I think they canceled Life too quickly. I find Damien Lewis mesmerizing. There’s no reason he couldn’t do another season of Life and still film Homeland as well.
Man From Atlantis
I’d love to have seen more of My So-Called Life. I tried to watch it again, though, and it didn’t sit the same with me for some reason. Maybe the fact that I’m more Patty than Angela now has something to do with it…
I’d also love more of the Chuck Jones Bugs Bunny cartoons, as well as Voltron, Thundercats and Jem. I’m dating myself again, aren’t I?
The Riches
Carnivale
I wish cartoon network would pick up Neighbors From Hell, with new episodes. And balls.
The Wire
Six Feet Under
Deadwood
Sopranos
Carnivale
Alias
Third Rock From The Sun
I would have loved to have seen more episodes of “Wonder Woman” (1975-1979)!
The writing could have been much better, but the visuals – Lynda Carter in that colorful, skimpy costume – were superb!
*Carnivale *is all about this for me–except it wasn’t even like I’d watched 3/4 of a movie. It was like I’d read the most amazing prologue to a novel ever, and then the author died. I so wish they’d let it be finished up in a comic book, a novel, whatever… but no hope of that now.
Ma-a-a-y-y-y-be.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure there ain’t gonna be any new Chuck Jones 'toons.
Just thought of one:
Men of a Certain Age
I thought it was poignant.
Invader Zim - I know the creator said Nickelodeon approached him about a revival after reruns got great ratings on the Nicktoons network, but apparently Nickelodeon chickened out again.
The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack had just hit its stride when it got the ax. Fortunately most of the crew ended up on either Adventure Time or Regular Show where they take the weirdness to even higher heights, which makes it OK to leave it be. It seems that reviving canceled animated shows with new crews usually doesn’t turn out too well (see last 2 seasons of Powerpuff Girls or Dexter’s Lab or post-Poof Fairly Oddparents)
Sports Night
Northern Exposure
News Radio
Thirtysomething
This thread is making me misty eyed. Sliders, Brisco County Jr, Better Off Ted, The Tick…
However, I guess it’s a testament to the SDMB’s demographic, that nobody’s mentioned Chappelle Show?
What about the recently ended Chuck? Outsourced?
I’ll also add The Critic, since that and the Tick go hand-in-hand in my book.
Man, the Chappelle Show was the candle that burned twice as bright. It’s not ever coming back though, as I don’t think Chappelle himself can ever again do what he did, nor would he want to. He could’ve wrote his own ticket - hell, he DID, as Comedy Central paid him a TON to keep making the show - but he’s hardly been heard from since he ran out. Such a shame on multiple levels.
I seem to remember much hubbub around here when he ditched the show and went off, and that it was well-liked. I see it as something that was ended by it’s creator, as opposed to ratings/schedule shuffling/outside forces, so I don’t yearn for ‘what might have been’, the way I do with so many other shows. It’s still a loss, but easier to come to terms with.
I can’t believe I’m the first to mention Firefly.
You must have one bodacious Ignore List!
Of those that haven’t been mentioned: Danny Phantom was pretty good. But the big one I’d want is Quantum Leap, even if only for one more season. The ending just sucked so bad.
There also was this one show about this girl who couldn’t die or get hurt fighting other people who would get strange poweres that I think should have went on.
To which I’ll add:
**- Parker Lewis Can’t Lose
- The Adventures of Brisco County Jr**
And probably a few others I’ve forgotten. We remember the good episodes with fondness, forgetting the post-sharkjump shows and the slow slide into mediocrity and crapitude. Hell, Twin Peaks should have been a one-season show and remained a wonderfully weird memory. Instead, someone got greedy and the viewers got pissed off.
That makes about three people total who liked it. Apart from the X-Files parody episode it was a pointless mess and deserved to die.
Yeah, this is my view as well. It breaks my heart. Although if Joss wanted to do the odd TV movie to fill in back story I wouldn’t complain too loudly…
I don’t understand why this hasn’t been done already, instead of the “remake”. It’s a perfect set-up for a “continuation”. It’s weird, paranoid, a bit fun, and with CGI effects and some more coherent writing you could riff off the original show and make something great. I am disappointed.
Oh yes please.
Oh yes please again. It ended with “You’re damned to Hell and you’re damned to Hell and God actively intervened to make this happen but don’t worry, becuase he has a Big Secret Plan to make everything okay!” If I wanted to have faith that there was a great ineffable purpose to the universe I’d be religious. Finish the damn story!
I’m going to add one more: Murder One. Sadly it launched against ER (IIRC) and got killed in the ratings despite both a very good first season (devoted to one case) and second season (new leads, multiple cases).
Ted’s dead, baby. I also think the show was headed toward shark jumpage but the sudden tragic death of Dermot Morgan right after filming the last series pretty much ensured that they went out on a high note. Also, Graham Linehan then went on to write for Black Books and The IT Crowd so it’s not all bad.
Yes!
[del]That would be an ecumenical matter![/del] Yes!
A clear example of the danger of bringing back shows from the dead. Have you seen the new version? It’s horrible - it’s like the love child of the Cosby Show and 1980s anti-drug ads. I am showing my child the DVDs of the original series instead.
Disney, typically, will make only a certain number of episodes, no matter WHAT series it is (I wanna say it’s around 200 but I’m probably wrong) and then kill the series.
It also doesn’t help that Will Friedle (the voice actor for Ron Stoppable) is kinda busy right now doing Lion-O in the Cartoon Network reboot of Thundercats (which I’m totally loving).
Also, right now Disney seems to really be pushing the princesses (for girls) and Phineas&Ferb (for boys). If ain’t either of those two, fuhgeddaboutit.
