What's noteworthy about your day in the MMP?

Thanks to all for the hugs.

I don’t think I said it, but I just sold the Barcelona flat. I used it as a “logistic base”, both a place to live when I had a project there and a place to be able to “go ‘home’ on the weekends” and do laundry, etc etc while actually deployed somewhere else. Now that I’m WFH it didn’t make sense any more. Today I paid the piece of taxes I owe the town for selling the flat, I’m all legal and legit and all that stuff.

I’m also starting to feel old. I’ve been on the downslope side of the proverbial laboral hill for several years, but this team is… between how many of us are new in the company, how many have been placed in areas where they had exactly zero experience (as anybody knows, “sales” and “purchasing” are the same thing, amIrite?) and other stuff, we have mistakes and miscoordinations that just… well, like I said, I feel like shaking my walker at them while yelling to geroff my project and explain that when I was their age we had to walk uphill in the snow carrying the servers and we actually got it right, damnit! :stuck_out_tongue:

$$$ thoughts, shoe (pst, where is the color now?)

Happy Firday!

It’s a bright, muggy, 81 degrees outside.

I may or may not have to go out in it.
My truck might be ready today, then again, it might not.
I didn’t realize the shop was closed on weekends, so it I don’t get it today, it won’t be ready until Moonday.

My son’s paycheck was bigger than mine today, by 62 cents. I need to stop taking time off and get back to irking normal hours.

Just finished assembling FCD’s exercise bike - many bad words were said when I dropped the allen wrench in the front assembly, forcing me to disassemble the shroud to get the stoopit thing out. Dammit. But it works. He futzed with it to find the seat setting he prefers - now he just needs to learn how to use the programs and assorted settings. I’ll stick with my treadmill, thanks. But we can do both together while watching TV downstairs. And we’re hoping it’ll help strengthen his legs before and after knee replacement.

I also managed to run a load in the dishwasher and 2 loads of laundry. One load is on the line, the other is in the dryer, because I don’t have the time or enough clothespins to hang unders and socks on the lines. Time to start thinking about lunch…

Another FUBAR day at work. And somebody spilled all manner of fruit in the road on the way home, and I had to drive through it. Now the car smells like Carmen Miranda’s zombie(ironic, because she’s named after Miss Miranda).

Every time they change hamsters, we lose something. No color any more. Soon we might not have text.

Pouts mightily at the lack of ability to purple Ms shoe :frowning:

Afternoon, mumpers! Finally got to the end of a horrible week…I am so ready for a couple of days off. We are promised temperatures close to 30C/90F. It is currently 27C/80F and that’s more than enough for me.

Busy weekend ahead, but for now, I need more water before I contemplate any exercise. That’ll also require a fan for the duration of the class. I hope tomorrow the gym instructor puts the aircon on Cold instead of Humid like last week…no wonder we were melting!

Howdy all. Lawn is about 60% mowed and I have already filled 3 30-gallon bags of clippings and should get a couple more. 87F and according to the weather wizards, it feels like 97F outside…they’ll get no argument from me. On my second cool-down break and wondering if it’s time I hired someone to do this…I won’t, if some of the only exercise I get, but man it’s wearing…and I don’t have a swimming pool like swampy has. I do have a large bathtub and I’ll be in it soon after completion of mowage.

FCM, yea on the bike and treadmill…keep on exercising, I could watch you two exercise all day…

Sari, kid should have to pay all the bills this month, being that he’s rich and all…(grin)

Nava, Father Time is unbeaten at this game, just ride with it and remember we were young once–and growing old is mandatory; growing up is not.

Ok, rested for 20 minutes, heading out to face the rest of the lawn. All y’all take care.

You are so sweet.

Paycheck was handed to me on paper, so { whew!! } I did get paid.

Might even be able to chase one or two wolves away from my door, after paying rent. We’ll see. (There are a LOT of wolves howling at my door.)

'Dame Hickory, Dame Hickory
Here's a wolf at your door,
 His teeth grinning white,
 And his tongue wagging sore!'
'Nay!' said Dame Hickory, 'ye false faerie!'
But a wolf 'twas indeed, and famished was he.

I had no idea Bobby Flay made such a wondrous eggplant casserole. Well, now I know. I don’t generally even like eggplant (texture; also, it looks terrible when it’s cooked) but the red pepper pesto & pound of cheese helps.

The doctor was visited this morning, things were squished. It was still better than work. Aaaand, overlygirl just attempted to “show me how real chefs flip a veggie burger.” Apparently real chefs bring hot pans out to the living room where we have white carpet and fling veggie burgers until they go “splat” on the white carpet and their mom’s desk. Dammit. I had her put stain remover on the worst of the bits and am now extremely grateful I sit near an open window most of the time.

Good news and bad news.

Good news is: potluck tonight. There’s a community of ‘well-seasoned’ folks here that used to have a ‘Friday night soiree’ every Friday, before covid. It’s starting up again. Yay!

The reason is the bad news. Another one of us has cancer. (that makes 3 from this group). He has decided he’s had enough of the treatments and is going into hospice. so tonight is for him. We’ve got about 4 lbs of polish kielbasa we’re going to grill gently, cut up, and slather with BBQ sauce. It’ll be disgustingly unhealthy, and hopefully well received.

Enough.

I’m so sorry, Bumba.

Good afternoon, everyone! It’s nearly 3:00pm ET here, and I haven’t eaten lunch yet. At some point during the past year, my lunch appetite shifted: I used to be starving by 11:30, but now it’s often 1:30 or 2:00 before I can be bothered to eat. I’ve been vaguely hungry for about an hour, but not hungry enough to take a few steps into the kitchen. My breakfast routine is the same as always (a protein shake), so I don’t know what’s changed. At this point, I’ll just grab a protein bar to tide me over until dinner.

LOL! I’ve had bangs forever. I grew them out once, but I didn’t like seeing that much forehead on myself. Unfortunately they don’t help with my baby face, but what are ya gonna do. I’ve yet to return to the hair salon, so I’ve been trimming them myself for the past 16 months. I hadn’t been doing too badly, until Wednesday night!

Thanks! She’s a hound mix, about 48 pounds, with Beagle features but long legs and a big chest (if she were a person she’d be a swimsuit model). One of these days I’ll pick an anonymous photo hosting site and share some pics.

Wow! How big is he? How’s he doing?

So far, the only signs of my girl’s age are some stiffness in her hips and a touch of cloudiness in her eyes (though I haven’t noticed any change in her vision yet). Otherwise, she doesn’t act her age – she still plays with her dinner every single night, etc. I’m hoping to have several more years with her, but I’ll also be on the lookout for the moment she starts to suffer.

You have inspired me, sir!

Not so much the salad part, but the pizza. :pizza:

{whew} indeed!!

Oh no, I’m so sorry!

Bumba - we’re of an age where, sadly, that will happen more and more. Stoopit mortality…

I brought in the laundry from the lines and harvested 6 more cherry 'maters. Yum! There are 3 beefsteaks that I may be able to pick tomorrow. I’ve boiled and peeled the eggs that will be deviled for our Christmas in July party on Sunday. Tomorrow, I’ll mix up the fillings.

I need to decide what we’ll have for supper. I was thinking maybe shrimp and roasted little red spuds and some sort of veggie matter. Plus I picked up a package of chickie tits at Aldi last night - I need to get them wrapped and in the freezer.

And I just finished inventorying babby stuff - sheets, blankets, and onesies mostly. I’m going to quit buying things till he gets here. His other grandmother has likely started shopping and she tends to go crazier than I do. My daughter can decide what stays here and what she’ll take home. I’ve already designated a drawer in the guest room for Roxy, and now one for Toby.

OK, FCD is napping. I’m going to read for a while.

16 spoons missing from my silverware set. 16! I believe most (or all) are in my son’s room. :unamused:

I’m sorry to say (for the other side of the window) that this is not unusual.

flipper the AC situation sucks. I commiserate.

flyboy the sailing adventures sound awesome. I shall admit to jealousy.

I thought it was a blessing of the animals day, not a terrorizing of the animals day.

Or red Miss Red!

talky kids are fun. kids are fun. Just keep repeating it. :stuck_out_tongue:

Bumba I’m so sorry about your friend. Peace and strength to him in hospice.

Today I finished up everything required for our refinance. It goes to underwriting today and signing should be middle of next week. Phew! Nice to get that done.

'Beamette is off seeing the Pompeii exhibit in SF, with her grandmother and cousins. I asked for pictures. The first one she sent me is an exhibit out front memorializing shooting victims. It was sobering.

I have made a pot roast and slapped it in the slow cooker, so dinner is covered. I need more slow cooker recipes.

Happy Firday all!

My late mom gave me a 6-inch Griswold cast-iron frying pan. I don’t use it because it’s too small. But today I wanted a scrambled egg, and Mi Esposa didn’t. Why not use the Griswold? I don’t know where mom got it, but it may have belonged to her mother. It’s perfectly seasoned. Absolutely no stickage.

I told Mrs. L.A. that I’d used it, and that it’s slicker than snot. She said, 'You just had to work out a way to use “slicker than snot”, didn’t you?"

Well, no truck until Moonday.

Lucy’s dad told me I should ask Lily’s mom to pick us up in the morning and take us to the park with her. She drives right past my street. I feel awkward asking her, even though I’d happily do it for her.

MetalMouse, my son is giving me his paychecks to put towards the bills.
He wants to pay off the house, I’m still keeping his pay in the bank. We’ll see. I don’t really need it, but I think he should contribute something. Paying off the house would be a good thing, since it’s going to be his house anyway.

Mowage achieved, could almost be regarded as haying! It was getting pretty shaggy and there’s been rain every time I had, well, time, to do it. I snuck it in between getting home from the shop and the more rain later this evening, and projected for all weekend.

flyboy My go to is “slicker’n whale snot.” For some reason that seems less gross, but probably isn’t. I do remember a whale watch back in grade school where a whale pooped right beside the boat. Very impressive amount of brown water.

My kids’s Montessori was in public school but not in our neighborhood~a pilot program of a particularly brave principal, that was so successful in terms of student outcomes that it didn’t outlast that principal’s retirement. Both mine were learning disabled but ended up flourishing, learning to read in 4th or 5th grade of Montessori, to both go on as Regents Scholars with University full rides. They still seek out their teacher every few years to go visit her to thank her, after 25 years. They cry and hug. Emily has Harriet in a lab preschool and I am sure when she starts kindergarten it will be Montessori based. Roxy will love her preschool and she’ll learn rings around the rest. She’s the ‘noodle cake’ kid after all!

Evening all. After finally bathing and eating (like Oopsie I didn’t have any appetite and didn’t eat until after 3pm)…I watched some TV and now am back to my internetting. Dinner, such as it is, will be late. Didn’t nap today, so I expect to sleep well tonight. Up to 63 boys for 7U soccer, now just need to find all the coaches we need.

Weather guys must be doubling down, they say 66% chance of rain tonight, 77% tomorrow, and 55% tomorrow night. Wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t get a drop.

VanGo, welcome to the mowed lawn club. Of course, in 7-10 days we’ll have to do it again…

Sari, never doubted that he contributed to the household, just funnin’ ya.

Flyboy, glad the pan was such a pleasant surprise.

Sunny, congrats on the re-finance. And hope the Pompeii exhibit is good, that’s on my bucket list of places I want to see (maybe 2022…).

{{Bumba}} for your friend. I hope he lives well for the time he has.

shoe, glad the check came. May the other wolves become confused on the way to your home.

OK, back to internettin’. Tomorrow is Sattiday, isn’t it? (I’ve had a heck of a time this week remembering what day of the week it is…)

Shoe, happy to hear you got paid!

But what’s with all this anti-wolf sentiment around here? We need to eat, too, yanno! :wolf:
