Howdy Y’all! We accomplished next to nuttin’ today. Well, I did have a nice phone chat with the Luterun Assistant Bishop who will be with us tomorrow. I get to Verge, so I will be an Assistant Bishop’s assistant. I am sure she will be as nice in person as she was on the phone. It rained for almost two hours this afternoon which was nice even though it cut into quality cee-mint pond time. We were forced, forced, I say to day drink on the back porch while watchin’ it rain. Sammiches got consumed as well. There is a baby bunny in the back yahd. No idea where it came from. I tried to get a pic but the thing would not turn around and I did not want a pic of a baby bunny butt.
MOOOOOOM glad FCD made it home safe and souind. I dare say he will have an early hard crash after that drive.
doggio, that cocktail sounds good and I’m back in the mint growing business as of this afternoon.
Well, I’m hanging up the book that I started and will peruse da Jungle’s offerings tonight for the replacement (I still have a couple of unread on the kindle).
Glad FCD made it home safe and sound. That’s a hell of a drive all in on fell swoop.
Twas a lazy day here today. Sonny boy and his girl brought KFC so no cooking happened. I did futz around and potted some plants and transplanted more tomatoes. I made an appointment for my second booster on Tuesday. Here’s hoping it shan’t make me sick.
It was dreary and thundering off and on all day but we didn’t get very much rain at all. Two days of threatening and overcast all for nada. At least it was a little cooler with the cloud cover. I want rain.
Life is too short to read bad books. I used to feel obligated to finish everything I started no matter how boring or badly written, then one day I realized that I didn’t have to do that. It felt so freeing!
I’m also glad that FCD is home safe. I’ll bet you both sleep well tonight. I do want to ask about guest beds cause I saw that you put fresh sheets on the bed. If you don’t have people staying often, do you also change the sheets before guests arrive because the old sheets somehow got stale or something?
Our guest bed uses different sheets than our bed, so when a visit is impending, I get “fresh” sheets out of the linen cabinet, change the bed, wash the old sheets and put them in the cabinet. After the guests leave, I do the same thing. This pretty much means that the “fresh” sheets aren’t really fresh so why am I bothering? I tried leaving the used sheets on the bed after our last guests left, but the bed nagged at me so much that I had to change them.
I’m getting mine on Thursday. I’ve been hearing that after a while you stop having side effects so fingers crossed for both of us.
Last night I was up until 2 cooking milk. I like to time the hanging and fermenting so I can get started on the next steps after I have my morning coffee. Said steps include using large pots and pans and bowls which filled up the dishwasher fairly quickly. I got that started while the cheese was curing and started frying the beans I had also started last night. It didn’t surprise me to see that the kitchen temp was over 85, but it did surprise me that our AC thermostat was showing 82 while being set for 77.
While there really isn’t any good time for one’s heat-pump to fail, during the middle of a heatwave could be considered to be a bad time to be without AC in the desert. Happily, we don’t live in a concrete heat sink, the temps drop quickly after the sun goes down.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 70 Amurrkin out and mostly clear with a predicted high of 95 and cloudy for the day with rain movin’ in this evenin’ and allegedly stayin’ with us for a couple of days. We shall see. The big item on the agenda is deheathenization, wherein I shall be Assistant to the Assistant Bishop or sump’n like that. This is Rogation Sunday so after the service we shall have a blessin’ of the gardens and grounds. Then we shall have a reception for the Assistant Bishop and for our high skool grajooaytes. Then we shall head back to da cave for sammiches, sloth, nappage, and day drinkin’. I’m already worn out just thinkin’ about it all!
Butters and Jane The Cane the second plague booster did not bother me at all beyond a sore arm. Hope it’s the same for y’all.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then purtification for deheathenization must commence.
Yeah, it was tough enough 20 years ago - it’s killer now! I fear the next time we have to make the trip, it will be especially bad…
The guest bed is also Roxy’s bed when she stays over, so it gets slept on ever-so-often. But when I expect someone other than her to sleep there, I’ll change the sheets. Why? You planning to stop by? I do wash them every time they’re used by other than the child, and I’ve just got the one set of sheets now - the rest have been consigned to use on the boat. If we start having more company, I’ll buy another set.
FCD is still abed - in fact, he asked for the comforter to be pulled up. That’s unusual for him. I hope he stays in bed as long as he wants instead of getting up because he thinks he has to. He still can’t adjust to the retirement mindset and he apparently doesn’t believe me when I say I don’t care how long he sleeps. Just because I get up early… sheesh… all I do is play here for a couple of hours.
Chance of rain around supper time, but otherwise, freekin’ hot - heat indices around 100° this afternoon. I don’t expect we’ll venture forth, but we have no plans, so who knows? I looked at the movies playing locally - absolutely nothing interested me. Will we ever be done with these stupid comic book movies?? So it’ll probably be a day of indoor chillage.
I hope that you’re able to get the heat pump fixed pronto jane the cane. On top of your recent plumbing woes, one wonders what’s next.
Up, caffeinating, breakfasting and fixing to mess around in the studio before doing KP and Sunday chores. We had a few Tboomers last evening, but only got a nice, soaking rain. My newly potted plants loved it.
Morning all. Up around 6:15am, but still feeling tired so nappage is not out of the question. Outside of the usual Sunday dinner outing (Longhorn Steakhouse according to my schedule), not much planned for today. Got a little rain last night and more is expected during the day and tomorrow, so glad I got the lawn mowed Firday.
FCM, hope FCD stays in bed all morning. 6-8 hours is an exhausting drive for me, going 13+ hours (and I’m betting he didn;t stop very often either) would be a nightmare.
Jane the Cane, I’d still get that AC thermostat checked out, I usually have my temperature at 77 but if it was showing 82 instead I’d be concerned.
Well, I did leave 60-90 minutes between games, drank a lot of water, and tried to use my experience to get aroound the field without to much running…but it still wears me down. And I just agreed to referee a tournament in Mid-June…oh joy.
OK, paper rescued and pills taken, so guess some sloth is in other. All y’all have a great Sunday.
He’s still in there. I’m sorry I didn’t grab my e-book before I came out. If I go in to retrieve it, I’ll wake him and he’ll feel obliged to get up. So I’ll suffer. < pose of woe >
My credit union’s on-line banking is still hosed up - they’ve been “upgrading” it for over a week and the members are all pissed!! I’m not an IT expert, but I find it hard to believe that the company that’s supposed to be launching the new software didn’t have a contingency plan to put the old one back in place if (when) problems arose. I’m pretty sure I’ll need to pay my VISA soon, but I don’t get paper bills, so I don’t know when it’s due. Normally, I just do a transfer when one of our SS payments is made. At least I know the service that monitors my VISA is working, so I shouldn’t have to worry about bogus charges. But still…
All righty, then. Guess I’ll do another puzzle or something.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. I shall clean, and watch some hockey. It’s cloudy, with a chance of thunderstomrs. Luckily Gordie has done his business for now.
JaneTheCane, hope the heat pump gets fixed soonest.
You could alphabetize your spices.
But glad FCD is still sleeping.
[Darkwing Duck]Let’s get dangerous.[/Darkwing Duck]
It was a wet morning at the park. I heard we had thunderboomers last night, but I slept through them. It drizzled a little off and on this morning. No Barky today, but the new doodle was there. He is very calm for being 7 months old. He looks like Tiger from the Brady Bunch, only much bigger.
None of the dogs did anything today but hang around. It was only 66 degrees, but humid, and I guess they weren’t up to playing much. I think it’s still good for them even if they don’t run around. They get out and get to see their friends.
Echo had a nasty fall and hit her head. She seems to be okay though. She gets very excited when Lucy dad gets there. She missed jumping up onto the picnic table and fell backwards. At some point everybody rubbed her head to check if she was sore or had any bumps. I’ll keep an eye on her, but I think she’ll be okay.
Only thing planned for the day is picking up groceries. I wonder if everything I ordered is in stock. I hear the shelves are getting bare in some stores. I want my son to bake some cookies for the armpit tomorrow. I need to do some laundry and the dishwasher needs to be loaded and run.
Glad FCD made it home safely. That is a lot of driving. I can barely handle the 90-minute drive to the armpit.
It’s currently 45 degrees and sunny, with an expected high of 72.
I’m glad FCD made it home safely, FCM. Totally agree that is one long-assed drive, but I can understand wanting to just get home after everything these past couple of weeks. I hope FCD gets a good long rest.
The visit with the kids and grandkids was nice. The kids fixed a nice late lunch, we played with the grandkids and visited with the kids. We were home just after five and Polar was exceedingly happy to see us. His greeting was very enthusiastic and he hasn’t left my side since I arrived home yesterday.
I need to do laundry today and do some basic packing. I’ll pack the rest of my stuff (toiletries) tomorrow and then I’ll be ready to go. It’s going to be a long four days.
If it were me, a quiet night alone in a hotel would be a perfect way to de-stress, with the extra-added benefits of making the drive easier and worrying my wife less.
But FCD is clearly not me; I’m very glad it worked out safely for him.
He’s just a tad impatient - have I ever mentioned that? - and a bit stubborn - I know I’ve mentioned that.
He had a good sleep and a good breakfast and we rode down to the marina to get a part number off the boat so he can install a couple of electrical bits. He’s in his recliner with his laptop now, and I’m about to settle in with my reading. Rain is forecast - hope it’s sooner than later.
FCM and I live within 60 miles of each other, so our weather tends to be similar…which means, I, too, am expecting a generally hot/unpleasant day with thunderstorms around dinnertime. When I took the doggy outside at 8am it wasn’t too bad, because even though it was nearly 80°F and slightly muggy it was still a little overcast and there was an occasional light breeze. Three hours later, though, the sun is out. The wife half of my BFFs did wind up cancelling today’s arts festival plans, so I’ll happily spend another day in the AC.
Yesterday I discovered that S3 of Legendary (HBO Max) has started! The first three eps are available now, with additional episodes premiering on the next seven Thursdays. I spent most of my 20s in gay bars – my then-best-friend was a lesbian who was uncomfortable in straight bars – and while I didn’t know about the ballroom scene then, watching this show reminds me of those days and my abiding connection to that community. (Yes, I also watched/loved Pose.) Plus it’s hard to not be entertained by the cattiness (from contestants and judges alike). I watched the available eps yesterday, but might wait until the entire season is available – around mid-July – to watch any more. It’s definitely one that I prefer to binge.
Afternoon, mumpers! Its 17c/63f and the weather app says “It’s cloudy and you’ll fucking like it”, so cloudy it is.
Glad to hear FCD got home safely and had a decent sleep.
Red I give a book quite a fair chance, there aren’t many that I have abandoned but I don’t feel obliged to finish something I’m not enjoying. I have a pile of books here and anything that doesn’t make me happy gies to the charity shop.
We were out late last night, went to a gig and saw a couple of friends there. Afterwards we walked back into town as that’s where the taxi rank is, and found a decent pub still open so we had a drink or two in there. Finally got home about 2am.
Been busy today, floors are either vacuumed or mopped, lunch stuff for the next couple of days has been done, and the laumdry has been put away. 'im indoors strimmed the borders at the front if the house, I told him to pull everything up and we’ll put bark chippings down but he decided otherwise. Havimg a nice soaky bath next, and making chilli later for dinner. I have ironing to do but that can wait for another day.
Jane the Cane Not the AC! You have described one of my personal nightmares. Someday I will have a Hobbit House, and be able to ride out heat waves in comfort.
Swampy You’ve had a busy day! I like the idea of blessing the gardens. It sounds lovely.
Today I think we’ll binge watch stuff. I plan to also get some more dishes washed. Litter boxes shall be cleaned. Tomorrow I begin to bother the mortgage folks instead of them bothering me! The worm has (temporarily) turned.
I’ve started walking the dogs first thing in the morning. Yoshi is very happy, all the time, so I don’t see much difference in him. Akiko is thrilled and happy all day.
My folks are off for a 2 day trip to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary. I’ll be watching their house. They have an older Malinois and an older kitty. Both are very sweet and easy to care for. I will be switching on the AC once they leave. For some reason, my dad thinks that the animals don’t need AC, but the house gets hot.
My doctor approved my CSF leak repair, which I am thrilled about.
Arrived in MSP on Saturday and are ensconced in our temp apartment waiting for our household effects to arrive. The permanent apt is very nice with a great view of the city. We’re about two blocks from the Walker Museum and the sculpture garden.
