Dinner out at our favorite seafood place. Split a cioppino - OH NOS!! They’re using bay scallops now, those tasteless little white turds. I will call manana and complain.
I’ve been on my own for the last week since my sweetie’s been out on a trip. So it’s been like Home Alone, but no invaders, and I’m not 10 or so.
I made breakfast for dinner on Mon, with eggs, hash browns, toast and hatch chile breakfast sausage. This was actually a replay of last Sat, but we had biscuits then.
I had two cheese snacks for dinner on Tues, because Monday seemed like it was a lot of food, and I was still kind of recovering.
Wed I had an al pastor taco platter from Tacos La Gloria. Tasty as hell, and nearby.
Thursday I had a spicy Chick Fil A sandwich combo. I was visiting the doc, and it was on the way home, and I hadn’t had one in awhile.
Friday I got one chorizo and three al pastor tacos from Taqueria El Se Hay. Further away from my previously mentioned mainstay, no beans and rice are on offer, it’s cash only, and since it’s basically just a shack you have to stand outside while you wait for your order. The flavor and kind of the camaraderie of a bunch of hungry, numerous and belligerent Dallasites standing around in the heat waiting to order and receive what are exquisite tacos combine to make the drive worth it.
Tonight was a pizza from Old Hag’s Pizza. Pepperoni and jalapeno, with spicy sauce. Another place where you’re basically carrying it home, but instead you can wait for it inside with A/C. I swore I wouldn’t eat the whole thing today, but I bought it at 3, and it was basically all I ate today. Don’t judge me.
Tomorrow, I kind of have already mentally committed to tacos again. The only question is where. If the rains (thank the maker!) aren’t coming in like a hurricane when I get late afternoon hungry, I may go to the Cesar’s Tacos up on Jefferson - where you can eat there, but you’re eating outside. It is my favorite location of that chain. I dunno if eating it outside makes it better or what, but that’s the one that tastes the best to me. If that seems a sketchy prospect due to the weather, I’ll try one of the numerous taquerias nearby that I haven’t had yet.
And then my sweetie returns from her trip on Mon. She likes all of the above, but has more sane eating habits. I kind of go nuts with it when she leaves.
Hungry Man TV dinner. Don’t judge, I was at work on my feet until almost 2 a.m.
At least I oven-baked it instead of nuking it in the microwave.
Yes, I add butter to the corn. Yes, it’s the kind with a little brownie.
Saturday we attended Speal’s Tavern Guitar-b-que, a yearly event with local bands, beer, and an incredible amount of food in Slickville, PA.
Last night I made corn on the grill. I also sliced up some tomatoes, shredded some cheese, snipped some basil, and drizzled good balsamic vinegar.
To me, all balsamic vinegar tastes the same, but my gf specifically buys “good” stuff for occasional use.
Maker’s Mark bourbon to sip.
I finally made empanadas, filled with a ground beef mixture. They were ok. I need to tweak the recipe a bit. Tonight is pepper steak.
Fried pork and rice, an IPA and one scoop each of Key Lime pie and salted caramel ice cream.
Baked cod with panko, salad and fries.
Yesterday was Vietnamese fresh spring rolls with tofu and peanut sauce, sautéed eggplant, and an IPA.
Tonight is leftovers plus some pickled cabbage and another IPA.
Gazpacho and Stuffed Eggplant. Water to drink (Tuesday is my day of atonement).
Baked chicken thighs with corn on the cob and mixed veggies.
Ham, turkey, cheese, lettuce and tomato panini, and tater tots with an IPA and some ice water. Later, a chilled glass of homemade chocolate mousse with fresh whipped cream.
Oklahoma onion burgers and corn/cob.
Chicken noodle soup from the local Chinese place. And a salad.
The other half of the beef, bacon and provolone sub I had for dinner last night.
I made sort of a Mediterranean Olive Oil Pasta and shared it with the family. I threw in several types of olives and lots of sautéed garlic. Even the little ones’ liked it.
We had Tillamook butter pecan ice cream for dessert. Yum, so creamy.
Grilled cobia and corn with string beans.
We had a delicious meal, but will likely never have it again because of circumstances.
A few weeks ago I grilled some nice porterhouse steaks. My gf made chimichurri sauce, but she made way too much (I forget why). So, we had a big bowl of leftover chimichurri.
We used the chimichurri as a starting point, adding in diced zucchini, chopped grilled chicken breast, and pasta. It was very good! Wine spritzers to drink.
Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and buttered peas. Tonight we’ll have shrimp. I haven’t decided what to do with them yet. Maybe grilled Jerk-style.
Spiced hummus with pita, chipotle glazed meatloaf and a baked potato, with Sazerac and some ice water. For afters, blueberry cake, vanilla ice cream and decaf coffee.
Homemade gazpacho, drive-through pulled pork sandwiches.
