Here again. Back from the science centre and haven’t killed the kids. I’m kind of tired and should be prepping dinner now so I don’t order pizza tonight.
Happy Tuesday!
Back from the dentist. When I got home I got the mail. There was a bill, from the dentist. I thought: “Wow! That was fast!”
Actually, it seems to be for something earlier, though I don’t know what, and the bill doean’t say.
I’m being stared at by a Schnauzer who thinks left-over sloppy joes is more enticing than dog food. Not by much, but he doesn’t know that.
Ya’ll be careful out there.
I hate head colds, but at least the weather sucks so I don’t feel like I’m missing out on a sunny day.
Spaz, duck isn’t all that much of a rarity for us. There’s a place about 5 minutes away where I can get fresh quackers, so every so often, it’s a Sunday meal. Simplest bird there is to roast:
The Catman’s Duck
- hack duck in half.
B) wash, make slits in skin so the fat can get out, salt liberally. - put duck on a rack in a roasting pan in a 450 oven for 15 minutes, then turn down for the last 90-100 minutes at 325.
B.1) During the last half hour, glaze with with whatever is in your pantry that sounds like it will make a yummy glaze. Sundays was extra strong black tea, honey, orange rind and blackberry jam, slowly cooked down to a glaze.
Duxk is my favorite bird because it’s all dark meat, the skin is amazingly tasty, and cut in half like that it’s the perfect serving size.

There was an article in this week’s liberal rag about a real honest-to-Dios taqueria at the flea market in Airport Town. There was mention of goat stew in the article. A poll has been taken in the living room and there is interest in goat stew. We may have to make a trip to the flea market.
Threats of rain today. I know it’s likely true because my right knee and my left hip have both decided to throb today. I’m not old enough to have twinges in my hinges! Completely ignoring the fact that I’ve had arthritis in one knee for twenty years after I tore it up falling on nothing in the back yard.
MRI was today on my knee. Follow up is in 2 weeks for them to tell me how badly it is messed up and what they need to do to fix it.
Is it Friday yet?
Back in Houston, and back to work tomorrow. Boo.
Running late checking in here today 'cause I’s been bizzy!! I ran by the grocery store on the way home since I decided I wanted hot dogs for supper. Once I got home, I got my miracle grow feeder and watered/fed my veggie patch and my 2 flower gardens in back. Then groomed a wandering jew that I’d been neglecting - I’m growing a mess of cuttings now. Then I made supper - weenies, beans, and salad. And after we ate, I got the dishes rinsed and loaded into the dishwasher. Somewhere in there, **FCD **came home and mowed the back yard.
He leaves for PA tomorrow - visiting a machine shop they use, and then his company’s Johnstown facility. He’s taking his new engineer along to introduce her around and get her some training. Actually, she’s taking him - she volunteered to drive. So yay for that. He’ll get home late Friday, so I’ll be without adult supervision for a while. Woohoo!
It’s clouding over and from the look of the weather radar, a storm is headed our way. Glad the grass is mowed.
That’s all for now. It’ll be another melatonin night - I kept waking up last night and I’m dragging still.
Hugs, gropes, and butt pinches all around!!
Hurlooo. I’m sorry about your wife, Bob. I often wonder if i have lupus…or maybe just a 24 hour tumor. :o My friend has lupus and she’s 32 and she’s been in the hospital 2x since the fall. I feel for you!! Hugs your way!
I feel like super rotten shit right now. My hands are swollen, my eyes look all shrunken in, I have zero appetite but I have been hydrating. No one answered me in my GQ thread, so the Google Gods must not have an answer, either.
Zapped of energy…as usual. I really wanted to start that quilt.
Think I’ll have a West Wing marathon (I’m on Season 6) and lay low. Literally. My legs are too achy for movement anywho.
//end complaining
I love Easter candy. It’s why God made the Easter Bunny. You know. For the rest of us. (:
Man with a Cat, I hope it works out! xo your way.
I’m alive and kickin’. I’ve been busy, busy, busy.
I’ve managed to survive another day in my office and did it without killing anyone.
I hope your cold goes away soonest, CatMan.
The weather is the same as it ever was; cold and rainy. We’ve had exactly one day of spring.
One of our branch chiefs gave me a chocolate Easter bunny. I eyed that temptation all day long, but did not eat any of it. I wonder how long I’ll be able to hold off before I bite the ears off.
I suppose I should check out the dinner situation. Wait…check that. I know what I’m making for dinner. I’m going to reheat the pot roast leftovers from yesterday.
Hope you feel better soon, CP.
Nice to see you stop by again, janis.
We’ll want to know exactly which shawls you took along, Shadow. Hope you have a great time!
Duck recipe has been added to the blog. The poultry people at the market have ducks (the restaurant side of them makes stuff that’s fried in duck fat IIRC) and might even hack one in half for me. We made duck Christmas Eve once in Germany and were amazed at the amount of grease. Wish we’d known the hacking and slitting tricks.
There are lots of decent taquerias in Columbus these days - well many of them are trucks, but still. I’ve only been to one of them. Keep meaning to get to more of them because they sound nummy.
So, is Knoebels opening important, ruble? Cuz it’s hard to tell.
I’m tired because - once again - I fell asleep pretty late last night. I’ma knit for a while and then try to fall asleep. Maybe by 10:30 even.
Hope all the sickies feel better soon.
I’m sure I’m forgetting something…
Hugs.

Good vibes for your mom and watch the deer in WVa – they seem more active along the highways than most springs.
If he ever gets the chance to grab a dinner around Altoona I highly recommend Jethro’s Fine Italian – And Ribs. OK - its an odd name and combination but the food is fantastic!
I hate to say this but our family understands that if anything terrible happens around Opening Weekend or Phunfest freezers are the best plan. Because I don’t think either of us would miss those even for the death of our most dearly beloved. And as for each other ----- I could have sworn she was still alive when I left the garage. That’s my story and I’ll stick with it.
Woohoo ---- page two!!!
Morning everyone! I’m back from sunny Hungary, where it was beautifully sunny and I have some lovely red skin to show for it. We had a great time with our friends and once again, 'im indoors has come home with a big idea to buy a house over there. I wonder how long it will take for me to talk him out of that idea and remind him about all the work that needs to be done on the house he’s got here?
Busy day today though - I have been to the doc’s this morning, come home and put my washing outside to dry, off to fetch the fuzzbutts from the moggery next, then grocery shopping. The glazers are coming this afternoon with our new back door, then I have to go and feed my friends’ cat and ferrets before coming home to cook dinner later. After that, I plan a long soak in the bath.
Back to irk tomorrow for one day, the a four-day weekend which is the only good thing about this soddin’ wedding lark. Bunch of inbred freeloaders…and that’s just the twunts who’ll be tuning in to watch every last second of it. Coverage starts at 6am for an 11am service? As if we want to watch hours of Eamonn Holmes pontificating about it all…well, I certainly have far better things to do with my day off.
Here very early. Damn cat woke me up. Morning.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin and cloudy out. We are promised tstorms this evenin’. Big ones even. I’ll believe it when I see it. I want tstorms!
BooFae I was readin’ your post and thinkin’, “wow, she really does not want to go to that friend’s weddin’” and then I remembered it’s that weddin’.
Heh, for those over heah who have a desire to watch it, the weddin’ itself will be at 6 a.m. I cannot even begin to imagine why anybody would be glued to the teevee for that, but folks were when Charles and Diana got married and also for Diana’s funeral so I guess folks will watch at six a.m. Not me though. Even though I will be up, ummm… no offense but I couldn’t care less. Of course you couldn’t care less either so I reckon we agree.
Now I go to seek more caffiene and some brekkie for a very rumbly tummy. Then I shall purtify for irk, alas.
Happy Hump Day Y’all!
As far as I’m concerned, Willie and Kate should go the the JotP and leave us alone.
VWife incessantly drills in to me the minutiae of all things NASCAR and NFL, and now is doing the same for this damned wedding. I. Don’t. F*ing. Care.
Blurf.
Tomorrow, I take VWife to Hampton (VA) for a doctor’s appointment, then we head to VunderLair Mk. I to do some stuff. We’ll spend the night in Suffolk, and get home before noon. The beauty in all this is we’ll miss having the royal wedding blown up our asses by the networks cuz we’ll be on the road. I’m also sure she’ll try to find coverage on a Sirius station.
Good morning, happy Hump day today! I’m up and caffeinating even if I’m running a bit late. LOL
Good to see you back, BooFae and glad you had a good vacay. I confess to watching the Charles/Diana wedding and Diana’s funeral, but I swear, cross-my-heart, I won’t watch any of the William/Kate spectacle. Okay, maybe just a bit.
My brain is a swiss cheese this morning. Hope that everyone is doing well, glad if you are, and keeping you in my thoughts if you need it and even if you don’t. Special healing vibes to the Vonder’s. And LiLi, any update on the cat that is missing but has been seen?
Have a good day all - I’m having on off-day, sight-wise; can’t see very well with my good eye.
Morning! My son got a nice little nod in the town newspaper for his first start this year on the school golf team. His score was what gave them the, giving them a winning record to date. Pretty cool.
Busy day today… I can haz weekend plz?
Yep. The cat who was missing is living a full and happy life three blocks down from us and doesn’t want to be anyone’s pet anymore. Just last night the people who’ve been feeding him asked Mr. Lissar to give up. Well, they didn’t say that exactly, but they did say “Please take your cat carrier back, we’re never going to catch him, and he’s happy.”
So, I doubt his life will be long but he’s extremely fixed and fairly happy. I’m grateful. I didn’t want him back at this point- what would it be like reintegrating a feral cat with two grabby kids?
I have 3 cats, and I’d love to know how you convinced your’s to run away so I can try it myself. Bonus if the root cause does not involve toddlers, since I’m fresh out of those…
