Work went long, but I got paid for it. Hub supervisor gave me a thank you card, for being hard worker. [Carl Spackler]So I got that going for me, which is nice.[/Carl Spackler]. Bought flea stuff, dog food, and Milk-Bones. So the old man’s gotta stick around for a while.
How do yo like the taste of bear(N.O.B.) and cobra?
seaFOOD. I got a “C” in typing in high school.
I hear the Ash Wednesday celebration is something else.
I had terrible dreams last night. I’m not sure that I want to sleep anymore. The half and half is going bad, so I dumped my coffee. Basically, the start to my day wasn’t great. Hopefully, we’re turning the corner to a better day. We ordered brunch and it will be here shortly. It’s a French Hawaiian bistro and very yummy. Someday I will (might) go out to a restaurant again, but today is not that day.
Dinner is probably shrimp scampi and pasta, with sallit.
Never opened the BBQ store today - someone quit yesterday, and then another guy who was supposed to work this afternoon came in today, asked for his paycheck, and quit on the spot. (I was standing nearby, overheard the whole thing.)
Not enough people to work today.
Worse? Manager already made the call to stay closed tomorrow. I don’t even go in, though I was scheduled to work. Literally nobody else is available besides me and the Newest New Girl, and if it’s just her & me … well, that would be one helluva shitshow.
So, uh, I guess I have all the time in the world to sort/fold/put away this laundry. Probably finish one of my cross-stitch hoops, too.
That does not sound ideal Shoe- I mean, days off are nice, but only if they’re paid, when N.O.W (Not Our Wolves) are on the prowl.
Have read the rest, but it’s too hot for the English, and my brain has noped out a bit.
My new landlord has a 6 year old grand-daughter staying for the weekend, so it’s a bit louder than it has been today. I went to visit some other real human people today, who I’ve only seen as 2d videos for the last year and a half- I only went round to borrow a spare office chair, and wound up sitting in the garden for 4 hours talking nonsense (and very nearly forgot the chair on the way our), and I’m now slightly talked-out. I’m not sure I’m up for chatting with an overexcited 6 year old, so I’m hiding in my room.
Sorry. “Wolves at my door” became my expression for bills howling to be paid, due in large part to the “Dame Hickory” poem I quoted earlier.
I encountered it originally in Watership Down (if you’ve never read it - well, it’s my absolute favorite book ever) and somehow the poem snippet stuck in my brain.
That being said, I wolves, almost as much as I adore painted wild dogs (Lycaon) so I am sorry for any anti-wolf sentiment that might have been posted!
Afternoon all. Watched some Golf, bought a new mouse and lunch, and watched some more golf (exciting, huh??). Have also paid all my bills for the rest of the month (at least the ones I am aware of), but I’ve been in shoe’s predicament many times before, hope the new job doesn’t go belly-up.
doggio, no bonus or ‘day off’ coupon? Just a card? Gee, they really know how to treat a guy right there…
Sorry for the confusion. There are quite a few Mumpster terms that I still don’t know, so I though seawood might be another one of those. And my brain couldn’t realize some things are just typos.
Back to daily news, it was supposed to be less rainy this afternoon, but someone forgot to tell the weather. It’s again wet outside. Hopefully not enough to increase the flooding. Maybe tomorrow we can actually see the sun for longer than an hour.
shoe I hope the BBQ place opens back up, so you can keep N.O.W. away from your door.
Good afternoon, everyone! It’s just after 4:00pm ET.
This morning I slept in a little, paid some bills, and had an 11:00-1:00 video meeting with my volunteer committee (I do a bit of work with the NAACP). Pizza for lunch hit the spot.
There’s a severe thunderstorm watch for this evening, with possible high wind gusts and some flash flooding. There’s been random thunder for a couple of hours, and just in the past 10 min or so it has started getting dark and windy outside (my poor dog has been hiding in the bathroom since the first rumble). Per radar, the worst of it looks like it’ll be overhead in an hour or two.
I’m planning a trip to NYC in September to celebrate my 50th, and yesterday I learned that the Upper West Side hotel I’ve used for the past 10+ years has closed permanently! I picked it because it was two blocks from my uncle and aunt’s place. I love their neighborhood, but there aren’t many hotels near them. However, there’s no reason I have to stay in that part of the city; I might go for something more mid-town. Research will start tomorrow.
(AirBnB is tempting, but technically it’s illegal in Manhattan and I’m just nervous enough about that to prefer a hotel.)
In other news, I ordered a FitBit smartwatch! I’m a bit of a tech/gadget dork: I had a series of smartwatches starting with a Pebble in 2013, but a couple of years ago I got frustrated with the heavy Samsung Galaxy I was using and the lack of nice-looking-but-functional alternatives and went back to just analog watches. But on Thursday, I had the first exercise consult for my surgery: the guy recommended tracking my heart rate while I exercise (whenever I start doing that ) and mentioned either using a FitBit or checking it manually, and I immediately thought “NEW TOY!!” Plus, I loved my Pebble watches and when they folded they sold most of their tech to FitBit. No-brainer, really. I could have gotten a simple model, but I figured I’d jump back into the smartwatch fold. It should arrive on Monday or Tuesday.
I’ve had mine since she was 3 months old, so I totally get that.
My now elderly pup, Cinnamon (see avatar) has decided that thunder is not good. This is a new decision, he never used to care about it. Now he gets up and buries his head in my side when the boomers go off nearby. And we’ve been having daily T-storms for like 3 weeks. And one is heading in right now. However, he’s not anywhere as upset about them as my former dog, who would pace, pant, and drool during thunder.
As long s we don’t lose power from the storm, dinner shall be a burger and some air-fryer asparagus.
Notice he didn’t say how much salad… Half a leaf of lettuce and a cherry tomato may qualify…
It’s getting darker hereabouts and there’s a 50-50 chance of storms for the rest of the day, tho from the looks of radar, most will be staying around Waldorf, so fairly north of us. We shall see. Temps are supposed to drop, tho. Here’s hoping.
I’m having the last of some leftover casserole. FCD is having cereal. Yeah, kinda random dinner plans here. I got some really good sweet cherries from Aldi, and some peaches from Food Lion - I see fruit for my evening, especially since there’s no ice cream in the house. Chillage shall ensue regardless.
We just got back from The NOAH Center… with Abbey. She seems normal. She’s hiding right now.
When we entered the cat colony, Anne was lobbying hard to be adopted. She wanted my complete attention. Spot was like, ‘Hey! Not so fast! Pick me’ Anne was like, ‘Don’t listen to him! Pick me!’
But Mrs. L.A. had her heart set on Abbey, so Abbey it is.
Congratulations on your new feline overlady flyboy! Anne reminds me in markings of my old cat Domino.
My washing machine acted weird this morning. It seems to get hung up on the last spin cycle. It’s not a big deal for woven cotton summer clothing, but the terry towels needed help.
Took Nelson to the dog park for a quick romp this afternoon. Flatbread chicken-bacon-sriracha pizza for supper, then chill.
Agrees with the others, unpaid time off isn’t good when there are N.O.W at the door. Stitching time is always good though.
Congrats on new kitteh, flyboy. I am looking forward to pictures.
George gets fussy around 2pm because he wants a nap. He jumps on the table, tries to climb on my shoulder so he can chew on my hair and yells. George has the coon murr/cherp, but he hasn’t forgotten his demanding kitten scream. George thinks I don’t make good laps and yells until hubs sits on the recliner so they can take a nap together.
Not wanting to spoil George, hubs usually waits a few minutes before sitting down and the only reason he gives in is because he likes having an afternoon nap too. I just smile and nod when he tells me this sort of thing.
FCM good influenced me into making deviled eggs because I like making snacky things for hubs. Hubs likes eating them, so it works out. I moved the pickled cauliflower to the front of the fridge so hubs could find that too and he made happy sounds at the treats.
I hope the washing machine is repairable, when our dishwasher died it was a couple of months before we could get a new one. (I was picky about the color.)
Making baked fried chicken with Cheddar potato rounds and green beans with country ham and pepper. I got a cold beer, and a warm pup. Life is good today
Nope, not even total consciousness on my deathbed. But as long as I can make enough to afford hockey, I’m good.
I get confused sometimes. No worries.
: skriches Cinnamon :
Congrats on the new feline overlord, Flyboy.
FCM, that’s similar to my Bloody Mary deviled aig recipe. Except I garnish with a salad shrimp dusted with Old Bay, and an olive.
Took some Seville and Mexican Sweet Lime seedlings to the non-profit historic garden where I volunteer. Today there was a garlic festival and lots of folks listening to experts on garlic types, how to grow garlic, and historical types for the southwest desert. I couldn’t resist and bought 7 varieties. In the past garlic was a real passion, and was very easy in the Pacific Northwest. Now I get to learn how to grow them in the desert.
Moringa stenopetala seeds (cabbage tree/drumstick tree) arrived from abroad, and I prepared 9 tree pots to plant out tomorrow. This species of Moringa is from NE Africa, and is widely grown there for food, so I thought I would grow some trees to give to our emigres from Somalia/Sudan/Ethiopia, along with some Umbrella thorn trees that are native to the same region. Just a little bit of home for people finding themselves in a very different home now.
At least it’s mostly an annoyance when a dishwasher dies. Hand-washing dishes isn’t fun, but it’s not as bad as going to a laundromat or, worse, losing all your frozen food. Our dishwasher has been making periodic noises, but it’s still working - tho at age 17, I doubt it’ll last much longer.
We just had a power burp and despite the UPS, we lost WiFi for a few minutes. I think my UPS got fried when the idiot who cleaned our pellet stove plugged his vacuum cleaner into my UPS. That’s a lot of UPS in one small paragraph…
