Welp. The Occupant isn’t Occupying any more, SiL’s putting up a happy front but if I know her she’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster for the next few weeks.
Hugs, boos, etc. Off to the Pit to grouch about my boss.

Aw, Nava, that’s rough. I can’t even imagine… ![]()
Just finished fixing the fence - it was pretty obvious where the dog got thru. I had to cut out a section that was really bent up and splice in a repair. Fortunately, we had a good-sized roll of fencing left over. I used wire ties to cinch it up, then bent the ends of the wire around the adjacent section. I must have been a rancher’s wife in a previous life, fixing the fences around our grazing lands!
It’s not pretty, but we can’t see it from the house, what with all the foliage, and I don’t care whether the neighbor sees it or not - we paid for the fence, it’s ours.
And, of course, there was blood. I got scratched in several places by the cut ends, and at least one skeeter bit me - actually, I only saw one, but I’ve got itchy spots on both arms and one leg. Dammit.
Speaking of blood, FCD just got back from having his drawn - the line was too long yesterday, but today, he was second, so that’s done. I need to contact the guy who managed the company website - FCD wants to continue to use the email address for at least another year and I need to let Kody know that we want the website down, but we want to keep the domain. So that’s next.
And it’s barely after 8AM!! That’s what happens when you wake at 5…
Happy Thorsday!
The sun is shining, but other than that, I have no clue what it’s like outside.
The dogs are already annoyed at me.
I slept in until 7am, and it felt good to do so.
I’ve eaten breakfast and paid some bills.
Now onto the bs with AT&T, who were supposed to have the account up within 72 hours.
That should have been yesterday,
Obviously, their definition of 72 hours and the world’s definition of 72 hours don’t match.
Poor little Higgs, I hope she is okay and feels better soon.
Today my son is going to weed whack the side yard, finally. And turn the water on so I can hose down the front porch, back porch, deck, and lawn furniture. The front porch is a mess from the birds since they discovered the outside cat’s bowl of food. I’m still gathering stuff for the Purple Heart and I need him to get stuff off the high shelves for me.
I must say, you look very pretty and sophisticated! Dunno what I was doing on July 15, 1962, but I was probably at our cottage in the Laurentians. And one summer at around that time, though I’m not sure of the exact year, let alone the date, I got my first puppy. But I remember it being at the cottage.
Are we still doing “on this day in …”? Because today is July 15, and lots of stuff happened.
On this day in 1799, French officer in the Army of engineers Pierre-François Bouchard discovered the Rosetta Stone, during Napoleon’s Egyptian campaign.
In 1869 on this day, Frenchman Hippolye Méga-Mouriès patented margarine, to the everlasting chagrin of other Frenchmen ever since.
But here is the kind of stuff that should not go unnoticed. On this day in 1915 (there is, to be fair, some controversy over whether it was really July 15) one Heinrich Albert, apparently absent-minded, accidentally left his briefcase on a New York subway car. When the briefcase was duly examined, it turned out to contain the details of a massive German espionage network throughout the US. Dr. Albert himself, it appears, was the head of German espionage and propaganda in the US. I would like to think that in the hallowed halls of German government, the word dummkopf was used extensively and with feeling in the following days and weeks, along with (in German) “he’d forget his head if it wasn’t screwed on”.
Moving along, on this day in 1916 the Pacific Aero Products Company was founded in Seattle. Less than a year later it was renamed for its founder, lumber baron William Boeing. Exactly 38 years later to the day, on July 15, 1954, the Boeing 367-80 (the “Dash-80”) made its first test flight. The Dash-80 was the prototype – and almost identical – to the Boeing 707 that shortly developed from it, the first widespread passenger jetliner and one of the most iconic aircraft of all time.
On this day in 1965, the Mariner IV spacecraft made its closest approach to Mars and sent back the first ever close-up pictures. I was so excited that I wrote to NASA asking for official pictures. (They sent them – a package of 8x10 glossies.)
And let’s not forget the really important stuff. On this day in 1972, the Elton John album “Honky Chateau” (which included the hit “Rocket Man”) became his first #1 album in the US.
And finally, not to be outdone, the pièce de résistance of all July 15s in recorded history, this was the date when, in 1922, the Bronx Zoo displayed the duck-billed platypus in the US for the first time.
I’ve always thought of the platypus as proof God has a sense of humor.
My only issue with the above is that the plural of platypus is not platypi. I believe it should be platypodes.
I’m up. I have to be on camera today, so I’ve got mascara on and lip gloss. I almost stabbed myself in the eye (again) putting on the mascara, but at least you can tell that my eyes are open now.
It’s gonna be a hot, sunny and crazy humid day today. I walked outside and felt like I’d been slapped in the face by a sauna, but that’s neither new nor noteworthy for where I live. I got in a solid run yesterday (well, it was more waddle than run). I also packed dinner up last night and took it to the neighborhood pool. It turned out being a bizarre mishmash of chicken potstickers, pizza rolls and curry, but I’ve confirmed: everything goes well with pool wine.
I’m owned by 4. Tell her she’s slacking! Then adopt both. Or…you could help scoop the poop. Make it a family activity.
Morning all. Underwear is washed and is now in the dryer and shirts are in the washer, so I have been productive this morning. Looks like a nice, bright day, I should mow the lawn while I have the chance, but think I’ll gamble on the weather staying nice this weekend.
wolfie, been through the Boeing plant at Everett years ago…amazing place with planes under construction.
FCM, hope Higgs is regaining some of his sass. Might be her pride is as hurt as her body…
OK, need to organize the next two loads of laundry and run the dishwasher. All y’all take care.
Shorthanded, and it was FUBAR. The cat hornked on the carpet. I need a beer and a nap.
{{{{Nava and SiL}}}}
God: “Imma gonna make a duck beaver.”
AngeL: “Ummm, OK.”
God: “And make it Australian and venomous.”
Angel: “…”
God: “And make it glow in the dark.”
AngeL: “PUT DOWN THE BONG.”
FCM, glad Higgs is more herself, and FCD doesn’t need an alibi. Yet.
Afternoon, mumpers!
Sorry to hear about SIL, Nava, I am sure she’s putting on a brave face but she’s not fooling you.
Also sorry to hear about Higgs, Mooooom, hope she recovers soon.
Flyboy yay for a new kittie! I vote for the black cat, they’re the bestest!
Not my turn to make dinner tonight so that means I can log out of work now and I’ll have time to do a workout and still be able to recover afterwards! That’s the most noteworthy thing about my day.
Ollo. 'Tis '89 Amurrikin out and our AC is audibly straining to keep us cool in the trailer; it’s doing an okay job so far, so hopefully we won’t have to bug out. The library is only open until 5 today, and we have spent way too much money at Starbucks lately. I suppose we could go into the big house if need be, but it’s only a difference of a few degrees in temperature, and often on weekdays, by 5 o’clock the landlord has it on Fox News and keeps it on until he goes to bed. Ugh, no thanks.
I’ve got my mother set up on her lymphedema pump, which she’s supposed to do for three hours every day; realistically she gets that much about three or four days a week. She didn’t get it done yesterday, because we were out all day.
In the meantime, I’m roleplaying in my fantasy RP game, as my vulpine bard character, named Leo. Leo is in an interesting love triangle with two other vulpines, a bard named Synna and a mage named Sarmani. Leo’s in love with Sarmani but not with Synna, and Synna’s in love with Sarmani. Right now, I’m playing with Synna, having dinner with her while brainstorming song ideas for the upcoming Battle of the Bands.
We were going to go out for Chinese for lunch - but the first place we stopped wasn’t open, even tho we arrived 45 mins after they should have opened. The second place we went to only did carryout - they haven’t opened their dining room back up yet. So we went to the Messican place next door and had a pretty awful lunch.
Shortly after we got back, I brought the cart around front, and a few minutes later, the Amazon van pulled up. The nice driver loaded the box on my cart and I hauled it to the basement. In a little bit, I’ll attempt to assemble it. FCD is going to nap, so I don’t want to bother him. He had a bad night…
To sum up - lousy lunch, but good timing on the delivery. Net positive!

{{{Nava + SiL}}}
Moommm I hope Higgs continues to recover. Poor baby.
I have a small dog curled up next to me, and he frowns on typing while he naps. He’s a tyrant.
Today is the first day in forever that it’s cool enough to have the house open this morning. I’ll have to shut it up soon. The plan is pot roast for dinner, but I need to start it soon and I have the donwannas.
Happy Thors-day!
Afternoon all. Four loads of laundry washed and dried, but not yet folded/hung. I’m also running an empty machine with a Tide packet for ‘cleaning’ the inside…we’ll see, mostly it smells terrible. Also need to squeeze all the dishes in the dishwasher for this cycle, I always try to get just one more in there…
Everybody take care now.
Always drives me up the wall how fast the sink fills agan while the dishwasher is running. New dirty dishes just spontaneously generate, apparently (but not enough to fill in the missing pieces in my now-discontinued Corelle design or my flatware, dammit).
13 years ago today (more or less), my doggy was born!
I rescued her in late October 2008, and the vet figured she was 3-4 months old at the time. We guesstimated a mid-July birthday, and the poor dog has suffered even more spoilage than usual once a year ever since. She is now 74 in people years, which makes her one year older than my father…which tickles me, for some reason.
Absolutely no idea what I want to do for dinner tonight. I should eat more of the turkey and low-carb wraps that will both expire next week, but I’m feeling kind of grumpy about that idea. I still have a couple of hours to figure something out.
I hardly ever misplace my keys, but yesterday morning I couldn’t find them. Just about when I was starting to panic, I checked one last place…and, yep, they’d spent the night in the front door. {sigh}
Oh no! I’m so sorry. ![]()
I think the hardest thing about being back at work every T/W/TH is that I have an interior office, and absolutely no idea what’s happening outside for most of the day. My home office has two windows, and I really miss having a view outside. I won’t be coming here at all next week (various appointments and training sessions and the like make it easier to telework every day), so I’ll have some time to bask in the natural light before coming back to my “hole” (which I actually quite like apart from the whole windowless part).
I decided to trim my bangs last night, and (unsurprisingly) they are way too short today. But I turned my camera on for this morning’s meeting, anyway. I felt so brave!
Bangs are brave! I bet you rocked them, too!
Today has been a hot damn mess and makes the mammogram I have scheduled for tomorrow morning something to actually look forward to.
