What movie or movies really piss you off?

Not because of being offensive to your religious beliefs or other assorted higher sensibilities, but because

it contained a huge, glaring plot defect that stood out like a booger on the end of a supermodel’s nose.

My vote goes to Stigmata.

OK, yeah, the Church had problems with it based on doctrinal grounds. My own church Deacon felt that a viewer who was not familiar with Catholic teaching might get the wrong idea. But I knew the movie was fiction, and took it for what it was worth.

What really pissed me off was the whole “cleave a piece of wood, and I am there” schtick.

WTF? This big secret thing is a quote from the Gospel of Thomas?
This chick is going through all this pain and suffering to bring to the world this supposedly secret Church-supressed scripture that you can pick up a copy of at freaking Borders?

I think I ruined the movie for my Mom by shrieking at the TV screen through the whole thing.

Gaakkk.

Yes, Stigmata was quite annoying. I think Pearl Harbor really annoys me though, just because…it was so bad, and you can still find plenty of people who say it was wonderful, accurate, entertaining. And you can find plenty who are on the opposite side. Plus, it made a lot of money, although I’m not sure if they made the budget back. Episode I also irritated me, because I just felt a big fakeness pervading throughout, and dollar signs waving at me all over the place, but I guess I can see why some people liked it, free country…

Not Without My Daughter

For too many reasons to list here, but here’s a much-abridged list:

  1. Iranian-American or Iranian actors/actresses were not used when they could have been, when Los Angeles is full of them.

  2. Very inaccurate depiction of life inside Iran.

  3. Sensationalist garbage that supports the stereotype of Middle Eastern men as insane, extremist types who lack any rational thought.

Yes there are some very funny moments in it, but…

  1. The love story is really appaling. While engaged to another man, Andie McD sleeps with hugh grant, then marries the other guy anyway, then sleeps with hugh grant again, then leaves the other guy. This is supposed to be a light-hearted love story???

  2. Andie McD is really a bad actress.

  3. It contains the finale dialog:
    HG: It’s raining?
AMD: Is it? I hadn’t noticed. (because she is supposedly so enraptured to be in HG’s arms again.)

Star Wars - Attack of the Clones

Why did the Tuskan Raiders capture Anakin’s mother and then just keep her in a tent tied up to wither away? Pointless?

Is this some kind of multi-post record?

Ooops. I kept clicking post cos it wouldnt change. I thought there was a flood control on here…

Wow…that movie really did piss you off, huh, Griffin?

I guess the one movie I’ve seen in the past few years that grated on my nerves the worst was * The Haunting*.

It had some fine actors, but I was embarrassed for them because this was the most hard-to-follow, inane flick I’ve ever seen. Nothing made sense. And nothing was haunting at all. I was more terrified during The Lion King, for Chrissakes. If they gave awards for non-scary and boring, this movie would sweep the Academy.

It’s one of the few times I’ve been to a movie and when it was over, I was grateful. It’s also one of the few where I should have demanded my money back. If I go to see a horror flick, by God, I wanna be scared.

I guess that just goes to show how two people can see the same thing in two completely different ways, The Griffin. I saw Shmi tied up and thought, “Wow. I can’t believe Lucas is being so obvious with the rape-slave thing.”

Ah, sorry I get it now. I am naive!

There was a 1997 TV version of Dean Koontz’s Intensity starring John C. McGinley as the serial killer. There were at least two moments in the movie when a character had a gun pointed at McGinley and for some reason suffered a bout of paralysis while I was screaming “shoot him shoot him SHOOT HIM!” at the TV. Naturally, the killer never got shot (well, maybe he did at the end; I’d lost patience long before then) but there was absolutely no fucking excuse for dragging the movie out by having characters turn into total morons at moments of crisis.

Alien I’ve posted my antipathy many times o nthis board. The crew of the Nostromo were such utter morons that they deserved to die. The Three Stooges could have managed better. The worst part was when Tom Skerrit is in the tunnel with the alien. The idiot of a woman tracking the alien tells him its coming, but doesn’t think it’s important to tell him from what direction – and he doesn’t think it’s important to ask. It’s hard to care about such total nitwits.

Gattaca. The movie isn’t annoying enough to hate, but it’s very annoying that people think this poorly thought out piece of garbage is a thoughtful film. There was no thought at all put into it, making it a movie that makes you think – as long as you don’t think about it.

Arlington Road. Way too many co-incidences and slow pick-up by the good guy.

Revenge of the Nerds

In the real world, if you dress in a costume and have sex with a woman who is under the impression that you’re her boyfriend, and she finds out, expect to be at least slapped, if not arrested. Under no circumstances will she fall in love with you due to your sexual prowess. Not only is it inaccurate, but very profoundly icky as well.
