What happened to Chocolate Chocolate Chip?

I’m a simple man, with simple tastes. My favorite ice cream flavor has always been chocolate chocolate chip. That’s chocolate ice cream with chocolate chips. It’s a pretty standard combination, along with mint chocolate chip, cookie dough, and others.

Today I’m in the freezer section of the supermarket. I see chocolate, vanilla, fudge brownie, banana nut swirl, cherry chocolate crunch, peanut butter pancake batter, mango tooty fruity super flavor explosion, all kinds of kinky exotic flavor combinations I would never have dreamed of. But out of the 5 or 6 different brands of ice cream, there was no chocolate chocolate chip. I managed to find one container of vanilla chocolate chip, which I guess will do for now. I never used to have trouble finding chocolate chocolate chip, what happened?

Like you said, there’s only so much room in the freezer and they have to stock all of the ridiculous B&J flavors like Turtle Soup, Phish Food and Vermonty Python.

C3 is in the unenviable position of being weirder than it is interesting. Slightly monotonous, never a big favorite, and having very little novelty value any more, it’s likely been overshadowed.

I know it would rank low on my favorite list, certainly below vanilla chip, mocha chip, and mint chip.

Not one of my faves, but my wife occasionally partakes and generally does so with Haagen Daz. I’m more of a Mocha Almond Fudge guy myself.

I suspect that you are experiencing the unusual shopping phenomena whereby if you find any particular product that you especially enjoy, your local supermarket will shortly discontinue stocking it.

Did you check out the store brands, too? Kroger and Meijer both have excellent ice cream.
