ll find out about Micheal and Walt’s seedy past. I’m sure that whenever his turn comes, we’ll find out Hurley is a serial killer, or something. Gilligan’s Island this ain’t.

Good Lord, I hope not. Although it wouldn’t surprise me to find out that he is, in the sense that he plays one of those “killer” games regularly (with the water or paintball guns), or that he plays a bad guy in his RPG or something.

I’m sorry. The “pee on my foot” bit was funny, but the “Your wife’s hot” line was much funnier.

I’m still not seeing Locke as a bad guy. I think he’s more putting pieces in place for whatever is to come, sort of like Steven King’s “The Stand.” Locke knows something important is coming, and he knows how to get people moving in the right direction. He doesn’t know exactly what is coming or what exactly they’ll be doing (though it’s likely Claire and baby); he just knows something big is coming and that people will be needed.

As far as sides go, I don’t see there being as dramatic a schism as some here have theorized. I think it’s more likely those who believe they’ve been put on the island for a purpose and those who think it was just another plane crash and just want to get off of the island.

When Locke said the goo was for later, I think he knew that we was going to be whacking Boone and would need to do some wound tending. He knew Boone was likely going to want to tell Shannon if not every one else, and that a vision quest would be needed. Again, he didn’t know when. He just knew it was necessary.

I’m also wondering if the TCM is different things to different people. On the first night, it makes sense that everyone would be dreading what was in the dark and spooooooky forest, so ole TCM became a TCM. At the other crash cite Jack, Charlie, and Kate all expected to see a TCM. Once they actually got into the forest and their fears lessened, the TCM stopped appearing as much and has become more of a spiritual guide.

On the whole “Claire” thing, I don’t think that they have been searching because of other concerns. Jack has been taking care of the groups medically. Sayid is trying to figure out the french maps. Locke has been “working” on the door. That leaves the merry band of Charlie, Kate, and Sawyer to go traipsing about the forest floor. Not exactly the first string search party there. Also, Ethan told Jack that if he kept following, one of them (Claire and Charlie) would die. Jack follows and finds Charlie just hanging around. It’s also fairly clear that Ethan kidnapped Claire on purpose, making it less likely that he would just kill her.

Next weeks episode: IMHO, it’s a polar bear that has Walt cornered next week. I saws me some white fur round them pearly white fangs. Also, did anyone else cheer a bit when we saw Charlie punch Sawyer in his arm wound. Go lil hobbit.

Did anyone notice in the police station, when Boone is trying to report on Shannon’s “abuser,” that the guy they brought in was Sawyer? The one the cop said, “Now, if that were your sister’s boyfriend, I could arrest him?”

So, Boone is now free from his sister. And I missed the episode where Ethan kidnapped Claire.

And I love Hurley. “Dude, just pee on my foot, okay? Just pee on it!” with grabbing motions toward’s Jin’s crotch. Did his foot ever get healed from stepping on the sea urchin?

That’s what I want for my birthday.

Later, he was hobbling around using a stick to walk, so I guess not.

I wonder what Jin said to Sun after he gave Hurley the fish? Something like, “The big white guy can’t hold his sea urchin, and he’s farting like an elderly goat.”

Just a note about Shannon; someone mentioned that they were disappointed that the writers didn’t give us much of a reason to like Shannon this episode. (Not sure if this counts as a spoiler or not, so I’ll play it safe: I’m not revealing any plot points, though)

Since apparently Sun and Jin will have separate flashback episodes (even though their stories are tied together) maybe we can expect Shannon to have her own episode at some point to add some ‘likability’ to her character. After all, this episode’s flashback was pretty much all about Boone…

Well I know that but the question was asked of “why was Sawyer was at the Oz poilce station when his flashback was in the U.S.?” The show has not yet addressed this, so I referred the question to previous threads on the matter. It has been specualted that since Sawyer had borrowed money from Mr. PoolPlayingBadAss and he walked out leaving the money with the mark (and not paying it back to BadAss), it’s possible that he high-tailed it to Oz to beep BadAss from ripping his throat out.

At least that was the theory of the previous threads. We don’t really know why Sawyer was in Oz, but it could very well have been because it was far, far away from the trouble he left in the U.S.

One thing that was freaking me out: When Locke was walking with Boone and Boone wanted to tell at least Shannon about the hatch, the Locke knocked out out!

What was freaking me out was that Locke’s behaviour was really reminding me of Ethan’s. I was almost expecting him to put his foot on Boone’s chest and give him the Ethan-threatening-Jack speech.

I’m seriously starting to wonder about whether or not Locke IS that much of a good guy or if he’s getting seduced by the island and will end up seeing things the way Ethan (and any Ethan tribesmen) see things.

Aaaaah. Thank you, thank you.
But right now I’m more than a bit annoyed at the ‘it was only a dream’ aspect. Maybe it would have ‘felt’ better if I’d seen it myself, properly paced and all, instead of strobed out in random bits and then recapped.

:dubious:

This episode also gave us another reason they aren’t actively searching for Claire: Locke said that he went “4 miles” that way. Assuming that the island is at least 8 miles by 8 miles, that is 64 square miles of jungle to be searching. A bit much, when you also have to find food every day.

If the hatch can’t be opened, why is there a viewport in it?

I have a question insipred by the latest post in the Questions thread: why are there no trails left by the TCM? The jungle ought to look like a runaway bulldozer went through it

It can be opened from the inside?

The thing that is beginning to bother me about Locke (and I’ve always thought he’s the - pardon the expression, but there is no other - dopest guy on the island) is that he’s starting to be Shaman/Priest dude when he’s not asked to. At that’s always scary.

I mean, with Charlie, he was *asked *by Charlie for his help. He gave Charlie a “safe word,” so to speak (third time he asked for the drugs, it was over). It was intense, and perhaps Charlie in the moment didn’t want to go through with it, but he wasn’t hit over the head and smeared with psychotropic herbs and tied up.

Maybe it’s my own projections around the negative sides of my own neopagan community, but he really made my blood run cold last night. Helping others when they choose to advance their evolution is one thing. Forcing them to advance their evolution against their will is very, very different.

It’s like the difference between hearing confessions when people come to your church and knocking them out and tying them up before dragging them into your confessional and torturing them, refusing to let them go until they confess.

No one expects the Spanish Inquisition on Lost Island!

Boone said he thought it was made of concrete. I couldn’t see closely enough…were there visible signs that it is a door?
