What's noteworthy about your day in the MMP?

Well, I am no longer the newest New Girl at work. I helped train Newest New Girl, in fact - that must mean they consider me something of an expert!

But N.N.G. was … woooof. I mean, she’s super new and all, but is it too much to ask that you check the orders before just handing them out the drive-thru window willy-nilly?

Not just, “Here ya go!” but something like, “Here’s your pulled pork sandwich, with the slaw and beans in the bag, too!”
Gives 'em a chance to make a face and go, “Uh, noooooo, I ordered { something else entirely }” before you go handing out the wrong order to the wrong person.

REPEATEDLY.

Like, after the third or fourth “Where did X order go?!” “Oh, uh-oh, I handed that out the window already.” you’d think … but nope.

{ sigh } Yeah, I know what they say about common sense - it ain’t that common.

I stayed late to help, but eventually kinda gave up and left the closing shift to sort things out amongst themselves.

It rained again this morning, which was very nice.

Poor Higgs! I agree with the extra scratches and cookies faction.

Flyboy have you considered a litter robot or something like that? They are pricey, but as long as you clean them (vacuum the dust out of the insides and tracks) on a regular basis, they make cleaning up after multiple cats a breeze. They actually save money on litter too.

We have an active Community Association out here and one of the things they organize is getting perishable food from Trader Joes, putting it in boxes and handing the boxes out to anyone who shows up once a week. No income limits and no idea what will be in the boxes.

Today we got a head of cauliflower which I chopped up and put a jar of fridge pickles in the back of the fridge so hubs won’t see them for a couple of days. We got some very tasteless apricots which was disappointing, most of the fruit we’ve been getting this year hasn’t been very good. I have a couple of pears sitting on the counter to ripen, they sure don’t smell very peary.

I haven’t done any of my needle work for a couple of weeks. I’ve had a kitten for a couple of weeks. I’ve gotta start dragging something outside in the morning when its cool enough to work.

George went to the vet and he got admired and all. We were going to take him to the low cost spay/neuter clinic at 6 months, but they lost their vet and now we have to pay a regular vet to do it. We’ve never paid a regular vet for a neuter so I was shocked when the vet said George needed pre-surgery blood work.

It got up to 94 or so in the heat of the day, and the AC was like,

So we had to bug out and go to Starbucks again, where I’m roleplaying and waiting for the sun to go down.

Howdy Y’all! Mowage was accomplished this mornin’. Mowage was also accomplished all around us as the sound of mowers filled the ‘hood for much of the day. We’re trendsetters! Some quality cee-mint pond was had. We came in cause we started hearin’ thunder in the distance. Thunder all around us but never close to us. Right now 'tis a wee bit rainy out. All in all a good day.

Another cookies and extra attention for Higgs advocate. :skritches:

I’m sorry about your SIL nava. Even when an unplanned pregnancy doesn’t work out, it’s still an emotional roller coaster when it ends.

unknown, I don’t know about kittehs, but when I had Nelson neutered at the vet almost four years ago, the bloodwork and everything was ~$150. I thought that was pretty reasonable. The practice that I take him to tends to keep spay and neuter pretty cost friendly.

I found ~$20K of phones that had been written off a couple of months ago today! I kid you not, the warehouse manager who pursued other opportunities has cost the company over $1M already and if we wind up doing a physical inventory, up that to ~$5M. Oy vey!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

That sucks mightily. I’ve been chewing on popsicles like a little kid myself, to help keep cool.
Do you have a freezer to keep things cold?

In the worst heat, I have been known to stick a (wrapped!) popsicle down my shirt and/or lay one across my inner thigh to cool my femoral artery - the latter sounds weird, but is a remarkably fast way to fix your blood temperature.

red, sounds like the "other opportunities’ that dude should be pursuing is from behind bars. Good on ya for finding at least some of the stuff.

shoe, sounds like NNG might not be long for the job. A few too many complaints and…

Oopsie, congrats on the puppers B-day. What type is it?

Seanette, that’s one reason I’m postponing my dishwasher run, I don’t want to leave to
much sitting around while I’m gone most of next week. Only one of me here, so have no one to blame but myself.

Laundry is all folded and tucked away. Mail is stopped for next week and will call the newspaper shortly to hold delivery, so I am being a responsible person. Still need to do mowage and rain is forecast for the next couple of days, so we’ll see…

Everybody have a good night.

Up from naptime. Making Italian chciken with orzo, and sipping on a martini.

Gordie is 15 1/2, which is about 95 in human years.

Flipper, sorry about being stuck in a hot trailer.

Try a few glugs of vinegar! It’s a miracle juice!

Very impressed with the Montessori school - we’re going to underwrite Roxy’s tuition since daughter and SIL can’t afford it and FCD wants to put some of his earnings towards it. She’ll be there for 2 years - till she’s eligible for kindergarten, and by that time, she should be ready for 2nd or 3rd grade! Well, maybe not… But she’s going to love this school. She hated to leave when our tour was over.

Higgs seems to be doing a little better. I’ll give her another aspirin before bedtime. She’s mostly stayed in today, but she has gone out a few times to pee, so I’m optimistic. I’m also tahred - I had a broken night, plus I was up at 5. Shortly, I’ll mosey back and read till I can’t read any more.

I got this email from Grays Harbor Historical Seaport.

The Hawaiian Chieftain has been sold and will eventually be returning to her home state of Hawai’i.

Grays Harbor Historical Seaport — who has owned Hawaiian Chieftain since 2005 —made the difficult decision to put her up for sale in 2019 and dedicate their focus to Lady Washington and the Seaport Landing waterfront development.

According to the Seaport’s Executive Director Brandi Bednarik, “We were spread too thin to take on two boat restoration projects and the Seaport Landing development. After a year of planning and working with our donors, it was determined that this was the most logical step for us, though a heartbreaking one. Many of us — especially our past crew — put thousands of hours of love and care into Chieftain, or Chiefy, as she was affectionately nicknamed.” She went on to say, “It is the bittersweet end of an era. We are excited to have found Chieftain the perfect home with Aubrey and Matt. To help ensure the Lady Washington could continue sailing and advance the Seaport Landing development, we had to acknowledge it was time to let Chieftain go somewhere where she could receive the love and attention she deserves. It was very important to the Board, staff, and crew for the Chieftain to end up in a good home with someone who would take the best care of her. We are confident that we found her such a home.”

The new owners are Aubrey and Matt Wilson. Their current mission is Chieftain’s complete restoration and COI reinstatement. After repairs, they plan to sail her to Hawai’i, where she will once again take on passengers for day sails, be available for tours and events, and offer educational programs and sail training opportunities.

Aubrey is very familiar with sailing traditionally rigged tall ships and has previously worked as a deckhand on Niagara, Tole Mour, and Roseway. Matt is . . . less familiar. He has sailed on a tall ship exactly once - on Hawaiian Chieftain with Aubrey in 2013 - but apparently it made an impression!

The Wilsons had this to say about the purchase: “Working with Grays Harbor Historical Seaport has been wonderful, and we are grateful for their support as we begin the journey to restore this beloved tall ship. We understand many people are emotionally invested in the Chieftain’s future, and a change like this can be hard, but we hope everyone will be as excited as we are about our plans.”

The project is already underway. Soon, Hawaiian Chieftain will be towed from Astoria, Oregon to Port Townsend, Washington to begin repairs. Estimated completion of the repairs is 6 months to a year after which a farewell party will take place at the Seaport Landing.

Be part of the Chieftan’s adventure by visiting sailhawaiianchieftain.com where the Wilsons will be posting updates on the restoration progress.

We’ve been on Hawaiian Chieftain twice. Nice ship, but we do like Lady Washington better. Last year (?) we went on a Battle Sail on Lady Washington. Our side won; Hawaiian Chieftain lost. :stuck_out_tongue:

We’re going for an Adventure Sail on 20 August.

The neigbors are celebrating the Canonization of St. Francis of Assisi with the traditional fireworks.

i am sorry for all of the frightened dogs and cats. Fireworks also scare birds and squirrels.

You’d say the same thing if you saw my ankles!

Montessori school is great~Roxy will love it and it will give her an enduring love of self-directed learning. My two youngest each did 5 years of elementary Montessori and still praise it to the high heavens.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 72 Amurrkin out and cloudy with a predicted high of 92 and partly to mostly N.O.S. for the day. We shall see. We have visions of haircuts today. We both need to be shorn. Also I must attend to some church janitor Junior Warden duties. Hopefully there will be quality cee-mint pond time. Sup shall be majik intartoobz pizza and sallit, as sallit makes the majik intartoobz pizza healthy.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I must purtify as plans are to be about the public. Such bother!

Happy Firday Y’all!

BBBoo - that’s great to know. I’m not anti-public school, but I do wish we could have afforded private school for our daughter (beyond the 2 years of pre-K we managed.) She did fine in the public system, as attested by her full ride to UCF, but there’s something to be said for smaller class size and focused attention. Still, getting Roxy a good start will be valuable. And we’ve already started a college fund for her and Tobias.

Higgs seems a bit better this morning - I’m hoping the aspirin is helping. It’s just low-dose but she’s a little dog. On the less-good side, I noticed a couple of mats on Ziva’s butt end, dammit. She won’t let me brush her, and I think it’s already to the point where she needs a lion cut again. Dammit. I hope I saved the number of the vet’s assistant who did her last time, what with the phone change…

Today is laundry day, assemble the exercise bike day, and boil eggs for deviled eggs day. I also need to print out the application for Roxy’s school - apparently they don’t do on-line applications, just on-line download of .pdf forms. And my daughter doesn’t have a printer, so…

Weird thing last night - when I went to the bedroom, right after I closed the door, I looked out the window and it appeared that the yard was covered in snow! :open_mouth: I know it was an illusion, but it threw me for a few seconds. Was there a moon? Or just tired eyes??

Anyway, I’m working on caffeination before having a shower and heading to the basement to begin my chores. Busy busy!!

Happy Firday, to those for whom FIrday is different from the rest of the week! That’s a retiree joke, son!

My daughter is dog sitting for a friend. We are hosting an older Shitzu named Maurice and a very young French Bulldog named Olive. Their mom dropped them off last evening and then took my daughter out to dinner, leaving our guests in Anne’'s basement apartment. After a bit we started hearing occasional barks from Olive. She seems to be a little frightened being in a strange place. We have the door to the basement closed t keep Ralphie the cat away from the dogs. I am sure Ralphie would be OK, but evidently neither of the dogs have any experience with cats and we decide that this is not the time to experiment.

We have a long list of errands to run today. and my daughter is leaving for work in a few minutes. I am sure the dogs will be OK.

It’s a decent morning, I think. Aside from having to clean up the kitchen, again. I’ve made a huge batch of Zucchini-Apple-Nut Bread. I ended up with three full-sized loaves, and one mini loaf. A friend that cuts our grass at a lot we own, will get two full-sized loaves. Another friend will get the mini loaf, and my daughter wants the remaining full-sized loaf. So, at least I don’t have to worry about trying to make myself tiptoe around the stuff, since I really can’t have any. I don’t own enough insulin for that shit. Humbug!

I’m currently doing up some laundry. Towels are in there now, soon to be switched out for another load. Joy. There’s NEVER an end to laundry. I just put it off as long as possible, these days. I’m SO lazy.

It’s supposed to be an ok day around these parts. Only a high of 80*F, and some possible scattered rain. Works for me. I’ll call it a win.

I got the grocery shopping done yesterday. I didn’t forget too many things. I did buy some underwear, but, they could have been a size larger. Oh, well. It’ll work. Story of my life.

Ok. I need to go check on that bread. Have a good day, folks.

Blurf! 78 Amurrikin right now with a high of 92 expected. We’ll probably have to bug out again later today, but honest to God we’re spending too much money, so we’ll probably just go into the big house. The library is only open late on Tuesdays. They have a book waiting for me.

Mom’s doing her lymphedema pump, and I’m RPing.

Morning all. Up about 6am so nappage is probable. Weather wizards are saying there is an 80% chance of rain Sat-Sun, so I guess I must mow today. Also need to do a little banking and continue doing soccer stuff. Ah well, keeps me busy and out of trouble.

Have read all but absorbed little. Everyone have a good Firday.

Parental units are coming back tonight. Hopefully I get outta work on time, gimme a chance to shower or at least change clothes before they get here.

… speaking of, I think I was supposed to get paid today. Nuthin’ in my bank account yet, though, so … the hell?
