Other than on-going game threads or discussions, what were the longest and shortest threads you ever started?
Discounting monthly baseball discussion threads and a current Mornington crescent thread I inadvertantly started, my longest (and most viewed) thread was a call-out of Catsix in The Pit. 373 posts, 12, 676 views. My shortest was a question on menopause that garnered zero responses and only 80 views in 6 years.
Dunno about shortest, but my longest-runnibng one was definately Not Coming To A Theater Near You. Ironically, it took so long for someone to r eply at first that I thought it would drop out of sight unaswered.
Instead of “Said” had 557 posts, 6487 views and showed how creative Dopers can be.
My post with the most views is from Great Debates: Harriet Miers? which had 11, 828 views but only 476 posts.
I’ve had a lot of zero responses thread but the one with the least views was in IMHO When Do You Think The War Will End? It’s from 2003 and only had 33 views when I did the search. I’m a bit surprised that no one participated in that one. Other more esoteric topics are less surprising.
In my 11 years here, I have had 121 OPs that didn’t get a single resonse. Of those, 23 were in GQ:confused:
The one with the fewest views was a question asking for a movie id, which I have asked numerous times over the years on various websites, and so far have drawn a blank.
I’m surprised, but I haven’t started any threads that have gotten 0 replies.
My stats say I only started 50 threads since I joined in July of 2005, with the first one in June of 2006, but I know I started threads before then. I also noticed that quite a few threads I’ve posted in a number of years ago are also gone. (??) I remember the board having some database issues a number of years ago, and recall some discussions about data loss, so perhaps none of our current stats are correct.
I received only 1 reply in this thread, but that was from the moderator admonishing me not to post in Japanese, who then closed the thread.
Threads I start that have the highest views and posts tend to be political in GD and the Pit, with my longest thread having 309 posts, and my second longest thread, with 247 posts having the highest number of views with 7,970.
According to the current stats, I’ve started 19 Great Debate threads, 12 Mundane and Pointless threads, 7 Pit threads, 6 Humble Opinion threads, 5 Cafe Society threads, and 1 General Questions thread.
I was surprised to find that I only have a couple of zero-response threads, including one I started in 2003 to inform the SDMB that the Whatsit family was pulling up stakes and moving from Seattle to Ohio, which was met with resounding crickets.
My 0 reply thread with the fewest views was an observation of sequential programs on an Electronic Program Guide. The longest was a thread looking for the answer to a riddle which reached 443 replies and nearly 47,000 views before being locked.
Some interesting things I learned from looking at threads I started: I only had three threads out of 73 OPs that had no responses. (Unfortunately for me two were recent requests for help on learning Catalan and finding RibbonX macros, and I still haven’t found resources for either.) But more interesting was this innocuous thread from September 2000. That last respondent and I would meet up four years later and get married.
My record from another board is one I’m rather proud of: 1,649 responses…in under 24 hours!
Gone into the depths of time but back in the earlier days for the vBB board, I posted a GQ asking about glass as a liquid and citing a column Cecil had done. That one got plenty of attention and love, culminating in a post by Cecil and eventually a mention on the SD site not to ask about glass as a liquid in GQ.
No idea about my shortest thread but I’m sure I have plenty of one-post wonders out there.
Longest by far was Sarah Turns Opaque, with 527 responses and 27,308 views. The next closest had about 5,000 views and it drops off rapidly after that. Lots of zero response threads.
