The eponymous song featured in episode 3:

Diegetic version

Punk rock version

I love both versions. And yes, the song is about cunnilingus.

Beginning tonight there is a format change to a 30 minute narrated sitcom with an accompanying name change from Game of Thrones to Everybody Hates Tyrion.

Followed by the spin-off You Know Nothin, Jon Snow, which brings back the classic laugh track and has each episode ending with the feisty red-headed love interest saying the titular line with the studio audience chanting along.

"YOU KNOW NOTHING, JON SNOW!" [cue credits]

I was hoping Jamie would boot the Bolton guy into the bear pit.

I was hoping Jamie said “I immediately regret this decision” when he jumped in.

The Theon storyline is pissing me off. There’s not enough progress to any of the storylines, but that one just seems needlessly drawn out and violent.

This was what I was expecting/hoping for as well. That said, the scene as it played out was one of the most tense I’ve seen in a while, particularly considering that nobody has plot armor (other than maybe Dany). I was perfectly ready to see Jaime, Brienne, or both of them wind up as bear chow.

Meanwhile, Dany’s and Tywin’s scenes were both made of pure awesome. The only way Tywin’s could’ve been better is if he’d literally bitchslapped Joffrey, as well as figuratively.

Joffrey literally squirming, soooo good. Orell’s “i’d treat you right! lets pretend i did not cut you off 700 feet above ground a little while ago” attempt was hilarious.

Yeah, Joffrey is afraid of Tywin, which means he will probably do something rash.

Also, may I just say…

…Hodor.

Sansa is such a damned ninny. Tyrion’s too-good-for-her squared.

Charles Dance deserves some awards.

And Robb has a cute little boo-tay.

Same here… Theon and Robb need some more interesting progression. I feel like they need to just mention Robb still being an actual threat to the couth and that there actually IS still a war on.
I do think they have really done a good job redeeming Jaimie.

I could definitely do with less torture porn with Theon.

Loved Joffrey being put in his place, but was really hoping he’d get backhanded right off the throne.

Wondering how the hell Dany thinks she’s going to take that huge city with only 8K troops and three baby dragons. I assume her dragons are not immune to crossbow bolts/arrows?

And a question from earlier this season…what ever happened to the undead army? I thought they were pretty much at the Wall…but we haven’t seen them since the first episode of the season…[if this can’t be answered within the rules for this thread, just say so, and I’ll ask in the other thread]

I think Joffrey recognizes Tyrion’s intrinsic decency and knows that while his uncle might chew him out or even humiliate him he’s not going to have him killed. Tywin doesn’t give off those reassuring “I’ll stop short of putting my own grandson in his grave” vibes.

Looking at the landscape you wonder exactly what they’re all eating. Rations taken from a sacked city only last so long, they have no supply line, and they’re obviously not living off the land.

Favorite line: “I’ve had wet shits I liked better than Walder Frey.”

I felt a lot of time was wasted in this episode with the “Itchy and Theon Show”, Jon and Ygritte (yes, got it, they’ve got the hots for each other and it’s complicated), and rehashing of old material. Hard to believe there’s only 3 eps left.

Westeros exists someplace other than Earth and yet they all have English accents. I think they need to bring on Tim Blake Nelson or Lucas Black or Donnie Wahlberg in just to throw some American regional accents into the mix.

Doggone it, I’m actually starting to sympathize with Jamie.

I’m also really hoping that we’re not going to keep having these “more of the same” episodes right up until the season finale. Surely they can progress something other than the Dany storyline next week.

My wife said the exact same thing. I would have enjoyed that.

Exactly. We get it. Classic torture: offer him a way out, get him actually feeling hope, then clamp back down and mutilate him for a while. Enough. Move on.

You got your porn in my torture! You got your torture in my porn!

As cruel as that scene was, damn those were some mighty fine torturers. I had trouble reconciling the hot naked chicks giggling as the men grabbed Theon to chop his dick off. Seemed a little overly cold from (what you would assume were) normal people, as opposed to professional killers/torturers.

Dany is amassing a nice mouthful of titles. “Breaker of Chains,” I like it.

I noticed George RR Martin wrote this episode. Does he write them all? For some reason I thought he was just a consultant.

The torture scene reminded me strongly of the Castle Anthrax scene from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. “And after the spanking, the oral sex!”

Martin writes the script for one episode per season. The producers, Benioff and Weiss, write most of the rest of the episodes.

I thought this episode was the weakest of season 3, but season 3 has been very strong so far, so it only looks bad compared to the competition. Robb still likes Talisa, Ygritte still likes Jon, unnamed dude still likes torturing Theon,* the Sansa/Tyrion/Shae situation is still awkward, Bran’s crew are still bickering, we knew all that, nothing new in those departments really. Well, I guess Talisa is going to have a baby and Theon is NOT going to have a baby but still, nothing dramatic or unexpected.

Dany’s stuff was awesome, Jaime’s stuff was awesome, Tywin’s stuff was awesome but I feel like it could have easily been even awesomer.
*Theon’s torture scenes are really starting to get uncomfortable to watch, but I suppose that’s the point.

I 'm wondering what the dramatic point of Theon’s torture is. At least the nude scenes generally come with exposition. Is his captor planning to completely break him a la 1984 and turn him loose to do horrible deeds while we sympathize with him because we know what he’s been through? Is this some kind of twisted V for Vendetta thing where it’s his own father behind the torture to make him somehow stronger? (The castration scene would seem to argue against this theory, grandkids are a good thing for Westoros nobles.)

Anybody else think Dany might be due for a setback soon? She seems to be over-reaching a little. Her dragons aren’t THAT big and neither is her army. The city offered her ships and gold to get her out of their hair, just what she needed, and she spurned it.
