Thank you Swampy, and no it’s today. Moonday was my son’s bd.
I wish we shared a birthday, but close enough I guess.
Happy birthday, Sahirrnee!
It’s a beautiful afternoon to be 12 miles west of the White House: 74°F and sunny, with no humidity and a nice breeze. Very different from two days ago (muggy/stormy), and very different from the forecast two days from now (90°…climbing to 94° on Saturday). I’ll keep the windows open while I can. Makes me wish I had both a usable patio (the concrete is too broken up) and the ability to easily work outside (needing two laptops – and being spoiled by external monitors – quickly complicates things).
…eh, who am I kidding: if I were sitting outside I’d probably do even less work than I am right now.
I don’t think I’ve ever mentioned my mandarin orange addiction. I them! I buy Del Monte “no sugar added” mandarin orange cups – IMO they taste slightly better than the Dole variety – and have at least one every day for lunch/dinner, along with some kind of protein. My love for them predates my surgery, but in the past six months they’ve become even more of a constant. I just finished a protein bar, and am gazing lovingly at a cup of oranges while I type. There was a time earlier this year when they were suddenly hard to find, for at least a month, but whatever the problem was seems to have resolved and they are on my grocery store shelves – and in my belly – once again.
I’ve always been a big reader (thanks mom and dad!), and when e-readers were new I was quite skeptical: I couldn’t imagine ever not preferring a “real” book. But eventually I got a Kindle, then another and another (when the tech was improving exponentially), and at some point I stopped reading books any other way. I still remember the moment, 5 years ago, when I was on vacation and browsing in a used bookstore and I caught myself thinking, “oooh, I wonder if this one is available digitally?”
These days, I prefer my Kindle for all of the reasons FCM and Taters state. I do most of my reading in bed at night, and the Kindle is so much easier than an actual book: I can adjust the text appearance and backlight, I can “turn” pages without moving either hand, it’s very light, etc.
For whatever reason, I’m not a fan of reading on my phone, computer, or iPad. I love my Kindle, but that’s where the e-books end for me.
When my mom was still alive, she had a couple of extended hospital stays: I never knew that ICU psychosis was still an actual thing until she developed it during one stay. She hallucinated, had paranoid panic attacks, and would start crying when told no one was there. Luckily for her it was temporary and only lasted about a week, but holy CRAP was that hard to watch. Terrifying and heartbreaking, and it gave me a whole new appreciation for the families of folks with dementia.
No kidding! Wow!!
I just pulled a dozen mini-frittatas out of the oven. I made them with bacon and ham (and cheese, of course) this time.
Happy Hump Day!
I’m tired.
It’s another bright, breezy, beautiful day. Only 69 degrees though, so a little chilly.
I was up half the night.
My knee hurt, the internet went out, the hall light burned out, the motion detector light went out, the cat came in when the dogs went out. They chased the cat up the stairs, then under the bed, then back down the stairs. I was ready to knock the shit out of all three of them. Then my son called to come get him, he got off irk two hours early.
I told him, GET YOUR DAMNED LICENSE!
At least when he got home, he put batteries in the motion detector light and reset the modem. He can replace the bulb in the hall light whenever. We don’t use it that often.
I used to read a lot, not so much anymore. Probably because I’d rather browse the internet. I prefer a kindle. I got rid of most of my books, got the space back and I don’t have to dust them anymore.
Right now, I’m ready to throw away everything in this house. It’s getting on my nerves.
I’m sorry for your FIL, FCD
Ugh, just woke up. I fell asleep typing this.
As soon as I get the dogs and take my son to irk, I’m going to bed.
Happy Birthday Sari.
I slept finally. I got up early but went back to bed and slept past noon. I was awakened by a thunderboomer. There is more on the way.
There’s a pot roast smelling great in the slow cooker. More than ready for it to be done. Also more gardening on tap for the afternoon if the rain holds off.
Me too! Made me smile from a thousand miles away. Good on you both. Many happy returns in a long life to come.
Happy Birthday, Sari!
I got nothin’. I was going out with some friends this evening, but one of said friend’s kids just tested positive for COVID, so will probably hold off on our scheduled jaunt. We had a ton of thunderboomers in the early morning, so I’ve been up off and on since 4 a.m. Today has been a sleepy but productive day.
Also, really weird. I got a text from a family member (who my sister & I got in touch with because of my dad’s illness & subsequent death) saying that they bumped into yet another long-lost family member of ours at a conference - evidently a relation of my dad’s that even my dad didn’t know existed. I seem to keep acquiring relations.
Huh, small world.
Anyway, off to finish the workday. And hopefully shower. I was going to waddle this morning, got caught up in meetings, so now I’m hanging about, unshowered, at 3:30 PM.
Welcome home metal mouse!
jane the cane, you sound like my sister with Nelson’s Auntie Ginger. Maybe not the brightest pupper in the pack, but at least she’s pretty.
Happy birthday sari!
I know that I’ve said it before Moooooooom, but dementia sucks. My mom would have hallucinations from it occasionally. Mostly, we just went along with them and tried to reassure her.
Hope that your hubby can get some sleep rebo.
I’m with Moooooom on the e-books. I still have a bunch of hard copies (I donated 5 carloads of books before moving here 5 years ago), but am working on weeding them out for donation before the time comes to move again.
Irked, came home, walked Nelson (he got to play with Sully and Sugar again), and et. Once KP is done, I’ll mess around in the studio.
Stay safe and healthy y’all!
Howdy Y’all! Provisions were procured. We will not starve for at least six to seven days now. OK, we would not have starved anyway, not with freezers and a pantry full of food. We enjoyed some quality cee-mint pond time, nappage, sloth, a little day drinkin’, and general overall uselessness. We remembered that Sonny’s hump day special is still on through the end of the month, so we made the executive decision to N.O,L. there. We shall have the grilled chikin sallits tomorrow.
Rebo hope hubby is feelin’ better today and glad he got a good night’s sleep.
Taters hope everything is OK with Polar, poor baby.
Wheelie glad the spousal unit and you had a good anniversary. I did, indeed, clutch my pearls. I also swooned but never full on fainted so I did not use my faintin’ couch.
Nellie it’s grilled chikin on top of a garden sallit. I sometimes make chikin sallit with smoked chikin boobs. It’s sooooooooooo good that way!
Butters yay for a good night’s sleep!
Love it when the landscaper calls and says “We’re done!”
Very nice!
Gorgeous!
Late afternoon/early evening all. Have pretty much re-established myself at home, bags are fully unpacked and shopping/bill-paying/car-gassing have been completed and no nappage necessary. May run up north here a bit to do the Braunsweiger run, I have AT&T coming tomorrow to install a new (and supposedly better/faster/cheaper) internet, so we’ll see how that goes. Mowage is now planned for Firday.
quietly, nice look–and no mowage necessary!
{Sari}. Sounds like the day could only get better with that start…and a most Happy Birthday.
Afternoon Delight?
OK, off to the store for some evening shopping. All y’all take care.
We survived the boat ride. When boarding, one of the marina guys was there and he helped FIL to get aboard. When we returned, we were able to tie up really close, and daughter and I helped him ashore. No worries about him climbing to the flying bridge - he was cold and he stayed in the cabin the whole time. We were out maybe 2 hours. Toby drooled on me for much of the time.
Docking wasn’t what we’d hoped - the boat doesn’t back well, so we ended up going in head first. Not a big problem, except the hull goes up at the bow, so it’s big step down. We’ll have to come up with some sort of ladder or step. A task for another day.
After Wheel and Jeopardy, FCD will start packing the car. They’ll hit the road early, hoping to do it all in one day, but willing to stop if necessary. So we’ll see. I get to stay home and fret.
I just hope he can sleep tonight - can’t have him falling asleep at the wheel. FIL is already saying he can drive, FCD said he can’t drive the Caddy…
Thus endeth my day. No more complaining from me. Well, for a while, anyway…
The ‘scaping looks great, quietly!
Mooooom, glad the boat ride got accomplished without incident. I know you’d rather not have done it at all, but it sounds like the second-best-case scenario. Also glad you’ll be getting some quiet time very soon.
Oh, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY SARI!!!
I found a new braunschweiger at Aldis and since it’s the only one they have I don’t think it’s one of their “blink and its gone” items which aggravates me to no end because for example I have a pack of boneless ribs and I bought a bag of slow cooker sauce but didn’t know I needed two and by the time I got around to get another one it was a week later and they were gone and haven’t been seen since …
I sympathize. I got a pork schnitzel from Costco that I really liked, but they never stocked it again.
Very nice and very fire defensible. How old is that palm? Just wondering how fast they grow.
FCM, I’m so glad the boat trip went well.
I love my Kindle, but I also enjoy pulp fiction and most of that isn’t available in e-format. Like you, I don’t like reading on my phone or desktop. I have a Kindle Firestar that doubles as a tablet, so I guess I’m OK reading on a tablet, LOL.
Dang, your night like a week worth of trouble. Do you have a three day weekend coming up? If so, could you use a day to just sleep? If you don’t take care of yourself, you can’t take care of every one else.
At the end, Dad didn’t know who I was. He thought I was a nice stranger and loved to tell me his stories. It was really hard to not cry when he told me stories of me, but I did my best to not upset him. Besides, even if I did convince him that I was his oldest daughter, he would forget again a very short time later.
It sucked.
Today was the one day a week that I get up early because surplus produce starts at 8am. We got some lovely bell peppers (I’ve given up growing them, they need more water and shade than I can provide) and pickle sized cukes. I have learned that I can’t do good dill pickles, so I gave them away cause hubs doesn’t like sweet pickles. We also got a nice frozen pork shoulder. It’s interesting to me to track which protein source is trending in the boxes, we got chicken for months and now we are getting pork.
We ordered some birdseed from Chewy and FedEx thought that one of the boxes should go to on a tour of the coast before being delivered. It was supposed to arrive today, I’m wondering where it will go next.
Maybe three years. It started as a wild growth at the foot of a tree that died. We had the tree removed but left the palm. It has thrived.
Very cool, thank you!
