What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

Chicken marsala over angel hair pasta, with roasted Brussels sprouts, and a moderately priced California sauvignon blanc.

We have my MIL here for dinner and the weekend, so dinner was something special .

Started with a romaine, apple, Gorgonzola, walnut salad. Then cheese tortellini and sausage in a white sauce served with fresh bread that was incredible. Cherry pie for dessert. A hideous sweet wine (my MIL’s favorite) to drink. The wine was textbook awful, yet we three made two bottles disappear.

We’ve been low carbing lately, so the bread was heavenly. There was over half a loaf left that was going to be eaten for breakfast, but Kizzy got to it first. :frowning:

Last night was a big-ass salad with all kinds of stuff in it - butter lettuce, cucumbers, herbed feta cheese, tomato, sunflower seeds, sliced hard boiled egg, green onion, green and black olives, a few cut-up slices of deli turkey meat, and hot soppressata. Garlic bread on the side.

It’s the first day of Oktoberfest in Munich!

So I am making:
Roulade: German beef rolls stuffed with mustard, bacon, onions, and pickles.
Rotkohl: A classic German dish of red cabbage braised with apples and spices.
Mashed potatoes: I’m sure there’s a German word for them, but I don’t feel like looking it up.

ETA: I’ve also got some German Oktoberfest style beer in the fridge.

Roast beast sandwich on toasted sourdough with horseradish and cranberry mustard - my latest go-to meal when I’m too lazy to cook. And an IPA.

Caesar salad with grilled chicken, some BBQ Fritos and a glass of ice water. Later, some Vermont Country Store fudge and a glass of milk.

Vietnamese fresh spring rolls, lemongrass pork chops, salad and rice. Lots of nuoc cham for dipping.

What’s with the sad face? Kizzy totally deserved it! How many ribbons has she won, again? :dog:

Hah! Good point. In fact yesterday my gf and Kizzy did a 5k Dog Derby, a race with obstacles (straw bales piled up, tractor tires, a sewer pipe, a water hazard, etc.

They did it last year and had a respectable showing. This year they ran heats by age. Kizzy and my gf won their age group easily, and using the stopwatch on my phone I think they had the best time overall (it’s a fun-run, so no official time).

A small Caesar salad, fresh bread with olive oil and pesto, lasagna Bolognese, an Idealist cocktail and a glass of ice water. Later, some homemade gingerbread and a glass of milk.

Chicken pad thai, preceeded by wonton-egg drop soup doctored up with green onions, “good” soy sauce, some spicy oil from whichever jar of chili crisp is in front of me, and one helluva copious dollop of sesame oil.

Will likely augment the pad thai with much of the same.

A grilled chicken, cheese and poblano sausage on a bolillo roll.

Leftover Vietnamese fresh spring rolls and lemongrass pork chops. Deciding between an IPA or a glass of prosecco for dessert.

Teriyaki Marinated Turkey Kebabs from the grill. I used onions, cherry tomatoes, pineapple. Served with sliced tomatoes with basil, grated cheese, balsamic vinegar. Vodka and lemon juice to drink.

A slice of ham with Grey Poupon mustard, mashed potatoes with BBQ sauce, a slice of garlic toast and a glass of ice water. For afters, a few pieces of candied pineapple.

Turkey sub with lettuce, mayo, and slices of vine tomato, and a martini. Followed by Ascolana-style fried breaded olives stuffed with a variety of interesting cheeses. Garlic pizza sauce for dipping, and another martini.

@kayaker, that looks fantastic!

I make teriyaki turkey kabobs a couple times every month. Living near a turkey farm is great!

Last night my gf accepted a challenge I’d made earlier. I had brought home a beautiful eggplant from the farm market and I’d challenged her to do something other than stuff it (she makes stuffed eggplant pretty often).

So, she ended up making a Lamb & Eggplant Tagine. It was delicious accompanied by a small salad. Pinot Grigio to drink. We shared a baked apple for dessert.

ETA: our house still smells yummy the next morning

A breakfast-for-dinner recipe from WaPo - Soft-Boiled Eggs on Anchovy Toasts. Toasted country bread, buttered, with anchovies and soft-boiled egg (I’ll be doing poached) and crushed red pepper flakes.

Found another gorgeous eggplant, so last night I duplicated my gf’s tagine, but I used ground Turkey in place of the lamb. Served over couscous. Baked apples for dessert.

Last night I made a Thai style basil chicken stir fry. And a glass of Riesling, which pairs quite well with spicy Asian dishes.

Tonight I’ll make a boneless ribeye, green beans, and probably a baked potato.
