I was looking forward to leftover Shrimp Étouffée, but my gf felt like cooking, so we had stuffed eggplant, which was very good. Caucasians to drink, for some reason.

Leftover Shrimp Étouffée for my lunch!!
Saturday night we went out which is a huge big deal! We never go out. We went to a place called Liberty Kitchen.
We had a starter of deviled eggs topped with lobster and TRUFFLES! I’ve always wanted to try real shaved truffles, not just truffle oil or little bits in mac-n-cheese or whatnot. AMAZING!
The main course for my husband was an 8 oz filet, cheesy mashed potatoes, and some fried oysters. Perfectly cooked.
I had a broiled seafood platter with scallops, shrimp, an oyster cooked with a sauce on the halfshell, market fish (I forgot to ask what it was) and broccolini and mashed potatoes. Whew! It was wonderful. Especially the scallops. I haven’t had scallops in forever, and these were perfectly seared and succulent.
Then we left, only to find that the car wouldn’t start. Turns out we needed a new battery, but we first took an Uber home, grabbed some keyfob batteries, drove back to the car and that didn’t work. Oh, well. We got a new battery yesterday.
A sandwich on French bread with eggplant, artichoke hearts, garlic, tomatoes, and goat cheese with homemade Italian dressing.
Tonight I’m going to make my famed homemade hamburgers. You have to just keep it nice and simple. Some fresh ground beef, mix up a pound of it with an egg, some Worcestire (how the hell do you spell that) sauce, a shot of soy sauce, little bit of pepper, maybe some very carefully diced onions if I’m feeling enterprising, you’re good to go. Fresh buns, fresh sliced tomatoes, you just can’t go wrong.
Wooster
If you want it fully, I just break it down to Wor + cester + shire, like Glou + cester and Lei + cester. Helps if you know those, of course.
A Sloppy Joe and macaroni salad. Washed down with a La Croix Key Lime fizzy water.
Salmon with honey/chili/mustard sauce, spinach souffle, salad, and green tomato bread.
A roast in the crockpot all day, with yams added halfway through.
Spicy peanut bake chicken bites, green beans, focaccia and some really good apple slices.
Dinner tonight was a simple and lovely soup-and-sandwich affair. Sandwich was a thickly loaded smoked turkey sub with lettuce, tomato, and mayo. Soup was lentil and smoked bacon with cognac and garnished with finely chopped scallions.
I’ve had the soup before and it was delicious as usual, but TBH the cognac didn’t seem to really enhance it the way I thought it would. I’m interested in trying it again using dry sherry, like maybe Dry Sack, which might be a better flavour match. No loss – any cognac not used in cooking will not last long in this house!
Feta Spinach Salmon Burgers cooked on the grill. Served with coleslaw.
Soup and sandwich here too - chicken salad for the sandwich and kale/bean/turkey soup.
Newman’s own Sicilian Recipe frozen pizza. It was palatable nourishment.
We are leaving Saturday for a St Martin vacation, so gf took Kizzy for agility work and I had dinner alone.
So…. Spam Musubi it was! Between the spam and the soy sauce I had a month’s worth of salt in one sitting.
Vodka lemon drops to drink.
We’re having a chili cook-off tomorrow at work, so naturally I made that tonight (it’ll crock-pot overnight, but it’s basically done now). I make it hotter than the typical American, but from what I’ve heard, a decent number of my co-workers have tastes similar to mine, so it should work out.
And I’m quite aware that there are chili “purists” who wouldn’t consider my dish “real chili” (it contains beans, and more pig than cow), but it’s my considered opinion that most “chili purists” don’t know what they’re talking about.
I made some spaetzle for one of my daughters, and a seafood (clam and surimi) and-corn chowder on request for the other one (and rest of the family.) Everybody was happy. Sometimes I feel like everyone’s personal chef here.
Heading to St Martin tomorrow, so my gf took Simmi for a two hour obedience session, since he’ll be absent next week.
Made myself waffles. With vodka. Gotta pack eventually
Heh, last night a friend of mine brought me some of his wife’s chili and I decided to try some of it for dinner tonight. Her chili is normally pretty good, but I found this batch not so great. Plus, it has kidney beans in it. Meh. I’ll have to be pretty hungry to finish the portion he gifted me.
First dinner in St Martin this year we visited The Palms, a small Caribbean style restaurant run by two friends, Gregg (a Trinidadian) and his wife Jo (a Canadian). They are cool people and intense foodies.
Jo made us Passion Fruit Caipirinhas, of which we enjoyed several. Then Accras (fish fritters) for an appetizer.
For my main course, Gregg recommended his Goat Curry. In the Caribbean goat can be hit or miss. It can be old, stringy goat or it can be exquisite. This was exquisite. He asked how spicy I wanted it. I asked for spicy enough to make me sweat a bit, yet not be painful. He nailed it. Very well balanced heat.
After dinner we had snifters of Sambuca Black.
It was my favorite way of enjoying dinner. Reservations were for 8 pm. We arrived a bit early to allow time for hugs and cheek kisses. We left at 11, yet we never had a second where we were bored.
