A crumby jelly MMP

As I was hanging the laundry, I remembered a bit of MIL weirdness. Ever since we bought this place 18 years ago, she’s been obsessed with my laundry room being in the basement. She worries that a day will come when I won’t be able to manage the stairs, and we should make a laundry room upstairs, posthaste! No matter that I have no leg, knee, or hip issues. No matter that the previous owner was in her 80s and she managed the stairs. No matter that my mom is 88 and her laundry room is in the basement and she manages just fine. Nope, I need to move my washer and dryer upstairs.

Where? I don’t know. Neither bathroom is big enough. The kitchen would require a major rebuild to fit the appliances in there. There’s no water or drain in the garage, so that’s impractical. But she wants this big “I-told-you-so” to hang over my head. I don’t get it.

OK, end of ranting. My chores are done - it’s time to assume the position in the recliner with my latest e-book.

I really wish he’d break the drive up into two days. 13 hours is too much for anybody. Hope he arrives safely!

Rant/vent/whine away, FCM!!! That’s partly what we’re here for. And, you know, we care and stuff.

It’s a pretty, sunny day, but it’s only 10:40 AM and already 85°F – with a forecasted high in the low 90s. Tomorrow will bring some clouds and highs in the upper 80s with rain in the evening, but today’s just gonna be hot. I’ll take the doggy outside as needed, but otherwise I don’t plan to leave the AC.

Tomorrow, I have tentative plans to go to a local fine arts festival with my best friends: the wife is battling a nasty UTI, so we’ll see how she’s feeling in the morning. I’m willing to bet she cancels, and I’m not interested enough to go on my own. Plus, even with the relatively lower temps it’s still going to be yucky outside. We shall see.

My nuts.com order arrived yesterday. Here are my verdicts:

  • dry roasted almonds - good (it’s hard to mess those up)
  • almonds covered in sugar-free milk chocolate - good
  • almonds covered in sugar-free dark chocolate - good, but the milk chocolate might be better
  • unsweetened banana chips - surprisingly unflavorful, but the crunch is satisfying
  • dried pineapple chunks - tasty, but I didn’t notice the ridiculously high sugar content until they arrived! I’m hoping most of it is natural sugars. To be on the safe side I’m only eating a few pieces at a time…so far, no ill effects (processed sugar is one of the things that can make me quite ill).
  • sugar-free chocolate fudge - :face_vomiting: (very disappointing)

In all, I’m glad I ordered from them but I don’t see myself doing it again (unless I develop a taste for the chocolate-covered almonds and can’t find sugar-free ones anywhere else).

The Dope was able to help with my computer issue! At least, a workaround was identified (disconnecting the ethernet cable and connecting to the internet via wifi). I’ll do some experimenting with another ethernet cable at some point, but right now I’m just happy and relieved to be able to upload/download files (including email attachments), navigate websites, etc., without trouble again.

So far this morning I have caught up on my bills and started the laundry (load 1 of 2 is probably ready to transfer to the dryer), and I’m about to finish doing some administrative stuff for my NAACP committee. I think that’s going to be the extent of my exertion today, though…I hear the couch and TV calling my name…

For me, it depends on the reason I’m not feeling it. I used to have a thing about not finishing books, but in recent years I’ve decided that life is too short and there are too many books I want to read to waste time on something I have to force myself through.

Morning. Another hot day in central Florida. I planted herbs or five of the fifteen I have. I transplanted four tomatoes into bigger pots. That was all I could take of heat right now.

The rest of day shall be devoted to sloth and streaming. I do have housework, yep, that needs doing but it will wait for tomorrow.

Everyone enjoy your weekend.

I made home fries, over-easy eggs, and chicken sausages for breakfast. I saw the sausages when I went to Costco for a 30-pack of bog rolls, and thought I’d try them. Not bad. Not as good as pork, but fairly tasty. I offered Goo a little piece, since she was begging, and she didn’t eat it. Too spicy for her.

But what is it? :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

VanGo I hope you get your power back soon. I hate that beeping.

Red It depends on the book. A few chapters, and then if I’m not clicking with the book I’ll flip to a few chapters from the end and try again. Sometimes the writing improves. If I think it shows promise, then I’ll flip back to the front and keep going for at least a bit longer. Don’t feel guilty for not finishing something. If the book isn’t for you, then that’s the way it goes or if it’s a bad book, it’s a bad book. There are a LOT of bad books out there. Dodge the bullet and move on.

The temples sound fascinating. I will have to check around here. Thank you for the tip!

Taters I’m sorry about the refuge. Have fun visiting the kids and grands today. :slightly_smiling_face:

Oopsie I approve of your plan to spend your time in the AC. I wilt in the heat myself.

It’s hot already. :rage:

Happy Saturday!

Happy Saturday!

I’m not getting much done. Quite disgusting.

It was a bit wet at the park this morning, we had a lot of rain yesterday.
Barky came anyway.
It was in the 60s when I got there, and in the high 70s when I left. I was there for almost 3 hours, so the dogs are pretty tired.
A few new dogs showed up. One was a deaf Frenchie. My dogs were a bit overwhelming at first, but pretty soon they were having a good time together. I think they will be back. A pittie puppy came in, nice dog, high energy and super friendly. Then a shepherd? mix came in, but the owner ran laps around the park with the dog at his heels. There wasn’t much interaction. Later a new doodle came in, nice dog. I think they may be back too.
I’m really surprised there weren’t more people since the morning was so nice.

We turned on the AC last night. Well, my son did without telling me, and he didn’t know I had my windows open. The humidity was awful last night, and now it’s 89 degrees outside. Glad we have it, it is needed today.

I need to do a little laundry, wash dishes, and I should be irking. I need to order groceries to pick up tomorrow.
I’d like to take a nap, but that is not going to happen.

I really should be mowing the lawn, but it’s almost 90 out there, and I got a case of the donwannas.

Power did come back, so the beeping is gone.

I really should be mowing the lawn, since it’s 57ºF out there, but I got a case of the donwannas.

Also, I need to wash my kayak. Maybe I’ll mow after noon, and then clean the 'yak.

Thunder, lightning, and rain all day. I had to cancel my riding lessons since the horses were out and you cannot ride a wet horse. The tack may cause rubs. I’m very annoyed the horses are out.

Last night I hosted my retirement dinner, courtesy of Facebook. I’m in Illinois and got a $397 settlement from a class action lawsuit against FB for privacy and digital imaging and whatever else. I have no memory of filling out any papers for this, but I’ll take the money. There were 8 of us at a local Italian restaurant and it was delicious. We all had something alcoholic to start. I had fettucini Alfredo with meatballs with enough leftover for tonight’s dinner. Dessert was brought by a guest (no I did not ask her!). From Nothing Bundt Cakes, a blueberry bundt cake with thick vanilla drizzle. I received many presents. I did not expect presents, so I am very thankful. Dinner was reasonable, $245 plus a $50 tip so I have Facebook money left over.

Ran the mowin’ machine over the yards. Got the kayak up on the deck, but I’m going to take a break before I start washing it. It’s going to be a job.

Laundry is off the lines, folded, and stowed. Dishwasher has been emptied. FCD called about an hour ago from the VA state line - he should be home within 90 minutes or so. Huzzah!!

I’m going to resume the recline position and read some more. It’s freekin’ hot and humid outside, but comfy in the house. Hooray for technology!

oopsie, I haven’t ordered from Nuts.com for a couple of years now. They discontinued selling the SF hard candies that I like, their SF chocolate didn’t impress me and I buy nuts at Aldi for less. Glad you like your almonds though.

Inspired by butters, I got the patio cleaned up, went to Lowe’s for plants and potted them (pics later).

Lunch was a twist cone from DQ and supper TBD.

Afternoon all. Soccer has been refereed, first game was 79F, second was 84F and last one was 89F, so I am a bit burned out. I also stopped at the Verizon store between games and bought a phone-USB cord and a phone-car power cord for a sum of money. Just ate an apple and am drinking a heavily-iced Pepsi to restore energy. These were the last games of the season and I was glad I got back in time to do some refereeing. Coaches and parents were just fine.

Good chance of rain Sunday and Monday, if it misses us I may have to water the yard as it’s looking a bit parched. Otherwise not much planned into the rest of the weekend, nappage may occur in a bit.

red, Usually if the book hasn’t grabbed me in the first couple of chapters, it never will. I often read a book 1/3-1/2 the way, put it aside for awhile (weeks to years) and then go ahead and finish it.

Taters, looks like and interesting park. Hope you make it there sometime.

FCM, hope FCD makes it home soon and immediately heads off to bed.

Wet one, if I haven’t said it before, happy retirement!

OK, need to continue the cool-down. All y’all take care.

WetOne How nice of Facebook! :stuck_out_tongue: I’m glad you had fun. Nothing Bundt Cakes makes nummy cakes.

flyboy Where do you kayak?

Mooommm he made excellent time!

Metal Mouse I salute your ability to manage the heat and humidity.

In think we’re going to watch a movie with the kids. “Lost City” , with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum. I believe this qualifies as an old fashioned rom-com/popcorn movie. It should be fun.

Decided to suck it up and got the lawn mowed. Kinda sweaty now, but I’ll survive. I’ve got some ribs going on the grill, so all is well.

Glad to hear FCD has made it thus far.

And he’s home!!! And the peasants rejoiced!

The kayak (Ocean Kayak Drifter) is scrubbed. I couldn’t get the couple of raccoon footprints off, but whaddya gonna do? Blinding work. The Sun is out, and the kayak is white. Had to put on the ol’ Wayfarers.

Birch Bay.

A neighbour was selling a Necky Sky sit-inside kayak with a seat and paddle for $200. Mrs. L.A. went out on an errand, and when she came home she said she wanted to buy it. So now she’s the proud owner of her first kayak. :sunglasses:

FCD made good time without making “too” good time Moooooom.

Chilling under the AC now (it was 93F when I did the yard work today and sat outside to admire it with Nelson). Freddy’s fixed a patty melt for supper. We just got a Freddy’s here, along with the development on that part of Sam Ridley Parkway. I had been to them while traveling and they don’t do a bad burger. One of the few drive thrus that serves patty melts.

Now for chillage.

Up from naptime, watching the Preakness, then hockey. I’m trying a whiskey smash First load of laundry is put away.

A couple of chapters. But I ususally read the last couple of pages before I start to see if the journey is worth it.

Well when you can’t crawl up the stairs and Ziva and Taz eat you, don’t come crying to us .:stuck_out_tongue:

A MMA grapling doll. Though I suppose you could spoon if if that’s your kink.
