What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

Tonight, wonderful weather for Houston , I am off to make a beef stew outside and watch some sports whilst it cooks .
Likely Malbec to cook and sip on, but still a little slow from last night.

Please tell us the name! I wanna know what THREE YEAR’S RENT would buy me.

(Was it “Penguin McPenguinface”?)

Alas the name wasn’t announced , and the Humbolt penguins wont arrive until 2022 when the zoo opens its Galapagos island exhibit.
I guess it’s a way for stupidly rich people to donate money and show off at the same time.

Frozen chicken pot pies.

To be followed with whatever Halloween candy we aren’t able to unload on the kids tonight.

Last night’s dinner was pretty good, though. We had pork roast about a week ago, and the drippings and leftovers went into the dutch oven with some fresh potatoes. It was a good night for stew. We even had some fancy-schmancy crackers to go with it.

Shrimp and grits tonight, but instead of andouille I used a couple of shrimp sausages, and I threw in a handful of snap peas that needed to be used up. Came out pretty good, and there’s plenty left for a meal later on this week.

My usual Halloween dinner - take out pepperoni and sausage pizza from a small pizzeria. Not as good as it used to be.
Two mini Almond Joys for dessert.

That chowdah sure does look good.

Last night: cheese puffs, appetizer wontons, tomato soup with croutons, and a glass of ice water. Later, half a gourmet chocolate bar with a glass of cold milk.

Meat is figuring less and less in my diet these days, especially beef, but I need to use up the last of a very thick half of rib eye that I froze a long time ago. So may as well do it right. I took it out of the freezer two days ago and it’s now thawed. I plan to heat the barbecue to high, sprinkle the steak with Barberian’s steak spice, and when it’s nearly done (medium-rare this time, dammit!) put mushrooms on the grill and throw some garlic butter on the steak. Served with the leftover vegetable mushroom rice that I made before to have with souvlaki, grilled cremini mushrooms, plus some broccoli and onions with garlic butter. And a few dozen glasses of cabernet sauvignon or whatever is handy.

A slice and a half of ham with maple-spiced mustard, mac and cheese with a good sprinkling of Bacon Salt, and a glass of ice water. For afters, maple walnut fudge and a glass of cold milk.

Last night burgers
Tonight a thai chicken curry

Nachos!

Last night’s steak dinner was awesome! Like a taste of summer in the middle of a crisp fall! I’m glad I went the extra mile to pick out some exceptionally big cremini mushrooms and marinate them for grilling (a few generous dollops of Japanese salad dressing plus a bit of Teriyaki sauce). And the big flame-up at the end when you add garlic butter to the steak adds both taste and seared texture!

Must … resist … temptation … to become a carnivore again! Red meat bad for you! Red meat bad for environment! Bad! Bad!

Tonight will be vegetarian spaghettini with semplice sauce and a bucket of cremini button mushrooms sauteed in garlic butter. Button mushrooms are perfect for sauteeing whole and, done in garlic butter, make a very tasty accent to spaghetti.

One might notice that mushrooms seem to figure prominently in many of my meals. I know there are Dopers who hate mushrooms and are not afraid to say so, right here in CS. All I can say is, great, more for me!

Discourse refuses to allow me to post what I wanted to post in reply.

YES!!!.

Chicken ‘pot roast’ and vegetables tonight, with homemade biscuits and fresh strawberries. Might be the last strawberries we see for awhile.

I received a cookbook written by the Pioneer Woman on my birthday. Last night I made one of her recipes, and it was delicious! Made of mostly pantry pulls - chicken stock, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, bagged broccoli slaw, and frozen Chinese pork dumplings. So good!

A small Caesar salad, then Thai peanut chicken and shrimp over brown rice, a dinner roll and a glass of ice water. Later, a piece of strawberry cheesecake with graham-cracker crust and a glass of cold milk.

I made a huge pot of chicken tortilla soup last night, also from The Pioneer Woman web recipe. I also had the same for lunch and am now smeering marmite from a 1lb tub onto tortilla chips for dessert.

I haven’t had peanut chicken in ages, I think I’ll add that to this week’s meal plan.

Tonight is Scallops Florentine with snap peas and focaccia.

First Dinner was chicken soup with faintly-stale crusty bread for croutons soaked in. Yum.

Second Dinner is about to be mini pierogi (frozen/boxed, don’t judge!) with bacon and sauteed onions. Kitchen smells yum.

I had a big fat burger. I just remembered, too late, the blue cheese I could have topped it with. Maybe tomorrow…
