I don’t remember who that other poster was, or if he/she was banned, or has left, or is still with us.

Well thank goodness for that. He was one of the most subtly creepy posters we’ve had. It was rarely overt, but cumulatively I intuited an undercurrent of WTF in every post.
This is really getting off track … let’s not talk about who was removed and get back to the main focus of this thread, please.
We had a bit of a search (some posters) when Chowder went missing so abruptly and nothing was ever heard. He was approaching 70 so it seems the news was not going to be good.
Any number of the usual suspects remain though. Along with new and interesting members.
Am I dreaming or didn’t The Bad Astronomer post here? I searched for the username and it didn’t find any results. The link is to a TED talk this week that he did.
No you are not dreaming. He used to post here quite a bit, but then he just kinda petered out and stopped. I don’t think there was any drama there. I think he just got bored and started doing other things with his down time.
I do miss him. If an interesting physics thread pops up, maybe somebody should e-mail him on his site. He’ll probably answer.
I know he took a lot of heat, but I miss Sam Stone.

As I recall, he disliked the idea of having to pay to participate in a forum, so when the site went pay-to-post he no longer visited the straight dope.
So soon? He last posted only a couple of months ago.
In Internet Time, that’s like an eon. Is this even the same internet he left? I think not.
Dunno about chowder, but gobear is on Facebook a good bit.
He could just be busy. Plenty of people have come back after absences that were much longer.
I checked the list, too. Hey, we should all be on the list - remember when Marley23 banned all of us? 
Yeah, haven’t seen him about in a while. Too bad…didn’t often agree with him, but enjoyed his posts.
