My longest single thread was “World of Warcraft questions”, which topped out at 1,416 posts. We shut it down and started a new one because the post-count had gotten so high, and we thought it was “intimidating” for new readers. The joke was on us, because the “sequel” thread:
Since all four threads have effectively been one ongoing discussion, I suppose you could say I’m responsible for prompting 26,214 posts on the same topic
I amuse myself from time to time by going back and reading through the first few pages of the first thread to remind myself just what noob I was when I started the thread.
I didn’t note the number of replies but it went on for a few days, something about Uses for Duct Tape. Man, there were some amazing posts! I enjoyed it.
Too lazy to look it up, but I had an "ugly saggin’ pants " thread several years ago, I think it went 8 or 9 pages? Maybe more, but that’s the longest one I can remember the basic gist of. There was one, (and DAMN you old age memory), that was on something completely random and (I woulda thought) uninteresting and mundane, that for some reason carried on into the double digits. ISTR some of the comments even being along the lines of “I expected this thread to sink like a stone, yet here it is on page 12”.
I’m beyond boggled that the thread I started on March 26, 2009, Stupid Republican idea of the Day, is still going strong, with (as of my look just now) 12,197 Replies and 1,030,471 Views. I have the maximum number of posts per page set and it’s still up to 61 pages. I’m not even the one keeping it alive since my last post was in July. Amazing.
I’m happy to saythis one is still on the first page after 2,355 replies.
It happens to be 10 times longer than the next most popular thread I started, which happened to be an earlier version of the same thing that ran out of gas.
