Our Christmas feast: Filet mignon (disappointingly tough), mashed potatoes, lima beans, fresh rolls and carrot sticks, with a glass of ice water and another of Yellow Tail merlot. Later, a knockout piece of homemade pecan pie with whipped cream and more ice water.
Last night: smoked brisket, hatch chile mac 'n cheese, and vinegar slaw. Pumpkin pie, whiskey and beer for dessert.
Tonight? Leftovers of the above.
Pancakes and bacon, and a glass of dark cider.
Is there a new thread? Couldn’t find one. Anyway, I thought we were having mushroom soup. My wife told me the ingredients she was using, and my brain pinged me and said “mozzarella cheese? in soup?”, but I ignored it. Well, what she thought was soup turns out to be strata, which is not even in the same family, and since the bread has to soak in the mixture overnight, dinner is a peanut butter sandwich.
Yesterday was shrimp tacos, red cabbage slaw and refried beans. Champagne and a pumpkin tart at midnight.
Tonight was a chicken rice taco bake with tortilla scoops and clementines.
Last night was black eyed peas, mustard greens, and cornbread.
Today was Ro-tel dip and chips.
I think that we collectively more or less decided to stick with this thread through 2022 and now onward into the new year. It seems a shame to lose the context of nearly 1900 prior posts just because there’s a “2021” in the title.
Simple spaghetti with Mids italian sausage sauce, accompanied by water. Chocolate cake, as always, for dessert (before bed ritual).
Tonight was mexican pizzas from Taco Bell!
Pork Roast that’s been in the crockpot with parsnips, carrot, some fennel. Served with mashed potatoes and gravy made from the crockpot juices.
Grey Goose slushy to drink. (Discovered accidentally. I poured Grey Goose over ice the other day. Then something came up and I put my party cup into the freezer to stay chilled. Later, I pulled out the party cup and enough ice had melted pre freezer to make the end result a slushy. I made tonight’s intentionally, being a wise monkey and all,)
Little cheesecake bites (a gift) for dessert.
This is a blast from the past - I remember when they first started selling those back in the 1980s. I don’t think I’ve had one since then.
Tonight was green beans with garlic and red pepper flakes, chicken bites with a soy/Dijon mustard/brown sugar/cider vinegar/creme fraiche sauce, rice, and clementines. Had an excellent Montepulciano we got as a gift from my BIL.
Heheh, I hadn’t eaten at Taco Bell in so long, I didn’t even know they had discontinued them. But I saw a commercial that they had brought them back, and suggested it for dinner.
It’s not quite the same - no black olives or green onions, but it did scratch the “awful Taco Bell pizza thingy” itch.
If you ever want to ruin a meal, here’s how to do it.
I was finishing the last bit from my plate and my gf mentioned that the pork roast we were eating was (pig’s name).
I had helped our neighbors catch her for different treatments. I had interacted with her. I had led her onto the truck to go to slaughter. Why me? Because she trusted and liked me.
I thought the roast was from Giant Eagle. My gf likes that my daughter and SIL are vegetarians. Passive aggressive kitchen talk
Those parsnips were outstanding though. Eat more parsnips.
I planned on getting some groceries and making a pot of stew today. But I have a cold and didn’t feel like going out. So I pulled some chicken out of the freezer and stuck it in the oven.
Fortunately, I can honestly say that I’ve never eaten anything that had a name – or at least, any name that I knew of. And your story helps push me even more toward vegetarianism, though unfortunately pork (jerk pork chops in particular) are an almost-mandatory addition to my beloved ramen noodles. But ramen bowls require very little meat – two medium pork chops go a long way, so I’m not a big consumer.
Last night I used up the last of the Christmas ham by using the ham bone in a pot of bean soup. Paired with cheesy cornbread muffins. Yesterday’s breakfast was a ham and spinach quiche. Another night was ham and corn chowder. They were all so different it didn’t feel like the same protein.
Tonight - shrimp? Chicken? I don’t know…
Got a taco from a local place, plus a big ol’ side of refried beans. Currently snacking on that & some guacamole.
Stouffer’s Pepperoni Pizza Mac & Cheese bowl. Not half bad with a little doctoring (spices, red pepper flake, more cheese). 6 minutes in the micro and I can throw away the dish when I’m done. Score!
Chicken shawarma pita and tabbouleh - at the Chinese Lantern Festival, lol.
Beef n bean chili.
