What happened to some of the more prominent posters?

That one was a joke. That guy’s still around; he’s me.

ETA: Name change, not sock.

Yeah, he was cool.

i miss VCO3. i know he became TLDRWTFLOL or whatever. his over the top rants and general style always cracked me up. i’m probably in the minority on that opinion though.

Animal Crackers to you.

Just to let you know, I’m still around. I check in to the board from time to time to see what’s up. I just got tired of posting here, and I’m not the kind of person to throw a big pity-party and leave in a huff. But since some people may wonder where I am, I decided to answer this post and let you know I’m just fine and still around.

For reasons we don’t have to discuss, I simply don’t enjoy it here much any more, and life is too short to waste time doing things that are a net negative in your life. I may post again at any time if I find my attitude changing. That could happen tomorrow, or never.

In any event, it’s no one’s problem but mine. And I am enjoying the sudden increase in my free time…

I’m sorry - I appreciated your attempts to debate issues fairly and educate many who seem to not understand economics. I totally get why you’re stepping back - you were subjected to the patented Lefty Stomp quite a bit in the past several months. I’ve curtailed my involvement in GD and the Pit for that same reason.

Some of us did appreciate the time you took with your posts, and hopefully you’ll be back sometime.

OTOH, it could be said that the side Sam Stone represents ‘seem to not understand economics’. That’s why it’s a debate.

Sam Stone and I will never agree on politics. But he has made many, many posts in which he presents strong arguments. Though we disagree, he is an asset to the board. We have posters at both extremes of the political spectrum. Sam Stone puts up a much better fight than the extremists on either side.

What does it mean, “Lefty Stomp”?

I love this board.

Hi Mr. plant, your question wasn’t addressed to me, but it concerns something I think about.

To me, the Lefty Stomp is about any minority trying to get along in a place where the majority is (typically) more hostile to slight errors by the minority, than major errors by their own group.

So, in my experience, someone such as Bricker will often have to argue against 20 opponents at once, and at least half the people arguing against him will be making silly, grade-D, points. But the majority team will be completely focused on finding flaws in Bricker’s points, and will let the poor arguments their own team makes pass with no (or very little) comment.

The minority members not only have to debate a horde of opponents at once, but the majority demands a higher standard of behavior from the minority.

I’m fairly left-wing, but there are some majority opinions here that I won’t challenge just because I don’t enjoy arguing against 20 people at once. For one thing it is ungodly time consuming.

That’s how I see “The Stomp”, Lefty and otherwise.

Apologies for the hijack.

Thanks, I thought someone named Baal was trying to convince me that Republicans are a Good Thing.

It’s probably even worse than what Baal Houtham (ably) describes. If somebody makes solid, cogent arguments but has a blind spot for certain issues (or even leaves those issues to be covered by someone else), others can get frustrated and the vitriol can increase. But everybody does this: if nothing else, a comprehensive treatment of any issue would be time consuming and be judged too long to read.

Sam: Good to see you around. Speaking personally, I’ve taken quite a few multiple-month breaks from this board. It’s refreshing. I hope to see you back some time, but taking a breather is often a sound idea, at least for me.

Tuckerfan has wandered away, but posts frequently at the UnaBoard.

I miss Tuck.
:frowning:

How about Redboss? I always did love me some Redboss.

I miss Jodi. She is a 99er, a lawyer, and I really enjoyed her posts. Her last post was 10/7/2009, in a thread about Cesario. Her last activity (I guess that means the last time she logged on) was 2/24/2010.

Seconded - one of the Great Legal Minds of the SDMB.

I miss John Corrado, even though it’s been a while since he left.

Regards,
Shodan

Yeah, me, too. It’s really sad when you lose a fan.

Quiet, you!!

Just who I was coming in to mention, what with Rue DeDay, Sofa King, Duck Duck Goose, Cervaise, Cranky and Kalhoon already spoken for.

I talked with Jodi a bit as she was leaving. Without mentioning anything intended private, I think I can say she felt the same frustration a lot of people probably leave for, that the fight against ignorance just becomes a weary one after awhile.

I miss her too. Jodi was a keeper.

One nice thing, as of late Tranquillis is periodically around again.

Yeah, agree completely. :frowning:
