What happened to some of the more prominent posters?

I have been trying to remember the name of a poster we had in the early days who was easily one of the crabbiest we’ve ever had and it eventually came out that he was suffering from massive depression. He was very well-known, and I believe his handle was one word and started with D… it’s been bugging me for weeks.

I participate on another board that allows unlimited editing/deleting, even of posts made years prior. A very prolific poster on that board had a snit fit about some administrative stuff and deleted every single post he’d ever made before leaving in a huff. It was really, really, really annoying. There are shitloads of threads now that just don’t make any sense because all of his posts are gone.

I fully support not allowing that kind of nonsense on the SDMB. :stuck_out_tongue:

dHandy?

dLibertarian?

dOpalCat?

dManhatten?

dColdfire?

dWally?

I’ve seen that behavior on a couple of boards myself, except the posters in question never left. They just remove their posts after a month or so.

Duke?

I believe it was dNoClueBoy.

Or perhaps dCarnivorousplant.

Naw, it was xtisD

I know; I just tend to regret some of my less-than-stellar-moments.

Thanks; I was just trying to get across that I realize that everything you post on the internet is going to be out there, but that it doesn’t necessarily have to be made easier to access.

Again, I know; I just tend to regret some of my less-than-stellar-moments. I’m not really trying to defeat any purposes or slink away from my (sometimes idiotic) posts, I’m just lamenting (again, idiotically) the fact that a bunch of crap I tossed out there in a fit of pique is still there to torment me; I richly deserve it, but it still sucks; it’s like looking at old pictures where you had a mullet or something. :o

Same thing happened in another board I’m on…and forget stuff not making sense, any thread of significant length, the page jump stopped working properly, and you’d be up to 6 or 7 pages off.

I’m going to steal this, if you don’t mind.

See, I don’t have a problem with editing or deleting at all–because, if anyone responded to you, the quotes should still be there. That’s how the one non-dope related board I use frequently handles it. (But they’re also really, really weird in that threads reach 100s of pages in less than a couple days, and you aren’t expected to read the whole thing.)

There’s at least one way I can think of to try to find that mystery d-whoever:

  1. Pick the forum where he or she was most likely to have posted a lot
  2. Go to that forum’s Main Page and go to the bottom of the first page
  3. There you find:

  1. Set the search criteria for either
    a) number of replies - descending;
    b) last post time - ascending;
    c) some other combination more relevant to your memory;
    — and use From The Beginning as the time frame

  2. When the list comes back, go to the individual thread title(s) that look familiar and click on the Number of Replies figure to bring up “Who Posted?” and survey that list of posters for your mystery person.

  3. Continue that process (maybe in other forums and maybe with different search rules) until you get lucky and locate him or her

  4. You could check profiles on suspicious individuals to see their last activity date, number of posts, etc.

If somebody has a quicker or better way to do this, I’d love to know about it!

**Satan **could be abrasive but I think he added more than he subtracted. I know he was banned. As was Contestant #3, right?

Phil (pldennison) never was at a loss for an opinion. If I recall, he quit b/c the debates were bringing out the worst in him (by his own admission)

I also remember **Oldscratch **as a worthy contributor.

**dhanson **didn’t post much I don’t think but he seemed to have his head screwed on straight and contibuted a lot to certain topics. Wonder what happend to him?

A couple of girl posters I remember being rather active and then nothing were **Falcon **and kellibelli. I don’t miss them but do wonder what happened to make them quit. Oh, and tatertot.

**Goboy **(aka gobear) was a good poster who, as someone already mentioned, quit for whatever reason.

I might think of more–I’ve been around since the board was yellow.

I miss Kn(*)ckers and her interstitial comments, and FireUnderpantsBoobs who became AwSnappity.

I missed Eve, but she came back. :slight_smile:

I miss Cervaise, and Arden Ranger, and Duck, Duck, Goose. I miss chowder, and wonder what happened to the creeping garden gnome invasion. I miss Steve Wright, who took me punting on the Isis once.

And I’m also missing my bedtime. Yikes!

Wow, this post brings back memories. I know what happened to Otto. For a while I wondered what happened to featherlou, but I figured that out. Whatever happened to Homebrew, or CrankyAsOldMan?

CrankyAsAnOldMan is still sorta kinda around. She last posted in August of this year.

I don’t have any personal knowledge of them, but I know that Falcon was quite the Dopefester, and probably met over 100 board members at various fests (and, no, not me). I’m guessing someone probably knows her real name and has some knowledge. I will say this: From various postings, Falcon seemed to have some health issues, both mental and physical (not the least of which of the latter was that she was north of 300 pounds). It would not surprise me at all if she were no longer among the living.

Kellibelli had posted her real name once. I won’t reveal it her, but she does have a facebook account.

Tatertot returned briefly to say that she had made up a story about a pregnancy/miscarriage, then disappeared again.

I miss dutchboy208. That guy was a hoot!

Chalk me up as another formerly (somewhat) prolific poster who fell off the face of the SDMB simply because I was getting my indirect social interaction elsewhere. I’m sort of back now, but I’m not nearly as post-happy as I was way back when.

After deciding to follow my own advice, and using my own criteria for “prolific poster,” I went to some threads I had started and looked up the profiles on names I recognized for the ones who have been a while posting (or “active”).

I have not checked if these names have already been mentioned, but will, and if anybody has any info on them, I’d be interested to know it:
