Good morning! Melatonin didn’t really work last night, but I slept pretty well anyway. It was after 7:30 when I dragged myself into the shower. So far today, I’ve done the dishes, including the bell jars for today’s preservin’, and I boiled a dozen eggs and had an egg-n-swiss sammich for breakfast. Taz decided he needed to puke on the carpet I just cleaned yesterday, so I dragged the shampooer out again, and beat the damned cat with it!!!
OK, I didn’t do anything to the cat beyond cussin’ at him. And since the puke was fresh, it came up quickly and didn’t leave a stain, so yay for that. As soon as I finish reading my funnies, I’m going to de-skin the peaches, then chop 'em up and measure what I’ve got so I know how many batches I can make. Extra peaches will end up in the freezer. I’m putting it off a bit because it’s a hot job and I want to stay cool as long as possible.
That’s all I’ve got planned for today. We’ll see how it goes.
So yeah, got another 5 half pints of raspberry jam done last night, and will be making some nectarine jam in a day or two. Even my granddaughter got in on the jamming, three generations putting up preserves together.
rosie when they returned I ushered the curtain monkeys out to the deck with their berry baskets held tightly in their grubby little fists, no carpet cleaning needed, thank Og! Bobbio you never let me down, lol! spidey :dubious::rolleyes: Nava the blueberry is very good, but the raspberry is my favorite.
The forecast for today is for overcast skies and temps in the high 70’s/low 80’s. I know that’s not much compared with the rest of the country, but unless there’s a breeze it’s going to be uncomfortably muggy. Since I opened my big mouth yesterday and promised to make alogiks* to eat with the jam I will have to get that going here in a bit. Yeah, I am really excited about frying today.
Have a great Tuesday everyone!
*alogiks are simply fry bread, you know, it’s a Native Alaskan/American thing. Sort of like an unsweetened doughnut, and quite addicting, especially with homemade jam.
I hate work. Its just a huge slog now. Home time seems so quick. I get home, get dinner, watch some TV, get online, and suddenly its time to go to bed.
Also, anyone else have that feeling of impending doom you get, an almost paralyzing fear of when you grab that nose hair with the tweezers but before you pull? Sometimes I stay like that for a whole 30 seconds without moving, its hard to force myself to actually pull that hair.
Well, that was hot and sweaty, but it went well overall. I had enough peaches for 2 batches - 12 half pints - of peach jam. There was even a little more that I just dumped in a plastic container for immediate ingestion. And I’ve got a question for other jam makers - how do you keep the fruit from floating to the top as it cools? I’ve been turning the jars over, and over again every 10 minutes or so until it sets. The instructions make no mention of this - did I miss a step somewhere?
Poor **FCD **is not happy. He found out today that they want him to go to Johnstown 3-4 days every week! They’re looking for an apartment for him! I told him they need to give him a company car, too, because it’s putting way too many miles on our car way too fast! They asked him last year if he’d move there, and he told them no way. Looks like they’re almost trying to force the issue. ugh.
**kai **- I’ll trade your temps for ours! It’s 93° and about 500% humidity. Summer sucks.
Good Morning! I wish my life was as busy as your lives seem to be. I so far have made breakfast and done laundry. BTW this is my first MMP post so hi everybody! <waves excitedly and hands FCM a biiig chocolate bar>
Spidey, I have a tube of “Extra strength Benadryl itch stopping cream” here at work.
Kroger has a generic. The ingredient to look for is Diphenhydramine hydrochloride.
