What is your favorite perfume/cologne?

“Eau de Gates - For the ridiculously rich nerd.”

Heh. I know someone who spent $3,000 dollars in six months on BPAL. It’s good stuff for a lot of people, but I can’t imagine spending that kind of money on perfume. Yikes.

I’ve been looking at BPAL for ages but it’s a bit overwhelming; there are so many damn scents that I get lost looking at all of them. Jurhael, I know you’ve talked about BPAL in your lj*; do you have any recommendations for how to pick things out without feeling you’re missing everything?

Most days, I tend to wear Green Teatherapy from the Healing Garden. Lately, though, we’ve had oodles of rain, and the mosquitoes are apt to carry out small children or pets, and dine in on us bigger critters, so “Fresh Scent Off!” has been my scent of choice. It’s terribly funny when I get compliments on my “perfume,” but the stuff really does smell pretty good, and I itch less!

Nighttime/“dressier” perfumes are usually Givenchy’s “Amerige” or “L’air de Temps” in the spring and summer, and the very occasional spritz of Dior’s “Poison” in cooler months. (And, by spritz, I mean that I spray “Poison” into the air, and then walk through it. I love it, but it’s strong, strong, strong!) Perry Ellis was my signature perfume for about a decade, but the company seems to have dropped it in favor of Perry Ellis 360 several years ago.

I’ll second that. The greatest scent for men ever!

For myself, I like Quartz by Molyneux, not too expensive, and men standing behind me at the bank or grocery store ask what I’m wearing so they can get it for their wife/girl friend. It’s very light, but very sexy.

I wish a perfume exchange system were possible. I always get Chanel #5 as a gift, and it doesn’t suit me at all. At the moment, I put dabs of it on lamps to use as a luxurious room deodorizer.

When I need a change, or am not particularly sexy, CKOne is a good, clean, everyday scent.

MoodIndigo1 - you want to sell me any of that Chanel No. 5?? I’m serious!

I just bought a bottle of this (I already have Blue Label from Givenchy).

Good stuff.

HI! HI!

Well, when I first got into BPAL, I looked at the names that caught my eye the most and read everything about them, including the story behind some of them. Like, I always wanted to try Mata Hari because I liked the name and I was interested in the history behind the woman who had that name. I haven’t gotten it yet though, but I intend to.

My first scent was “Nemesis” because that one stood out the most in my first browsing of the site. It’s still among my favorites now.

When browsing through forum sales/ebay/alchemylab LJ comm, then I just look at which name sticks out the most. I figure if I don’t like the scent, it could always be swapped or sold.

I tend to be most drawn to the Limited Edition ones, but that alone is not enough when choosing a scent.

It’s basically looking at everything. That’s how I do it. Heh.

My perfume of the moment is this old bottle of Chanel Allure. Just the right balance, and it sticks to everything. It also does not make me sneeze, which is a miracle.

I used to have a bottle of Givenchy Ysatis, which while it was too strong for me, it smelled wonderful. But! I managed to knock it over onto the tile in my kitchen, which was the end of that perfume. I think I still have some of the scent in the cracked, chipped bottle…

I like Allure, too, but my favorites are:

Champs Elysees (sorry if I didn’t spell that right, or put in the accent) - wearing that today.

Verino by Roberto Verino - it’s my usual everyday fragrance, because it’s light and inoffensive - reminds me vaguely of the outdoors.

Opium - for when I’m feeling like One Hot Mama.

I looove Hanae Mori – it smells of strawberries and almond and vanilla, and it’s nice and light.

I also have this Palmolive body wash that I got in England – I think the scent is Almond Milk. They don’t sell it here. I absolutely love it, and if I ever win the lottery* I will go to Paris just to go to a parfumerie and ask them to re-create that scent for me.

There was a fascinating article in The New Yorker a few months ago, about how perfume is made. That’s what made me decide that it was time for me to go get a “grown-up” perfume, and that’s how I found Hanae Mori.
