Anyone got a zippy title for 2022?
Last night I cubed, boiled, then mashed some potatoes and a turnip. Meanwhile my gf roasted a roast. Meat&Potatoes!
Fried rice. I’ve recently been trying a new twist: mix beaten egg into cold parboiled rice, let it sit while the other ingredients are in the pan and add it at the end. This will be the fifth or sixth time I’ve made it that way, and I think it’s a winner.
Tonight is bodega sandwiches, British beans and hothouse strawberries.
Air fryer teriyaki chicken skewers and some broccoli.
Juicy burgers made in a cast iron skillet, topped with American cheese, lettuce, red onion, and dun Dun DUN - a big yellow heirloom tomato slice.
The juice was running down my arm. So good.
In January? Did you get anything else in trade for your soul?
It was $5.49 a pound - i assume they are hothouse grown. So damn good! I do live in south Texas, we still haven’t started winter except for one little cold snap. Yesterday was 77° F.
Still common here in pricier CA grocery stores. Grown in Mexico . Not summer at the farmer’s market quality, but still better than the average hothouse tomato.
Sometimes the simplest things hit the taste spot just right! Last night I was scrounging around the holiday leftovers, and settled on one potato left over from the roast beef binge, leftover baked ham, and a can of Bush’s Homestyle beans.
The beans were cooked in my usual way with sauteed onions and hickory-smoke barbecue sauce. The potato was baked in the oven, with thinly sliced bits of ham added in the last fifteen minutes.
The potato was crisp and tender, the ham slices lightly singed, the beans just oozing umami. What a wonderful, tasty treat, comprised entirely of leftovers!
Tonight: the other potato half, and a repeat performance!
Tuesday was Crispy fried Brussels sprouts with crumbled pork belly, balsamic glaze and candied almonds, and jerk chicken sandwich with potato chips. Last night was the leftovers. Tonight will probably be a burger.
Not yet…
I watched a YouTube video of a chef preparing Steak Diane. I’d heard of it, but I don’t think I ever had it. Wow, was it good.
Takeout from one of our favorite local restaurants: grilled cheese and bacon on a pita, french fries, a pickle and a glass of ice water. For afters, a mint chocolate shake.
Combo beef and chicken teriyaki takeout.
