What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

I’ve got pizza dough rising. Haven’t decided if it’ll go on the grill or in the oven. Either way, pepperoni (I like to get the sticks and cut it a little thick), feta, pineapple, and basil, mozz, asiago, and parm. Probably oven, since it’s not too hot today and it’s easier.

Sounds similar to spaghetti aglio e olio, except for the olives. I made a quick-and-easy version the other night just for something different, using minced garlic in soybean oil instead of garlic cloves, added half a cup of Provencal garlic butter, stirred in some fresh grated Parmesan and basil, and tossed cooked spaghettini in the sauce. The thing to watch out for in this variation is that minced garlic toasts much more quickly than sliced garlic cloves.

Tonight was tacos and tostadas from a pre-pack of al pastor from HEB. D-licious, and I’ll be delighted to have leftovers tomorrow.

Well that was disappointing, I used a trader joe’s ball of dough, and it came out kinda yuck. All the stuff on the pie was good, but not so for the crust.

I usually make my own, but laziness lead to failure.

I made a big bowl of shirataki noodles, marinated tofu, fish balls stuffed with salted duck egg yolk, chili crisp, furikake, and blend of several Asian sauces in the fridge door. It’s very good.

As an absolute whore for onions, I want to thank you for this link/recipe. It looks amazing.

I haz a very jealous right now.

Thanks to this thread, I got hungry enough to make an ersatz Asian soup: boxed chicken broth doctored up with cilantro, Better Than Buillion Roasted Garlic (just got my first jar recently - where has this stuff been all my life?!?) plus sesame oil and a spoonful of these fancy chili crisps y’all keep talking about.

It was the most recent posts mentioning it that reminded me I had a gift jar in my pantry, and decided if that many Dopers like it, I should try it.

I’m now sipping on some amazing broth, with chunks of a leftover toll torn in for sopping.

Later, I plan on some coffee ice cream with fudge sauce.

… substantial? No. Delicious? Oh, all ye gods, yes.

Glad to have. . .er. . .serviced you. Hope you have a cast iron pan, as this made a huge mess of my stainless pan. Good burgers, though.

Last night at a nice bistro: wild boar spare ribs (a first for me), french fries and ice water. Later, mango sorbet and decaf.

Today is take-out Cuban Pan Con Bistec (Steak Sandwich): Thin slices of marinated sirloin steak sauteed with red onions, layered with romaine lettuce, papas fritas, garlic-cilantro aioli and spicy cajun mayo on toasted Cuban bread.

Pulled pork nachos, collard greens, vinegar slaw. Lots of beer to drink. Blues bands playing all day.

Sounds wonderful.

It was a night, oh what a night
It was a really was such a night

Dr John, RIP.

Several musicians here are friends I haven’t seen in years.

Had a big lunch, so tonight I just had a pecan danish and a glass of lemonade.

More al pastor/bean tostadas. It’s a lot of leftovers, but I’m far from complaining.

Went to an Indian restaurant. Malai kofta, onion kulcha, rice, and ras malai for dessert. I’m stuffed, and have enough left over for 2 lunches.

I grilled two beautiful snapper filets. While the grill was lit I also grilled four nice chicken breasts, two for my gf (low carbing) and two I diced for dog training rewards.

The snapper was wild caught in Indonesia according to the grocery store.

Last night I made another pizza, but with my own crust. Muuuch better than Trader Joe’s crust ball.

Five Guys double cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce, ketchup and pickles, and fries with ketchup, and ice water. Then a strawberry-kiwi slushy for afters.

Whataburger. I had a jalapeno cheese Whataburger and my dear had a Whataburger jr. with cheese. We shared the fries that came with hers and the onion rings I got with mine.
