He’s just a terrible, terrible running mate. His latest? Defending his wife against white supremist by saying, “I know she’s not a white person, but I love her.” Only slightly edited for brevity.
A haiku:
Holy shit, this guy
Makes Sarah Fucking Palin
Sound like Obama
The sci-fi sequel to Hillbilly Elegy: The Man With Two Beards.
“She’s not a microfiber loveseat, but…”
Which is Good, we have to understand.
LMFAO 2x!
What a spineless shitheel this guy is.
I was thinking, however: Usha herself is now an enabler of Vance and therefore an enabler of Trump. She should have refused to support her husband when he ran for senator under Trump’s aegis, and she absolutely should have refused to support this VP run.
She’s a lawyer and an intelligent person, so she has no excuse. Shame on her!
And not to pick on her specifically, but everyone who enables these fascists in any way is culpable.
I feel it would be beneficial if the Dems didn’t use hillbilly as a slur. I see why it’s used to insult Vance, but there are large swaths of people who identify with the term to some degree. By using the term to denigrate Vance, it may end up alienating others from voting Democratic. If the message is “Don’t support Vance because he’s a hillbilly, and hillbillies are stupid”, then people who see themselves as hillbillies will be insulted. Vance has plenty of actions and behaviors of his own that can be used to insult him without lumping him in with a segment of the voting population.
All I have heard from our side is people calling him a fake hillbilly. I could be missing something, however.
I’ve seen fauxbilly and hillwilliam, so yeah, not insulting hillbillies.
Vance himself doesn’t seem to have a high opinion of hillbillies either, from what little I know about his book.
JD Vance’s wife Usha clerked for John Roberts and, I thnk, Brett Kavanaugh. Both conservative judges so I assume she is also conservative. I believe the judicial clerks are on the same wavelength as the judges for whom they clerk.
I see. Well, I guess she’s not smart or perceptive enough to see the difference between “conservative” and “fucking nazi.” Sigh.
BTW by all accounts JD Vance is also a lawyer and an intelligent person so . . .
She doesn’t have the look of evil in her eyes. He does. Too bad for her she doesn’t see it.
My favorite is “shillbilly”.
What was the supposed reason for all his name changes? I’m starting to get a Santos vibe from this asshole.
According to Wikipedia:
- He was born James Donald Bowman, the son of Donald Bowman and Beverly Carol (nee Vance).
- After being adopted by his stepfather (his mother’s third husband) when JD was young, his mother legally changed his name to James David Hamel – this gave him his adoptive father’s surname, while his middle name was apparently changed to get rid of his biological father’s first name (Donald), while maintaining his nickname, JD.
- As an adult (at ~age 28, around the time he graduated from Yale Law School), he changed his surname to Vance, which was the surname of his maternal grandparents, who had helped to raise him.
A little convoluted, but nothing particularly strange, IMO, and it’s likely that only the final name change, to Vance, was something he had any input on.
FWIW, one of my college friends changed his surname in his mid 20s, to get rid of the surname of the man to whom his mother was married to when he was born, but who wasn’t his biological father, and with whom he had no real relationship (as his mother divorced the guy not too long after he was born).
She used to be different. She hated Trump, according to her friends. She and JD have a lot in common.
(quoting Mother Jones quoting Washington Post to avoid WaPo paywall.)
Thanks for that though she may have been a Trump-hating conservative.
Plenty were at one point.
