A crumby jelly MMP

I got an opaque plastic cup and some treats. I showed VBC a treat, put the treat on the floor and covered the treat with the cup. VBC knocked the cup over and ate the treat and asked for more. I did the same thing with NSGC and he didn’t hesitate to knock the cup over. GG, who watched both of them get treats…just couldn’t figure it out. He was pretty sure there was a treat somewhere in the area of the cup and searched the room diligently.

Hubs thought I was being mean, so he picked the cup up and showed GG the treat. Then he put another treat down and covered it with the cup and got the same results.

At least he’s cute.

Now that I’m happily retired, I get up around 10. It’s wonderful. Jane, I get up maybe around 9 now, but I still agree with you. The greatest luxury of retirement for me is getting up when I please. When I worked I rarely was in bed past 4.

scareyfaerie, when it comes to spending time in a bookstore I hear you! My dream is to win the lottery and go to a good used bookstore with a shopping cart.

I need pity. My sis and I played trivia tonight and out of twelve teams we came in last. One category that didn’t help was a visual one, pictures of ten folks in reality shows. We got three out of ten. And don’t get me started on music since, say, 2000. . But we truly had fun, and that’s what really matters. Oh, we did do well on the Civil War catergory, only missing one.

He is cute.

Now for some serious bragging! I used to work in a library, in the department in charge of receiving, sorting, repairing and discarding books. It was great, I spent my days playing with books and not dealing with the public.

A man with a used book store died and left the contents of his store to the library. Us catalogers spent weeks at the store sorting books into three piles. One was for the library to actually use, the second was for the Friend’s to sell and the last was junk. We were allowed to take all of the junk books we wanted.

I have no problem reading books that are missing their covers and I collect needlework patterns and didn’t mind if they were all loose.

I brought home boxes and stacks and bags of books. I had stacks of books against the walls, piles on the nightstand and books covering the end tables.

One day soon-to-be hubs was looking under the couch for a kitty toy and found a book. He pulled it out, looked at me and asked “Isn’t there a 12 step program or something for this?”

Of course, my solution was to move to a bigger place so we could have more bookshelves but I did weed my popular fiction as I finished.

I lived tired. I wanted to do things at night, but I had to be up in time to deal with an hour commute one way. Now I’m saving us money because our electric company charges less if we use appliances at off peak times. I’m going to go start a load of laundry in a bit, I’ll probably do a load of towels after that.

The one local bookstore has a 25 cent and 10 cent outside the store. If you ever need a 1947 material sciences book for a dime(yes, I did buy that one)

I don’t remember the name, but in 1983-4 I was in school in Chicago, and there was a bookstore that had a cat living there. It was a long-haired gray cat named Lady Jane.

You remember the important part!

My people!

Up, caffeinated and sheveled. Off to heave.

Morning all!

I used to volunteer at a second-hand charity bookshop. That was a dangerous gig… As well as being able to take the stuff deemed not worth selling, I also got a 50% discount on everything else.

I have thinned the collection out a bit since leaving, but books are definitely my weakness when it comes to stuff. That and plants.

No, but since his sleep cycle is off, he hasn’t been getting his first morning dose when he usually does, and I think that’s screwing with his brain chemistry. Were I in that situation, I’d call the doc to find out what I should do, but she won’t. SMH

UTI?? Interesting - I’ll mention it to them.

Regarding books - don’t shun me, but these days, I’d rather read e-books than dead tree versions. I like that I can instantly look up words or places I don’t know without reaching for a different book. I like that I can read in bed without turning on a light. I like that it’s small. I like that I can adjust the font size. I also like that I can get tons and tons from the library for free!!! I have 5 in my queue right now, and with FCD et al leaving tomorrow, I’ll have at least 3 days to read uninterrupted!

I need to call the body shop and find out what’s going with my car. Having to shuffle around vehicles has been a challenge. Right now, SIL has our truck and I have his car. FCD has his Caddy back and daughter is back in her Rogue. As soon as my car is done, we’ll get the truck back and SIL will get his car back. And life will be good. I actually miss my car.

Plan for today - I’ll leave in about an hour to pick up the grands, I’ll deposit Roxy at her school, then bring the Tobester here for the day. Then depending on FIL, we may or may not attempt the boat this afternoon. You all know where my vote falls. Not sure what chores I’ll be able to accomplish today. Just gonna wing it.

Happy Wednesday!!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN 'Tis 60 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 98 and N.O.S. Definitely Summer weather! Today we shall procure provisions and finish up the laundry that did not get done yestiddy. I foresee some quality cee-mint pond time as well. Sloth, etc. are also on the agenda. Sup shall be grilled chikin sallit, which is one of our favorite Summer time sups.

MOOOOOOM that sucks about FIL. I guess we can only hope for the best. At least you’ll have some peace and quiet to look forward to for a few days.

Jane The Cane poor GG and his lack of figurin’ out how to get the treat! He is handsome, however, and does at times try to be good.

MetalMouse welcome back! We are all on edge awaitin’ tales of your travels.

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I must purtify and don attire appropriate to be amongst the great unwashed. Must life be so burdensome!

And now this…

:astonished: I have been remiss! :astonished:

< AHEM > Clearin throat < AHEM >

HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY DEEEAAARRR SSSAAARRRIII!!!
HAAAPPPYYY BIIIRRRTTTHHHDDDAAAYYY TOOOOOO YOUUUUUU!!!

I saw that yestiddy was your bday.

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Good morning everyone.

I should be driving into the office today, but I am trying to get Polar into the vet. He may have either a fungal/yeast infection or ringworm. Whatever it is, I need to be able to get to the vet when they have availability, and doing that from an hour away is difficult, especially when I would have to stop and pick up Polar. Additionally, I have an all-hands for the entire state and I am running it. I didn’t really want to, but since most of what we are discussing has to do with returning to work and admin/operations stuff; it’s on me. Not a big deal and I’m prepared, but it just cuts into my day. Finally, I wouldn’t get out of the office itself until after four (well after the time I should be off), and again, I’m trying to get Polar to the vet as well as get to a dumbass HOA meeting that seems to be some kind of big emergency.

So, I’d rather just work from home today, get some actual work accomplished without taking extra leave, and meet all my obligations.

Mom, that just sucks about FiL. I too have read that UTIs can make things worse for patients with dementia, so it would be worth checking into. I’ll bet you’ll really enjoy the peace and quiet when everyone is gone.

Metal Mouse, I’m looking forward to hearing about your adventures here in my neck of the woods and up in Alaska.

I like Kindles/tablets for traveling. It’s much easier and lighter to carry one of those around to read. I haven’t really read in a long time and I used to be an avid reader. I would get through a 1000 page book in a couple of days back in the day. I need pick that up again.

Today’s weather will be wet and windy. Thie highest temp we’ll see in the next few days is 70, but otherwise, temps will hover around 60 degrees and we have nothing but rain on and off for the next 10 days. Bah! No spring here. It’s frustrating.

Well, I need to finish cleaning the kitchen. You all have a good day!

Happy Hump Day, all!

Moommm - I hope FIL gets to feeling better. I’m sure you are going to enjoy the quiet! I’m with you - I love my e-reader app on my phone. It’s very portable and I can read everywhere! I do have some hardbacks on my bookshelves, though. Mostly Stephen King, but a few other authors as well.
I do miss the smell of a used bookstore! Sorta spicy and old… like me!

Metal_Mouse - I want to hear tales from your travels, too!

Yesterday was a miserable day for my husband. The night before he was uncontrollably itchy and couldn’t sleep, and was itchy all day, too. Combined with being extremely dizzy from one of his prescribed medicines, he was NOT HAPPY. Finally he asked me for one of my Norco pills, and it knocked him out. He slept all night!

Better get to irk. Le sigh. I am at the office today.

Have a great day!

Morning all. Managed to stay up until near midnight, so I was certain of a nice long sleep…HA! Woke up about 6am and while I stayed in bed until 7:30am, not much more sleep was garnered. So nappage may be in my near future…

Have to re-adjust to the weather here; out in the NW and Alaska the highs were in the 40-60’sF range; at 8am in N. Ali-bama it’s already 68F and heading for 90F. IF Seattle wasn’t so darn rainy…

I will post pictures and such to Facebook of my trip, but need to mow yard, shopping, pay bills, and do general housekeeping first.

Rebo, hope husband-unit is doing better today.

FCM, hope FIL is doing better and is not in a permanent state yet. Best wishes. And I try to read e-books (brother bought me a Kindle for Xmas years ago), but there is just something about paperbooks…

Taters, {{Polar}}. Hope the schedule works out.

To all the other bookworms, I am one of you. Thanks for the stories.

Jane the Cane, GG is such a goofball; but a loveable one. And sorry,

Sari, happy B-day to Sah-son.

Nellie, didn’t have a chance to visit Voodoo donuts, will put it on my list. Oh, and sorry,. my reading never mentioned the Archosanti but I find your descriptions quite interesting. Oh, and by the way:

So you’re in good company.

OK, need to check finances and pay bills. All y’all have a great day.

FIL has been “seeing” people in the trees in our front yard. He also talked about a truck in the front yard putting asphalt in the ditch. It’s really sad and scary. And he gets angry when we tell him there’s no one out there.

Trying to get the babby to nap - he’s a tad cranky, but he won’t surrender to the swing. Rotten kid. :stuck_out_tongue:

On the plus side - my car is in paint and I should get it back early next week.YAY!!

Thanks, everybody, for the kind anniversary wishes. It was indeed very nice.

I was able to get out of irk about 15 minutes earlier than usual, which gave us a little extra time to… enjoy each other’s company. (Let the clutching of pearls commence)

Then we opened a bottle of bubbly and had a glass before heading off to our dinner reservation. They gave us the corner table against two giant picture windows, and the sunset was beautiful.

Imgur

For dinner, they had a new dish on the menu, Crab Carbonara. We both ordered that, and it was delicious. Then back home, where we finished the bubbly, and had a dessert of cupcakes Mrs W had procured earlier in the day from a local bakery.

Just before going to bed, she said to me “We rocked this anniversary!” and initiated a high-five. God, I love that woman.

Happy Birthday Sari !!!

Taters I hope Polar’s situation gets sorted. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for something easy to treat.

Rebo I know we’ve got other Mumpers who have had challenges getting their itches sorted out. I hope your husband gets his settled soonest.

My pearls were just fine until you leaned into it. So to speak. (I’ll go get my pearls now.)

It is supposed to be 94F today. That is 34.4C, in case some of you would like to know that. This is way past comfortable for me, especially since it was in the 60s and pretending to rain a few days ago. This indirectly leads me to my new plan: walk the dog first thing in the morning, before the surface of the sun touches down here, and then again just before bed, after the sun has temporarily gone off to bother someone else. Akiko enjoyed her walk this morning. She’s very expressive, and made it very clear when I went a different way then my husband does when he walks her. Change is good for the mind and soul Akiko!

More mortgage type stuff today, after a two hour meeting with our financial advisor yesterday and a meeting with our mortgage person last night. You know what? This is all good and necessary and I am SO TIRED of dealing with it. deep breaths

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Good morning! It’s rainy and breezy here. I only like that weather from indoors, as it makes walking anywhere a wet prospect. Rain is OK. Wind is OK. But combine the two, and I’m fighting the umbrella and getting wet anyway. Maybe it’ll ease up in a bit. It’s gym day, and I should walk to the P.O…

I couldn’t get to sleep because my legs ached so much. It wasn’t an exercise ache. Today my hand joints are grumpy again. Lupus: the gift that keeps on giving. As long as I can live on top of the pain, I’m OK.

Mooooom, your FIL sounds a lot like my BIL when he started sundowning. Night after night, he saw a crowd of menacing people advancing toward their house, sometimes in military formation. He got very agitated. He, too, never recognized he had dementia, as it had damaged the prefrontal cortex. How is your MIL handling the sundowning? It was very hard on my sister.

MetalMouse, I LOVED that cartoon.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DEAR SARI!!

Rebo, I spent months in itching hell. I’d take pain any day over that. Do docs know what’s causing it? What does he take for it?

Taters, good luck on the all-state session. I’m sure it’ll go great with you at the helm.

swampy, is the grilled chicken salad a garden salad with grilled chicken in it, or is it chicken salad (chopped chicken, mayo, celery, etc.) made with chicken that’s been grilled?

Wheelz, your description of your anniversary gave me the Mushies.

She’s exhausted, but she refuses to get help - she insists she’ll care for him herself. They’re both stubborn, as is their firstborn…

I finally got Toby down for a nice nap, then someone came to the door and rang the bell, and Higgs went bat-crap crazy. So much for a good nap - that’s twice he’s been awakened today. He’s never even gotten an uninterrupted hour. Poor kid.

I am so looking forward to a few days of quiet all alone.

That’s a shame. Would she be open to additional meds? My BIL’s doc finally put him on Seroquel and then increased the dose. For the first time in two years, my sister wasn’t dealing with his hallucinations.

I hope poor Toby gets a nice, long snoozesoon!.
