And now ladies and gentlemen of the MMP I bring you today’s must have as seen on tv product, the one and only furniture fix! Hilarious ad! They have a 600 lb sumo wrestler and a 400 lb sumo wrestler sit on a sofa after they put down the “furniture fix” and LOOK! THE SOFA DOES NOT SAG!!!. I’m still gigglin’. Even OYKW in all his sickiness got the giggles over that.
[/QUOTE]
Giggle all you want, but we’re borrowing a couch that sags and we’ve half-seriously thought of trying that thing. More likely, we’ll just slip in a sheet of masonite.
Had another dismal yard sale today. Made a whole $99, which just isn’t worth it once you account for all the time it takes to haul things out to the driveway, and then to haul them off to Goodwill or the dump afterward. I think next time, we’ll just skip the hassle and go directly to the dump.
Anybody got an EKG print I can borrow? The collection of stuff DH needs before he can be considered for surgery is getting weird. The doc wants to see a chest x-ray and an EKG, as long as it’s less than six months old. If it’s really that important, why doesn’t he order them directly? Otherwise, how do you know who it actually belongs to? I’ve got an x-ray, but there’s no name on it.
New solar lights are out in the front yard and charging in the beautiful sunny day we have, I found the other string of solar lights for the fence in the back yard that I may have ‘misplaced’ last summer (aka put away in a tidy and secure place then forgot where that was) and put those out, swept the back patio, took stuff to Goodwill, grabbed a delicious sammich for lunch, ran to the bank and got cash to pay the cat sitter for next week, picked up the dry cleaning, changed the cat box and mopped the floor in the cat bathroom and vacuumed the house. Now I am bored.
You have a very busy social life, rebo! I like that!
I’m glad the air got cleared a little with your daughter, FCM. You’re right; parenting can be tough, but sometimes you just have to let them make dumb mistakes in hopes they’ll learn. Yeah, I’m one to talk; I’m constantly trying to make sure mine don’t, and I just hate any confrontation with my kids. Thankfully, it’s a rare occurrence for us.
I drove to Best Buy and picked up an all in one cheapie HP printer. I bought it mainly because we need to scan some documents to send off to the bank my son is trying to get a student loan through. Frankly, we needed a printer downstairs anyway. I have a fairly old HP photosmart printer upstairs, but my son uses it and it’s a pain the ass going up there any time I need to print something.
We’re going to visit our friends tonight and they ask us to bring our dogs. They’re huge dog lovers and have two of their own. I hope the dogs can get along. We’re going to walk them all first so they can get used to each other in neutral territory. If it doesn’t work out, we’ll bring the dogs back home and head back over to our friends. I hope it does work, because that’s just a huge waste of gas. I’d like for my dogs to be more socialized so don’t have to leave them here so often.
Me too! Featuring Nixie and Callie relaxing in the sun.
High winds locally on Thursday - at one point there was a PA announcement advising us not to leave the building as there were bits blowing off the building across the street. Saw two trees down on houses and one blocking a street on the way home later, and a number of houses and the local church had lost sections of shingles.
A friend was taken to hospital last week after suffering a mild stroke, and was supposed to be released this Wednesday, but they kept him. I was pleasantly surprised when I went to our gaming group meeting yesterday evening and he showed up a few minutes later. He’s pretty much fully recovered except for more reliance on his cane than usual.
Already done! (I only realized a couple of months ago that *anyone *could vote for their favourite lolcats :smack: and have been merrily voting - and cussing the “reward” popups - ever since.)
Goodness - is everyone sleeping in today? We’ve been to breakfast and back (the new Cracker Barrel still has terrible service), I’ve loaded towels into the washer, cleaned some carpet spots (stoopit Scruffy) and unloaded the kiln.
This was my worst load ever. Fully half of the pieces have cracks. I had bad thickness control resulting in stress cracks between thick and thin sections. Luckily, the dish I wanted to give my sister for her anniversary is OK, as is the flower pot. And the cats I made for my other sister are OK. But mostly, not my best work. I’m too far out of practice, I fear.
Apart from laundry, I think the dog will get a bath today. Beyond that, I have no plans. Maybe I’ll reconstitute some clay. Or not. I don’t know.
**CatDude **- that’s one of those mysteries of the universe…
**FCD **is napping. Towels are in the dryer and next load is in the washer. I was thinking how nice it was not being attacked by Cozmo when I go downstairs. Much as I hate the circumstances, in some ways, I’m glad daughter is moving out. And it’s not like she’s moving to Siberia…
At breakfast, we were discussing how we will attack the basement to turn it back into a workshop. The monster walk-in closet will become a paint spraybooth. The bathroom will stay intact. The walls forming the living room and kitchen will go away, along with the big storage closet under the stairs. What will remain will be a big open space. Daughter will be brought in to help paint, since she picked the garishly bright colors on the walls. White will reign.
But that won’t happen for a few months. And if she decides she needs to move back in for a short time, she’ll get one of the 2 spare bedrooms…
I’ve been up since around 6:30 or so, and awake since about 5:30.
The dogs did really well over at our friends’ house with their dogs, Wilma and Betty. Much butt sniffing and exploring occurred. Our dogs were absolutely exhausted when we got home last night around midnight.
My son texted me while we were at our friends house to let me know he had wiped out hard on his longboard and had road rash.
My God, he tore his elbow up but good! His whole right hip area is one large abrasion and his back, shoulder and one of his knees are tore up too.
I cleaned all the wounds this morning first aid foaming disinfectant and got the remaining grit out. I then redressed the wounds. I asked him why the hell he wasn’t wearing protective gear and stressed it could have been much worse; he could have hit his head! All I got him from the typical 18 year old young man reply.
Anyway, I’ll check all the wounds again this afternoon and change any dressings that need it.
My daughter is coming down today because she managed to lose her cell phone while hunting morels. She’s had it a good long time, so I’m not too upset at her losing it. She slid/tumbled down a small hill and that’s when she lost her phone. She’s upset at losing her pictures of Captain because she hadn’t put them all on her computer.
We’ll drive to the AT&T store and see about getting a replacement.
The sun is out, so I’m hoping we’ll get some yardwork done too.
Howdy all! I guess Swampy is having a good time, being that he’s helping to celebrate Mother’s Day early this year and is thus off making sure his Mom is having a good day.
I just don’t have much to talk about lately, I guess. I wish my son were back home; hopefully he’ll be able to at least visit for a bit but will be heading back to grad school and taking classes this summer. I really want to retire, but can’t afford to. FCM, I guess your DoD (?) component hasn’t gone to the e-OPF yet? My agency went several years back; to get to your OPF (official personnel folder), you just go on line … of course with a login ID and password, naturally. D’OH!
Everyone wants to be chiefs and no-one wants to be the lower guys. All the administrative support work has changed, sometimes quite drastically, in the last 10-20 years. I don’t want to be a chief, believe me, but I would like to be able to make enough pay to be able to retire and not have to worry about if I’m going to have enough money to live, buy medicine, and food. Gah. Yeah, that’s what’s been worrying me these days. Sorry!
I meant to tell y’all - I watching this on Animal Planet last night and surprised myself with how loudly and often I squee’d - I think Smokey was jealous.
**rosie **- I watched that show too. It was especially neat since we had an abyssinian and we have a bengal.
**tarra **- our OPFs are held in Bremerton, Washington. Interesting that our HR is located on the other end of the country. I’m not sure why it worked out that way. But I should get to review it this week. It’ll be a walk down memory lane.
I baked a coupla dozen 'nanner muffins. I put cinnamon in them and it seemed to negate the 'nanner flavor. They’re tasty, but it is kinda weird.
And I’ve started another baby afghan. I’m trying to use up all my yarn scraps and I’ve got 3 partial skeins of baby colors that I intend to convert to a small blanket.
Daughter is on her way home. It’s been a grey, dreary afternoon, and rain is on its way. Lazy lazy day.
And on that note, I think I’ll turn this machine off and veg the day away.
Wow, FCM, that’s just too ironic about your OPF. Bremerton isn’t especially far from me. Well, it’s across the Narrows Bridge and generally a pain to get to, but’s it not super far from me.
My OPF is located across the country from me.
I took my daughter to get a replacement phone today and then stopped by Safeway to pick up a few things.
The hubby and my daughter’s boyfriend are out there making burgers for lunch. Works for me. Wish we could grill them, but we’re out of propane.
We had a great time visitatin’ my family. We stayed up way too late at sis’s place drinkin’ beerverages however. Ok, I drank a lot but OYKW did not as he feared drinkin’ much after just gettin’ over that stomach bug thing. That means he got to drive home and I got to nap. Win-win for me!
The thirteen year cicadas have invaded ye olde hometowne. Dang those things are loud! There’s woods behind sis’s house just full of ‘em. Seriously, we were out on her deck and it sounded like a bunch of diesel engines idlin’. Then when it started to get dark they stopped. Just think there’s two more weeks of that to go yet. So, I’ll get cicada serenaded next weekend too!
MOOOOOOM sorry about the daughter troubles. Maybe she’ll learn. Good on y’all for lettin’ her know she’s on her own with this one. Good thoughts for her comin’ to her senses soon or for this one to turn out to be alright.
Taters I bought a cheapo HP printer four and a half years ago from :eek:Wally*World:eek: and it’s been the best printer I have ever had. The two expensive ones played out after a little over two years each. This one just plugs along! Also, your son will not be a human being for at least another four years. That’s why he did not wear protective gear. It’s male adolesence. It is totally inexplicable and has to be endured until it goes away. Sorry.
Ok, I’s hongry. What to eat. Also dryer is tellin’ me a load of clothes is done.
