Mrs. L.A. went out to visit a patient this morning, and he wasn’t there. A relative just called to let her know that he’d died a couple of days ago. Mrs. L.A. is crying a little.
The patient’s sweet kitty is going to New Mexico, by prior arrangement.
ETA: We’re going to go down the beach for dinner tonight. Mrs. L.A. says she needs to get out. I’ll walk down (one mile), and Mrs. L.A. will drive. She’ll give me a ride back, as she doesn’t think I’ll want to walk after a couple of beers.
I am tired. I think the second dose shenanigans roused the lupus fatigue. I really want to lie around all day, but that’s not good for me, so I’ll force myself out the door for a walk in a bit.
Thanks for the support. I’m starting to pick up the pieces. I called an old friend for advice. He has experience in this specific situation, and I could trust his tough talk. Also, he owes me one…a big one. However, I think his wife is very ill, and I have a feeling he won’t be getting back to me. So…hoping the answer will drop on my head like an anvil.
FCM, what about an edible fruit arrangement? It might be a nice break from the cookies and candy they usually get, and even the diet-conscious nurses could enjoy it. Just an idea.
flyboy, sorry about Mrs. L.A.'s patient. Sounds like dinner down the beach would be a good way to lift her spirits.
wordy, I think you’ll be great. I doubt experience matters as much as having a sharp mind, which you do. I get the tired-of-talking feeling. I used to come home from work so sick of my own voice, I didn’t want to hear it when I thought, if that makes sense. Hope you get a nice, long revenge run later on.
BooFae, that recycled stuff can work two ways. I had a principal who used the same evals every year.
Home, at last. FCD was with his physical therapist when I arrived, and he walked about 200 feet around the hall - not bad less than 24 hours after surgery. He had lunch, then settled back in bed. He was definitely glad to get his glasses.
I got him set up with his tablet and laptop, got his phone charged, and brought a big bag of mini candy bars as nurse bribes. The first 2 nurses that came in don’t do sugar. What is wrong with those people???
I was there just under 3 hours. His day nurse came in and drugged him up, and he was getting dopey, so I left to give him a chance to sleep. Plus it allowed me to miss rush hour traffic around the beltway - another win.
Barring something unforeseen, he’ll be coming home on Firday. Rather than going to rehab, they’ll send a PT to the house for a few visits until he can go to a local PT facility. And he realized that he can’t do the physical stuff in his shop like he used to do, which is a relief. He was looking at portable gantry cranes to lift and move material - huzzah!!
He also talked to his surgeon about his staff - specifically the woman who answered the phone and wouldn’t allow him to talk to a medical person. Our doctor had the same problem! Had he not gotten in there right away, he likely would have had permanent damage - maybe even paralysis. So apparently the doc had a come-to-Jesus meeting with his staff. Seriously - she said the soonest he could see the doc was May 3!!! < smh >
Anyway, I’m home and I’ll be here tomorrow with the toddler. Not sure what time he’ll be discharged, but I’m pretty sure it’ll be later rather than early. I kinda hope they hold off till Saturday, but we’ll see. Meanwhile, I have some leftovers warming up in the toaster oven, and I’m hoping to chill a bit. It’s been a day.
Howdy Y’all! I got doctored (she changed my BP med to one she feels will be better even if it is the color of green mold), accomplished church janitor Junior Warden duties, made a trip to Sam’s to gas up twuck and procure a few comestibles, plus tp, achieved nappage, and then we went to the Mexican place and et. OLÈ!
MOOOOOOM glad FCD is startin’ to be on the mend. Sometimes folks just need to be pointed toward Jesus, so good for that doctor.
{{{Tugig}}}!!! I tell ya, we scored big with our family doc - she’s our favoritest person in the world!! If not for her, who knows what might have happened.
FCD’s new walker/wheelchair combo came today - it’s pretty nice and I think it’ll be really hand when he gets his knees done. Plus I can see it being useful as we both age. Glad I ordered it when I did - the price went up $13 since last week!!
Leftovers have been ingested. I think it’s time for some chillage.
Moooooom, glad FCD is progressing well. As far as bribes go, I found out long ago, that if you can make your nurses and techs laugh, they’ll bring you popscicles at 2:00 a.m. if you ask for one.
metal mouse, welcome to the world of old people drugs (your two are on my list too, one of which I’ll be picking up Friday).
nut, I miss the funky colors too.
swampy, your use of jerk a knot reminded me of my mother. She used to threaten (and sometimes deliver) to jerk a knot in our tails on a regular basis.
I’m sorry about Mrs.LA’s patient flyboy.
Spent the day catching up on online classes for irk due 23 April. One was truly sucky, one I learned a little from, one I learned a little more from and one I learned a lot from. Bonus points for actually completing April’s safety training.
When I was making my evening cocktail, I dropped an ice cube. Nelson played hockey with it until it melted. I played goalie (had to keep it from landing in the net, ie the carpet.
If you just experienced a sudden gust of wind, it was my sigh of relief. My crusty friend called. Short conversation, as his phone was about to die, but we’re going to talk at length soon. In the meantime, he gave me some tough, no-nonsense encouragement. I’m relieved.
I did not get out for the walk. I’m usually good at talking myself past stuff like fatigue, but I just couldn’t do it today. Hopefully tomorrow.
I think I’ll sit on my balcony and savor the woods.
FCM, so glad your honey is on the mend. And kudos to you both on speaking up to FCD’s surgeon about his office staff. I’ve run into something similar a couple of times, and it can be a serious issue.
red, I tell myself an ice cube sent skittering under the fridge leaves a swath of clean under there. Canine field hockey sounds like more fun and better logic. Who won?
Evening all. Slothful afternoon but I did get out and watch some of the 6-year olds practice–that’s fun for them, they don’t know much soccer but they get to run around and kick a ball, and that makes them happy. Also had the lawn aerated (big ol’ tractor) and I have an appointment tomorrow to get my Air Conditioner checked and made ready for the hot months which should be coming soon. Also did some dickering regarding soccer, since tunder-boomers are predicted for most of Saturday and we’ll be rained out.
So I guess not that much sloth. Will try to do better tomorrow…
FCM, good news on the FCD front, hope he remembers his promises to take it easy and do the PT.
flyboy, hope Mrs. LA is feeling better. And what’s wrong with French Fries?
nellie, hope you have a good conversation on what’s bothering you with Trusted Friend.
talky, don’t know anything about Biggleworth, but I have a good friend living in Biggleswade (England).
OK, need to go watch Pardon the Interruption for my daily dose of Nort Spews. Take care all.
Nurses that don’t do sugar? What’s the world come to?
When my late husband had his various stays on oncology floors, I’d bring a bag of candy or one of those picnic sacks of about 48 mini bags of assorted chips for the nursing staff. Between that and just the decency of saying please and thank you, you’d think we owned the hospital by how they treated us. I don’t know about Maryland, but nursing floors here run on chocolate.
This nurse ran (and still does) on chocolate-those mixed bags of Hershey or Mars bars (the little mini-bars) are the perfect, no fail gift. If a nurse doesn’t eat sugar, s/he can always enjoy taking one home to her kids or sweetie or roommate.
The box of chips/snacks is also genius, BTW. Throw in a big bag of cheese sticks and you’d own any unit you got near. Be sure to present them after the 7-3 shift has left, us evening and night people never get anything otherwise
@BippityBoppityBoo
Considering that I have no sweet tootrh I did not think of chocolate for the nurses. A couple of hours after my recent surgery I did tell one nurse that I would give her a hundred dollars for a glass of ice water. She did not accept.
I disliked getting up early enough to drag to irk anyway. Got there and sup seemed to think she needed to talk to people older than she is like toddlers. Had one member of our team in tears (she really needs to learn to keep scoldings private and not indulge in public shaming), and me very nearly walking out for the day, if not for good.
By afternoon, I was thinking that might well have been my best move. This afternoon “featured” rollout of major revision of crucial required software. Apparently, we’re the test guinea pigs (squeak squeak), since it really doesn’t seem like much testing got done before this got inflicted on the peons. Not QUITE as bad as the steaming pile that was the website revisions, at least not so far. Could get worse, for all I know.
The brain donors among the co-irkers keep getting dumber, too. MUST make a getaway somehow.
Currently ingesting BooBerry cereal for dinner (yes, with milk). Might talk myself into an apple or banana later.
