24: Season 4: Episode 14 (8:00pm - 9:00pm)

I know why he did it, I just wasn’t on board with Jack stabbing himself. It may’ve look real, but you can’t go out and make yourself less effective like that.

Look back over the last three and a half years of your life and tell me the last time you’ve heard an eloquent speech from someone around you.

I’d be annoyed if we get these absurd speeches for no reason other than a writer deciding to show how eloquent he can be…

-Joe

“You know I want to kill you…but after seeing that display I am pretty sure that you cannot be harmed by conventional weapons.”

Yeah, she wasn’t very nice.

Still oddly hot, though.

I don’t want eloquent speeches, I just want dialogue that makes sense, and is believable. Maybe it’s more the acting that is the problem this year, not to mention the fact that these episodes seem to be written on the spot.

Didn’t Bochco used to do this on NYPD Blue?

I like to think I have my moments of eloquence. Of course, I write for a living and sometimes I plan what I’m going to say before I have a conversation. Eloquent speeches don’t equal good dialogue, but the dialogue still hasn’t been that great. It doesn’t need to be Shakespeare, they’re just having issues with characterization.

Also, there have been at least one or two attempted inspirational speeches this year. Remember Driscoll talking to Edgar about what his mom would’ve wanted? It wasn’t eloquent. It also wasn’t that good.

Unconventional weapons don’t work well either. Even WMDs would be questionable.

Raise your hands…

Who knew that Jack was going to be swapped in the tunnel as soon as they mentioned the tunnel (those guys work faster than CTU)?

Who knew that there was a bomb in the car as soon as CTU said to stop the car?

Who knew that Terror Mom wasn’t going to make it to the end of the episode? I’ll be generous in interpretation on this one, 30 minutes into the program, who knew?

If your hand is down, I’ve got some nice Nevadan oceanfront property I’m looking to unload real cheap.

It took you that long? They gave the guy a suitcase; what else was going to be in it?

Am I supposed to type this with my tongue?

So Fayed was the guy from Bowfinger, eh? Maybe that’s why he looked familiar. I could swear I’ve seen a jazz trumpeter who looks like him, too. And as I sit at this desk, I see a picture of a doctor named Arthur Porter who looks just like both of them. Weird.

I’m not sure why CTU is so anxious about Marwan. I mean, WE know that he’s going to try to kill the president, but CTU doesn’t have any idea what his plan is, or whether he’s even got another plan. I mean, you’ve foiled two of the most insidious plots in history – would you presume that they were mere bluff for the real plan? Lucky I’m not running CTU - I would have put out the APB for Marwan, congratulated everyone for a job well done, and gone home to bed!

Shows what happens when I fold and put away clothes while watching TV. Miss the little things.

I guess we were all fairly certain she would die this season. The question should have been how early did you realize this was the episode?

Now for some prognostication:

Does Terror Son die? If you answer yes, when does Terror Son die? Lastly, does he die heroically saving the day?

shelbo, “chatter” is up. They think something is going to happen, but have no clue what might happen. Given the day’s events, they’re being supremely cautious. Also, by keeping the pressure constant on Marwan, the trail is hot and they may force a mistake. Given his position as a cell coordinator, capturing him can lead to a large scale terrorist destabilization.

Plus Jack is in the field. Need to take advantage of that before he leaves again, only to be dragged back next season.

My only guess is that she thought they might still be surveiling her (i.e. CTU knows where she is) and she wanted to take Marwan out so that he couldn’t possibly share any further information with the feds. That way, the plan keeps going and CTU wouldn’t have any real leads anymore.

The encoded printout apparently got there faster, though.
End of last episode:

…Jack hands off the printout… “Get this to CTU!”
…BANG! Paul gets shot like 5 seconds later…
…Medic rushed in, Paul loaded on chopper, etc etc…

So, then chopper arrives shortly after at CTU with Paul, and the printout has already been decoded when Jack arrives!

I was thinking the same thing. They are surrounded by evil henchman. She kills Marwan, and the henchmen pop her and Jack, and that pretty much means she’s not seeing junior ever again.

And they’d already made the deal that Behrooz was going to be freed after it was all over. This new deal was just to keep HER out of prison and let her be with him. So as long as he stays in CTU custody for today, presumably his freedom is taken care of.

She should have just played along and obeyed Marwan. Because if the gun was loaded and Jack died, the blame would still fall on Marwan.

That doesn’t really make sense, though, because Behrooz would be up shit creek in that case and so would she. With the way they’ve driven home “I care about my son” thing, it wouldn’t work.

My interpretation of what they wanted us to think she was thinking is this: “If I shoot Jack, my deal with the government is off and Behrooz goes to jail for life. And I know these guys, they’ll kill me anyway. So I might as well shoot Marwan and hope for another miracle from Mr. Indestructible over here.”

If I were Audrey, I would wonder why Paul is being treated at the CTU clinic instead of a trauma center.

You want a loved one treated by the crack staff that couldn’t keep a teenager from cutting her own wrists?

No way TerrorKid is going to die. From the very beginning he’s been at least sort of against the terrorist cause, he’s had his girlfriend killed by TerrorMom, been loving and caring enough to forgive and help her anyways, killed his own father (a pretty considerable 24 baddie), and generally done everything right and good.

He’ll get his deal, he’ll live until the end of the show, easy. Hell, maybe he’ll be so turned against the terrorists since they’ve killed his ma that we’ll see him working for CTU next season.

They shot her off screen, so maybe she’s only Mostly Dead.

PSA:

Amazon is selling Seasons 1-3 as a set for $120, 40% off, according to them. Just so y’all know…

Yeah, I was wondering why he was being choppered back to CTU (instead of a hospital or something) too. Do they just keep a crack staff of surgeons employed at the CTU clinic or something? Do they have that many surgeries to take care of on a daily basis?

Maybe it’s because of the non-stop torture going on…

When Driscoll’s daughter was there, one of the nurses said they were just a clinic, they weren’t equipped for a patient like her daughter.

So they can’t take care of a schizophrenic there, but multiple gunshot wounds, hey no problem!

Why they are bringing in a guy from Cedars-Sinai instead of UCLA is a little puzzling too. UCLA is a little bit closer, but maybe they don’t want to work with a teaching hospital.
Then again, there was that big accident at the intersection of Sepulveda and National (location of the phony accident in the cover story) and that snarled traffic.

Well, that and all the lights in L.A. going out. Well, a good chunk of lights.

I wonder what happens at the CTU clinic if you’re on the job and say you have a stomach ache?
“So, were you punched in the stomach?”
“No, I just feel nauseous.”
“Were you poisoned?”
“No, I think I have the flu.”
“Maybe you were tortured.”
“No my kid has been sick too and everybody at her daycare.”
“Hmmm. Nausea. What can we give you for that… Beats me. I just deal with torture victims and gunshot wounds. You better run down the street to the pharmacy and see if they have some Pepto-Bismol.”
