Got some beef stew on the stove right now. Need to pull some bread out to go with.
Vietnamese caramel shrimp, stir fried broccoli and mushrooms, rice, and fresh spring rolls.
Cerdo guisado en adobo tacos from Maskaras, a great restaurant down the street from us. Mmmmmmm.
Our favorite Chinese place is leaving, she’s retiring after 40 some years. So we got take out, wor won ton soup, shrimp lo mein, san shien, dumplings, egg roll, yup, lots in the fridge for lunches.
Tomorrow is Chinese New Year.
That took me right back to 1984!
Tonight was meatball sandwiches (Anthony Bourdain’s recipe), snap peas and a salad. I also made some sauerkraut for tomorrow’s dinner and my husband had a bit of that as well.
In the mood for something different, I made a pizza with red sauce and mozzarella cheese with diced and seasoned eggplant as my topping. Will make again.
Pat Hazy IPA to drink. (A local microbrewery brews this amazing IPA named for Patrick Swazey)
Tonight’s going to be home made fried chicken, biscuits and cider coleslaw. We put the chicken in the buttermilk and spices last night.
Bratwurst, spaetzle, sauerkraut and apple sauce are on deck for tonight. I’ll probably have asparagus because I don’t care for sauerkraut much.
Brussel sprouts with arugula, crumbled pork belly, balsamic glaze, and candied almonds.
Looking forward to a great pizza tonight. Freshly made at the same grocery that makes those superb sandwiches and subs that I love. Thin crust but with a raised outer crust, generously loaded with pepperoni, mushrooms, green pepper, red onion, and lots and lots of mozzarella.
After trial and error I figured out how to bake them so they’re almost as good as a really good pizzeria pizza, and much better than a mediocre pizzeria pizza. I drizzle some pizza sauce around the outer crust. Then I preheat a hot oven and place the pizza, with parchment paper, on a pizza stone on an upper oven rack. When nearly done, I switch the oven to high broil for just a few minutes. This perfectly browns the cheese and bubbles the toppings without overdoing the underside of the crust.
Last night was Surf&Turf! My gf seared scallops and topped them with a white wine and garlic reduction. Meanwhile, I made filet mignon, rare, sous vide and torch char. Served with roasted butternut squash
Cabernet Sauvignon to drink.
We split a Pączki for dessert later in the evening.
Last night was a simple meal of chunks of smoked sausage, bell peppers (orange and yellow,) onions, and red potatoes, all drizzled with olive oil and baked at 450° for 30 minutes. The sausage was crispy around the edges and the potatoes were brown on the outside and creamy on the inside. Mmm. There were no leftovers.
I’m getting to be really fond of my closest neighbourhood grocery store, the one that makes such excellent sandwiches, subs, and pizzas. And it’s not that I have low standards – before these guys arrived on the scene, I once picked up some sandwiches from a different, older, grocery, and they were horrible. The latter is more typical, which is why I love these guys who rise above and beyond.
So I did a whole bunch of grocery shopping today in anticipation of a coming winter storm (large amounts of snow predicted due to the arrival of a “Texas low” – thanks, Texas!). Have lots of snackables on hand, so dinner tonight will be a tuna salad sandwich and Thai noodle & chicken salad. Tomorrow, one of those marvelous subs with lentil and smoked bacon soup.
Hehehee, I had never heard that term before. From what I can gather, we’re sending the moisture. Figures, it’s been raining here since 4AM or so.
I have no idea what’s for dinner tonight. Go look in the refrigerator.
French toast, sausage and watermelon tonight, with a little ice cream later on for dessert.
BIG Salads. I cleaned out the fridge, using up all the stuff that was salad-able. Then I grilled steak burgers to top the salads.
A bottle of Prosecco, cause it’s my gf’s birthday.
This dude decadents. Sounds marvelous.
Popcorn shrimp and homemade coleslaw. I’ve tasked myself with eating down the freezer, so I’ve been having a lot of shrimp lately.
And after dinner some fine chocolates. Almost forgot I’d purchased and hid them last week. From a real live chocolatier shop.
