The Invisible Man(the one with Vincent Ventresca and Paul Ben-Victor)
Now And Again
Now that we’ve passed the 100 posts point, perhaps it might be fun to look back at Which cancelled or defunct TV series do you miss most? from 04-05-2008 just to see the changes in tastes and preferences in a 4-year span.
What strikes you as the most surprising of those changes?
I still miss Northern Exposure, with Rob Morrow’s character in the cast of course. miss the feel of the show and the setting the most though.
I missed Taxi for a long time when it left. Let’s have a new Taxi show with all new drivers.
and would be fun to see some new Powerpuff Girls episodes.
But What I really miss is the people from Lost. Can’t we just erase that horrid final season and continue on?
Since I don’t think anyone’s mentioned, I’ll throw out The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.
A fun show that premiered alongside the X-Files, actually initially got better reviews than the X-Files, and about the same ratings as the X-Files, but while the X-Files was able to squeak into a second season by the skin of its teeth.
The above also wasn’t a knock at the X-Files, but I do think it’s worth noting that arguably the most culturally influential TV show of the 90s almost died off in its first season.
Imagine if Brisco County Jr. had been just a little luckier. Instead of having all the X-Files clones, steam punk might have become huge.
Another show from the 90s I’d like to see revived would be Dark Skies, which was quite similar to the X-Files.
That someone asked for Electric Company back, and got it.
It was a great show. I was really looking forward to seeing Brisco, Dixie, Bowler, and even Pete in a second season.
They don’t hate money. They hate the idea of paying Seinfeld-esque residuals to actors.
My contribution: Star Trek. Give me back my James T. Kirk on a galactic quest for green nookie, punctuated by hostile aliens with forehead ridges; keep your god-damned placeholders.
Sliders (in its Fox version, with the original actors, not the scifi channel monstrosity of the final season)
Journeyman
Sarah Connor Chronicles
Star Trek Enterprise
Mr. Show
Greg the Bunny
The Muppet Show
and I don’t think anyone’s mentioned it yet, but how about Firefly?
One source I saw said a possible development was BahRISSco and Dixie getting married and opening up a PI agency. Still looking for that Next Big Thing …
Sealab 2021
It never was better then when Harry Goz was alive. *Archer *is a more than worthy spiritual successor, though.
Yeah, whenever I watch Archer I get a bit wistful for Sealab 2021.
Shows that were awesome, but overstayed their welcome:
-Northern Exposure
-X-Files
-Twin PeaksWhat the OP asked:
-Another fan of G vs E
-Arressted Development
-Deadwood
Can we get Allison from Palmdale to do both?
And yeah, I was a bit surprised at how quickly Better Off Ted was cut. I don’t think it’s been so long you couldn’t revive it if someone really really wanted to.
TOS didn’t habe much in the way of forehead ridges – that was a feature of the later series. In OS even the Klingons had non-ridged heads, and most of the other aliens were very humanoid.
IIRC, though, there were at least two hot green alien women (although one of them went for Captain Pike, not Kirk), along with at least one blue one.
Sealab 2021 is unfortunately an example of what I mentioned earlier - a show that stayed on the air too long after it used up its original premise.
Monk. Especially since the writers weren’t allowed to play things out the way they really wanted to, which made the finale seem a bit rushed.
Am I the first to mention Friday Night Lights? My husband and I just wrapped up the series on Netflix with a few marathon viewings. Loved it! More Coach & Tami Taylor cannot be a bad thing.
Earth 2 - I really enjoyed that show.
The Class (a very funny comedy where we first met Jon Bernthal, before he became Ambigously Evil and then dead and then a zombie and then dead again. (You can watch the entire series on Youtube - it also has Mitchell from “Modern Family.”)
Maybe Firefly - I dunno. It was okay, I guess.
