Two fried drumsticks with buttered dumplings.
Tonight will be steak, garlic bread, and, umm - lessee, what’s in the veg drawer? Lots of lettuce. So maybe salad with olives and canned artichoke hearts.
Half of a ribeye, topped with a leeeetle pat of butter just to gild the lily, with red’n’gold baby potatoes cooked with onion and garlic.
Coupla pieces of tuna/salmon sushi to start, with a shake of toasted sesame seeds on top once I got home.
… with some egg salad and chopped green onion on a roll, for “dessert.”
Man, I may bust into the ice cream for an actual dessert. That, or a cup of tapioca pudding. I have not yet decided.
The other night I made shishkabob. Marinated turkey kabobs from the turkey store, skewered with wedges of onion, bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, pineapple chunks, jalapeño peppers.
Last night was a turkey ham-loaf baked in a bain-marie setup. Served with cubed, roasted, butternut squash.
Haven’t had fish & chips in a while, so that’s on the menu for tonight. Tempura-battered haddock and oven fries, sprinkled with malt vinegar and a few dollops of tartar sauce. Since there are no vegetables, several rounds of Caesars will be made, providing a balanced diet of tomato and clamato juices and alcohol, and adding an appropriate seafood motif to the proceedings!
Heh, I’ve done that with breakfasts, where the drink is a healthy addition to the meal. #daydrinking
We’ve been eating lots of turkey lately. Last night I made barbecue shredded turkey roll-ups in egg white wrappers (a low carb thing). Served with a side of roasted radishes and vinegar coleslaw.
Three slices of leftover pepperoni pizza with hot-pepper sprinkles, spaghetti sauce for dipping the crusts, and a glass of ice water.
Motor City brand three meat frozen pizza, with a few Axis IPAs. A nice beginning to the eve of the weekend.
Ceviche featuring tuna and mango. Vodka/rocks to drink.
My little brother called them “hot flakes”’ when he was a kid. Stuck with our fam.
Ah!
Chicken tacos tonight, with shredded lettuce, tomato sauce, hot sauce and grated cheese, and an ice water. Later, some Girl Scout shortbread cookies and a glass of milk.
Fish and chips again. The frozen tempura haddock is OK – not bad, just OK. Next time, I’m going to be less lazy and go the extra mile to make the crispy potato flake pickerel recipe first suggested here by @swampspruce. Much, much better than any frozen breaded fish when made with good fresh pickerel or haddock. In reference to my previous comment about hot curry powder, I got the mild stuff and have since used it, and the results are perfect!
Taco pie and cucumber salad tonight.
Last night we had a Curry Fish Stew that was very tasty. We used catfish fillets.
On Saturday we skipped dinner because we ate so much for lunch. We participated in a Restaurant Ramble in New Kensington. For $35 each we got a wrist band and a map. Ten restaurants participated. It was a walking tour style event. The first four restaurants gave you appetizers. The next three gave entrees. The last three desserts. A fun way to sample local restaurants!
Lamb Eggplant curry with basmati rice and garlic naan. It was excellent, and I have enough leftover for a couple of lunches.
Last night I made chicken enchiladas. Trader Joe’s ench sauce is pretty darn tasty.
If you can get good catfish, it’s the bomb.
Tonight we had Spanokpita Potatoes (which were great) and cocktail shrimp with a couple clementines as our side. Torrontes to drink.
My husband also bought this Ommegang limited edition beer; we split one as a dessert. This is the most complex beer I think I’ve ever had. Hops I’ve never had before and all kinds of subtle things going on with the peach, mango and orange.
Balls o’ Meat, aka Meatballs. A mixture of hot sausage and lean ground beef with Greek yogurt, egg, and oat bran added. The meatballs were baked, then served in a marinara sauce with freshly grated Parmesan cheese. Cabernet Sauvignon to drink.
