I always thought it was unfortunate that the original Law & Order just ended without being able to wrap up everything. A show that aired as long as it did and led to so many spin-offs deserved a better ending. (For one thing, during the last few episodes Lieutenant Van Buren was dealing with a cancer diagnosis and as I remember in the last episode, she picked up the phone to hear the prognosis.)
And I loved Rome. I think they knew they were ending abruptly so they kind of rushed things at the end but I think they were planning something more with one of the Jewish slaves.
Another show, not mentioned above, is the NBC series Kings, starring Ian McShane. It was set in a sort of alternate history version of the US, and was a sort-of retelling of the Biblical story of King David.
I’m on antenna, so no Trek broadcast at all here. A local ind station used to show TNG and TOS back to back (in order!) Sundays starting at 11:00pm, but not currently.
I have netflix…
JQ was the BESTest cartoon ever when I was a kid. One of the eps had a Forbidden Planet type of monster. I liked the characters a lot.
And the Voyagers show I listed is not the Trek show. I’m talking about the late great Jon Hexum show. Early 80s vintage, iirc
With internet and Netflix, I don’t miss too much. Losing USA-Network and ESPN was the biggest hurt.
ION/TV shows a lot of USA Network stuff within months of airing, so it’s not hugely annoying. FOr instance, I finally got to see Psych! The Musical last night.
No MeTV in your area? I don’t know where you are, but it’s an over-the-air network which runs Star Trek:TOS on Saturday nights. There about 180 affiliates, so it reaches even the smallest television markets.
I had forgotten about MeTV! [Ruk] THAT was the equation! [/Ruk] It’s piggy backed on a local news channel here. So, I have to look for 4.2 or 4.3. I’ll program it in as soon as I get off here.
Thanks!
Also, I finally found a good TV guide for my area’s digital broadcasts. Titan-TV. Even has an app for my smart phone.
ETA: after rescanning, MeTV is listed in my channels. I have 38 channels. 4 are Spanish, about 8 or 9 are religious or shopping. So… maybe 25 watchable stations. Still, I see some good stuff. Even have a couple of movie channels. One is piggy backed on a religious channel (52.3 instead of 52) and it edits R rated movies. Sometimes, just by cutting the sound when they say 4 letter words and shit.
I guess I’m spoiled. I can pick up three retro networks, MeTV, Antenna TV, and COZI TV. Antenna TV has WKRP on Sunday nights. It has most of the original music, too, although some of the episodes have substituted music. I get to watch all sorts of shows: Magnum, PI, Run For Your Life, I Spy, Mr. Ed, Rawhide, Wagon Train. It’s so I hardly watch any first-run TV anymore.
Oddly, I was channel surfing last night and noticed that I have a bunch of “retro” stations, too. I honestly can say I have never checked out all 1,000 or so channels my cable service provides. Lots more SD stuff than HD, though, and I generally won’t watch something if it’s not HD.
Also pulled for $ bailout, and which left the weirdest unplanned for cliffhanger, was Thirtysomething, a good show and I believe pathbreaking. (Reasons on request. :))
