For a metro area of half a million people, it is amazing how many flocks of wild geese and turkeys we see wandering around. Friday on our walk there was a flock of about twenty or so geese on our route attempting to cross the street. There were two of them actually in the street when some cars came. One car slowed and let a goose pass. There was an uomo con un pene molto piccolo in the other lane that actually sped up so he could hit the poor goose and then sped away. I was unable to get a plate number. The goose was hit pretty hard and was able to limp to the curb by flapping its wing to keep the weight off of an injured leg. The rest of the flock stood by and looked at us like they wanted us to help. We called the local animal shelter and they sent a van. The tech was able to net the injured bird and get it in the van. She said she was taking it to the wildlife sanctuary where they help it.
Thanks everybody for the condolences for our friend.
TMI warning! You don’t hafta read:
He has a big tumor on the side of his head in front of his left ear and has a huge bandage on the side of his face. He’s lost the vision and hearing on that side and his mouth is all droopy on that side. The docs say they can’t cut it out for whatever reason. It’s just a matter of time. Anyway, it was otherwise a nice potluck and he seemed to enjoy himself as much as he could.
Sorry about Polar, Taters. I hope it’s better to have loved and lost, then never to have had a dog at all.
No, I’m not trying to be funny.
I read, but have nothing else to contribute, except that I had a neighbor once who decided to treat the neighborhood to extremely loud ‘music’ of questionable origin. I put one of my KL-880s in the front window and treated him, and them, to 5 minutes of Bach on The Pedal Harpsichord (E. Power Biggs). He didn’t do that again.
I was a lot more confrontational in those days.
I read your goose story, Hippie, and think it’s no wonder that aliens don’t want to talk to us.
its actually looking stormy and it rained for a bit … the problem? we’ve hauled out 2 sheds worth of ins filled with toys so we can sort through so a collector can see what he wants to buy … and since we have 40 years of star wars gi joe pokemon ect hopefully hell buy enough for the new house fund
This morning, as I was waiting in the drive-thru for my breakfast (machaca & eggs, beans, rice. Thanks for asking!) I glanced to the right and in the middle of the office lawn next door was a rather large jackrabbit. Just sitting there, watching the street traffic. This was two hours after I found scat in the back yard of some unknown creature, but definitely larger than a house cat. Then one of the flocks of wild parrots perched in the tree across the street as I ate breakfast. Today is the day for Wild Things.
flyboy, we’re waiting on those demanded pictures…
I have poured boiling acid and lava onbathed Gordie. He is not talking to me right now. Also:
Me: finishes cleaning entire apartment
Cat: Immediately hornks on carpet
You have a normal healthy cat.
Still trying to figure out how two pickup orders for Target got split across 3 stores, but DH doesn’t seem to be crabby about it, at least. Also gotta feed the car.
wow you live that close to 3 targets? we only have 2 and there 45 minutes a part …
oh and by the way … its national ice cream day sos ya supposed to acquire and consume some today …
We’re waiting for Abbey to become sociable. ![]()
Got the bi-weekly trash and recycling out. I was going to make a couple of jars of pork rub, but we have no brown sugar or ground ginger. I ground a quarter of a cup of pepper, and mixed up the other ingredients though. I’ll take the MG to the supermarket, and visit the deli for turkey for sangwiches for dinner.
Afternoon all. Last night the sound cut out on my computer, and my attempts to fix it only made it worse. Went out this morning to buy new speakers, and that didn’t help any, either. Will probably have to get someone over to fix it, but I’ll get that after the 20-25 July mini-vacation. Can live a mute life for a couple days…
Dined out at Texas Roadhouse and worked on soccer stuff (6-year old group I’m coordinating is now at 73 boys…oh joy). Raining on and off today and supposed to have tunder-boomers tonight and tomorrow, so mowing the lawn Firday looks like it was a good idea.
hippie, as if we didn’t know it already, you are good people. And we have about 40-50 geese living at one of the parks we practice soccer at (there is a good-sized man-made lake there), so they occasionally try to take over the fields, and folks duck when we get a low fly-by. But don’t think I’ve ever heard of one being run down on purpose.
Taters, best wishes for Polar.
Have read all but absorbed little. So hugs, tears, laughter and hope to any and all who are in need of it. Oh, and I think sunstone’s Mumper name should be “Brightrock” Any others?
Howdy Yall! We deheathenated, had N.O.;L. at Sonny’s, got back to da cave and have achieved nappage. Decided against quality cee-mint pond time since yestiddy was a bit much. Steaks are marinatin’ and beer is chillin’ as tomorrow is men’s night over to the church house. I have also hauled the biiiiiiiiiiiiiig trash can all the way down to the road for pickup tomorrow. Thus is the news from swampland.
Migraine today. Storm’s coming in, so I expect the pressure is changing, which doesn’t agree with me. Unfortunately, this storm is supposed to produce a lot of lightning, so we’ve got more fires predicted. I’m hoping very hard that things will stay under control.
I predict the rest of the day will involve resting in the dark and wishing people would stop breathing so loud.
Tomorrow I’ve got another multi hour MRI. It should be “fun”.
I’ll take my grumpy self off now. Have a good day everyone.
What a little cutie!
In case anyone is interested…
Pork Rub
½ cup brown sugar
1 tablespoon coarsely ground black pepper
1 tablespoon kosher salt
1½ teaspoons garlic powder
1 teaspoon dry mustard powder
½ teaspoon ground ginger
½ teaspoon onion powder
½ teaspoon red pepper flakes
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon ground cumin
½ teaspoon smoked paprika
¼ teaspoon dried thyme leaves
I made a quadruple batch, filling an ex-pickle jar and most of a mason jar.
6 p.m. now. Mom and I watched Inside Out on our Disney+ with our landlady and landlord, and our landlady, Cherie, cried when Bing Bong died, and felt silly about it. Hey, it gets me every time too. Everyone’s had an imaginary friend they eventually had to say goodbye to.
It was Music Sunday at church today. About halfway through the service, my ex-girlfriend, whom I’m once again friends with after a year and a half of us not talking to each other, decided she’d had enough and bowed out early. She missed a bombshell announcement: At the end of the service, our pastor announced his retirement from active ministry after 25 years serving our church. His last day will be September 26.
We watched a little bit of baseball, had pizza, and now I’m RPing with the ex.
lol i as ninja’ed by sunny because I wanted to bitch about the same thing
between being shook awoke and this storm my head is killing me so badly my eyes and ears are hurting …
if I don’t wake up on my own I get a headache and the pressure from the air …
12 within 20 miles of me. I do live in a good-size city after all.
Back from erranding, including feeding ourselves and the car. DH is quite happy about the replacement heads for his shaver, and we’re both happy about the Baja Blast Mountain Dew 12-packs (even found zero sugar for DH).
Sloth is likely to ensue from here, with any additional eating being via forage.
Tomorrow’s game plan involves dividing time between job-hunting activities and defilthifying.
SQUEEEEEEEEEEE!
Abbey is cute.
RPing with the ex did not go well at all. In the out-of-character channel, I introduced her to a friend of mine, and my ex went ballistic on me. She told me that she’d created a new character persona because she was getting sexually harassed under the previous alt, and people would always bug her to do sex scenes. And that’s why she left, the first time.
I didn’t know this. She never told me.
She saw this as proof that she can’t trust me anymore. She said that the dinner we’d planned is off, that she doesn’t want to be my friend anymore, she won’t be coming to church, she doesn’t want me texting her anymore, and maybe, just maybe, she’ll consider forgiving me at some point in the future.
I was just trying to make her feel welcome in the writing group! This kind of lack of communication is what doomed our relationship when we had it.
Home from a really nice party! I saw some cousins I hadn’t seen in eons and I ate waaaaaaaay too much. And as far as I’m concerned, I won White Elephant with this that my nephew brought to offload:
At one point, it had been in my sister’s house - no clue where she got it. But we’re thinking it’ll go over the basement mantle. ![]()
The second best white elephant was an actual ceramic white elephant! I would have stolen it from my cousin but she really liked it and how can you not keep a deer skull with antlers??
Long drive home - FCD wanted me to drive and while traffic was actually pretty decent, I’m beat. I may sleep with Mel tonight.
