Maple bacon waffles, maple syrup, a side of bacon, and coffee. Yum.
Chicken salad sandwich with jalapeño-plum jam and cabbage on grilled beer bread, with san marzano creamy tomato soup. And an IPA.
Chicken Piccata served with steamed carrots and fennel.
Turkey sandwich on whole wheat with lettuce and Miracle Whip, a kosher dill pickle, BBQ Fritos and a glass of ice water. Later, some Red Velvet Oreos and a glass of milk.
We’re leaving for Greece in a few days so tonight was spanakopita twice-baked potatoes, cucumber slices and carrots with a very nice Greek white wine - Kotrotsos Moschofilero.
Picked up food at one of the ubiquitous “Betos” in town. I think this was Juliobertos. Carne asada bowl. Now leftovers!
My gf made her almost famous tortilla soup while I grilled a chicken breast. I then shredded the chicken and she added it to her soup. Served the soup with Greek yogurt.
Jif crunchy peanut butter on whole wheat with Smuckers raspberry jam. Then a few slices of sharp cheddar cheese and some Ruffles cheddar and sour cream potato chips, and a glass of ice water. For afters, some Vermont Country Store raspberry candies.
Dinner last night was the absolute wurst! A brewery near us is celebrating Oktoberfest with a wurst plate; three different wursts, mashed potatoes, sauerkraut, and mustard. They also had various Old Fashions to drink.
ETA: why does Oktoberfest start in September?
I kind of assumed it was celebrating “October is coming soon” rather than “It literally is October”.
Jerk pork chops and Wolfpup’s vegetable rice with porcini mushrooms, and coleslaw in yogurt dressing.
The only downside is that my faithful Weber grill, now about 20 years old, maybe more, has collapsed one side of its grease-collection basket due to corrosion. No problem, I’ll drill a couple of holes in the flange and support it with wire, because everything else on this faithful baby continues to work great! But not tonight. So the culinary downside is I don’t get to augment the jerk goodness with the smokiness of outdoor grilling.
The upside is that Google informs me that oven-baked pork chops are easy and delicious (I posted a recipe from Kristine’s Kitchen earlier in this thread), even easier if they are pre-seasoned jerk chops. Plus the fact that the house now has the sweet aroma of jerk marinade!
Have to get that old Weber ready to grill again, though. There’s months left before real winter sets in!
Do you use the tenderloin, or … ?
We buy the teriyaki turkey kabobs from a local turkey farm store. They are breast cuts.
I mentioned cioppino in the thread about local specialties recently, and that inspired me to try making it myself. I’ve had it in restaurants, but I’ve never attempted making it myself. Wish me luck! It doesn’t seem too tricky, just seafood in a tomato and wine broth.
In 1832, the date was moved some weeks later, as a Greek delegation came. It inspired them for the Zappas Olympics, which became in 1896 the modern Olympic Games.[citation needed] Later,[when?] the Oktoberfest was lengthened and the date pushed forward because days are longer and warmer at the end of September.

Cool! Off to VooDoo Brewery in New Kensington, where they have an Oktoberfest menu tonight. And beer.
I declare my first ever attempt at making cioppino to be mostly a success, although I did cook the fish a bit too long so it fell apart in the soup.
That’s a sourdough baguette and a California sauvignon blanc to make it the most San Francisco meal possible.
It looks scrumptious!
lovely!
That does look wonderful! Unbeknownst to me until I looked it up, cioppino does indeed have a strong San Francisco connection, apparently developed in that area as a regional Italian-American dish. To me it seems like it might be even better than bouillabaisse.
