What's For Dinner Tonight: Episode 2021 – A New Hope

Tonight was Persian spiced beef and eggs (from one of the Milk Street cookbooks), naan, and a salad. First time making this recipe - it was pretty good, so I’ll probably make it again sometime.

Having a slice of sourdough with brie, and a crunchwrap from Taco Hell.

Slice of cheesecake is thawing for later.

No need for me to experiment – jerk pork has been my favourite add-in to ramen for years, along with sliced cremini mushrooms and a green onion garnish. Cooking the spicy pork with the noodles imparts some of the flavour to them, and about half the seasoning packet does the rest.

What I will warn you about, though, is that what I described as the pleasant aroma of fried jerk pork really lingers, and after a while it’s not so pleasant. It lingers about as much and as strongly as cooking a strong curry. For that reason alone I think it would be preferable to stick to the outdoor grill. But, yes, it’s fantastic with ramen.

Spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was jarred from Aldi’s; chipotle pumpkin tomato sauce, and it was delicious.

I made rice pudding again for dessert, substituting a mashed banana for the usual golden raisins. Well worth the carb lecture my gf gave me.

My son (intentionally) made Chuck Steak Soup in the crockpot. It was 3 in the afternoon and the very thin steaks were still frozen rock hard and my idea of a quick fry up with mashed was not gonna happen. He said he was gonna throw it in the pot with broth, fish out the bones and tendons halfway through and toss in potatoes and carrots and celery. We had delicious soup by 8.

Raspberry chicken salad in a wrap, and garlic parmesan tots, with a Flat Tire IPA and a glass of ice water. Later, the last of the store-bought orange slices in dark chocolate, with a glass of milk.

Turkey roasted in homemade barbecue sauce, shredded and served on potato rolls. The last of the red cabbage and raw carrots as the sides. Samuel Smith’s Winter Warmer and dark salted chocolate almond squares for dessert.

I’d take a real bbq sandwich (read=pork) any day over the turkey, but it wasn’t bad, and my husband is delighted we have enough for another meal.

Stromboli, homemade. Yum.

Parmesan/panko-encrusted boneless pork chops along with steamed broccoli and cheesy broccoli rice.

Chicken cordon bleu and fried potatoes!

A tossed salad with oil and vinegar dressing, then chicken parm, couscous and buttered broccoli, with a glass of ice water. Later, spiced cheesecake and two cups of coffee.

Pork chops with mustard/gooseberry jam sauce, potatoes au gratin, sliced apples and some naan.

Grilled T-bone Steaks served with riced cauliflower, risotto, and peas. Johnny Walker Black Label over ice.

Hummus and flatbread, shawarma with grilled veggies and yogurt sauce, french fries and ketchup, with a glass of ice water and a tiny cup of strong, bitter, nigh-on-undrinkable Turkish coffee. Later, some Vermont maple candies.

Sub sandwiches with: ham, chicken, salami, pepperoni, capicola, peppers, red onion, spinach, gouda cheese, vinegar, oil, oregano, parmesan and pepper. El Chingon to drink.

A big bowl of chili and some watermelon.

Ordered out Persian food - fesenjjan and tahdig. Delicious!

Boer chicken pie, mash, cauliflower, and salad, with pumpkin and apple pies for dessert. Early Xmas celebration because it was the only day my sister-in-law and her husband could both be here.

Last night I made chicken fajitas , tonight is a won ton bok Choy mushroom soup thing with noodles .

The rest of the Persian spiced beef and eggs, green beans, more watermelon, and some “canapes” (Triscuits with cheese slices on top).
