Was that the one with the electrical monster that got lured by the string of lightbulbs? If so I remember watching it as a child and actually being quite scared. Seems to me the music resembled that of the FB monsters from the id soundtrack.
Yep!
Taking the OP’s question at face value, I miss BSG and Breaking Bad the most. Lots of good experiences while watching those shows, and nothing has quite replaced them. That said, they ended at the right times and I wouldn’t extend either. I also miss David Tennant-era Doctor Who. Obviously the show kept going (and I actually liked Matt Smith more than Tennant), but there was a real comic-book-ish dumb fun to those Tennant years I miss.
If the question is “what TV shows would you want to have not stopped,” it would either be Caprica or Firefly. Both cancelled way too quickly.
Pushing Daisies. So amazing, so unfair
Another one I liked was Brimstone. Interesting premise, decent actors, and Teri Polo.
We have Netflix on ROKU and get ST:TOS, ST:TNG, ST:Voyager, ST:DS9, Enterprise, STmovies 1, 4, 5, and First Contact. I think some of the movies are rotated out of play occasionally. Mrs. Burpo is the video nut, but I think we have the bottom tier Netflix; I’m not sure how ROKU differs from other devices. I think Hulu also has :TOS.
Can you believe JQ was only 26 episodes; my favorite was the mummy–as silly as the premise was, I was on the edge of my seat, ditto the sea monster.
Something fun–go to IMdB, look up JQ, read the individual epi descriptions and yell out, “Shit, I remember that one!”
Kenm and Qadgop: do you remember “Mr. Terrific”? Captain Nice made me remember that one, thank you very much. smiley
My favorite was the one with “The Baron” and the WWI fighters.
I remember Mr Terrific: “A scientist both brave and bold set out to cure the common cold…”
Man, I forgot the reason I came in here:
The Wild, Wild West – The show suffered a bit while Ross Martin was waylaid with (I believe) cancer, but I miss it with a white hot fever. That movie made me want to gouge out my eyes.
Everybody sing: Who is that nut who flies around in his jammies? That’s no nut, boy, that’s Cap-tain Nice. Nice, Nice, Nice, Nice, NICE!
My answers have all been mentioned already; MST3K, Wonderfalls, Carnivale, Kings and the 4400.
I missed the edit window–
It took me a minute to figure where the Big Grin smilie came from in the middle of my 2-ago post: the colon and capital “D” in Deep Space Nine generated a smilie; COOOOLL! I think there are the makings for a new thread in the Game Room forum. See you there!
I love both of these, but I think they had their time, and I’m glad they knew when to quit. I would hate to see Daria pulling a Simpsons and going on forever - and she and Jane would surely hate being in high school forever.
In the case of the DCAU, it’s too bad they haven’t done as well since.
Felt the same way – such a great premise, but the actual show was oh so mediocre. Never even finished watching the 2nd season. I’m currently working my way through Touch, which has a marginally similar premise and I’ve been told it’s equally disappointing, but so far I’m liking it much, much more than Alphas (probably because I can relate to the main character – except I’ve always been able to talk.)
Other shows I actually miss: The Riches (killed by writer’s strike), Freaks & Geeks, and the aforementioned Dead Like Me, Adv. of Brisco County Jr., and The Sopranos (although the latter had clearly peaked and was fading fast.) I’ve also been watching my DVDs of the 70’s show Emergency! and wondering how funny it would be if still on the air, in it’s 43rd season.
It was a heart attack; another one did him in in 1981. What a shame! He was an outstanding actor and WWW was a great show.
According to Wiki, he broke a leg in 1968 as well. Ow!
You know another show I miss? Wide World of Sports.
Are you watching “Major Crimes”? The stuff with Rusty gets the show bogged down sometimes, but overall it is “The Closer” minus Brenda’s parents. (a big improvement). I also think the writing and energy has improved. The last couple of seasons of “The Closer” started to feel slow or mostly about Brenda with the cases being perfunctory.
As for what shows I miss, several already mentioned from this thread:
Buffy (it ended when it should have, but I still miss it)
Firefly
Better Off Ted
Wonderfalls
Pushing Daisies
Farscape
Todd and The Book of Pure Evil. Fun show from Canada that I really had a blast watching.
The long story arc was just getting defined when it was cancelled. Shame.
SCTV. I realize it was 30 years ago, and they all had things to move on to when it stopped, but I loved that show.
Human Target. The show had potential, despite the weak writing.
I got hooked on the International Mysteries series on MHz, but they stopped showing it in my area (in favor of 24-hour French news. What the hell is up with that?)
My guilty pleasure that I’ve mentioned before is Montalbano.
The one I really feel nostalgic for is the version of Maigret mysteries with Bruno Cremer. I think he was nearly perfect for the part, and the settings in post-WWII Europe, mostly “Paris” but also other places, were also nearly perfect. I know Cremer died and the series has finished, but there were lots of episodes I never saw, and I would like to very much. I’m just too cheap to buy the DVDs ($6 per episode).
To me, this is what defines the difference between British and American television. The Human Target wanted to be a flashy actioner on a low budget, when it could totally have worked with less action/sfx and stronger writing for its interesting characters. Most of what’s on the CWtv would actually work as solid entertainment if someone cared about the writing.
