A Mountains, Furniture, and Dogs MMP

And you were worried about your father?

OK, I have no idea what’s going on and I haven’t read anything (except Mama Tigs above post about LiLi’s uncle… that’s an odd conversation to come in in the middle of!). Our weekend in Chicago was great, and my extra day off yesterday to catch up was good. But it looks like work’s going to be as busy as last week… I may be MIA for a while!

Haze if it’s after breakfast but before lunch, then it’s brunch sex.

LiLi glad your dad is ok.

I’m home early today just cause. Actually I brought some stuff home so I’ll be workin’ a little tonight. In a bit Ima go light the grill and grill some chicken bosoms. I have a big sallit made and I’ll slice ‘em up on top of the sallit. Good supper! I might even do some cheesey bread. Ol y’all know who is stayin’ over tonight. We have not had a spend the night night in a while due to the recent unpleasant cold I was sufferin’.

donkeybear since you have directions, do I need to leave a light on? :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, off to do stuff.

Later Y’all!

Three down, one to go! Yes, that’s right - one to go, because tomorrow will be my Firday.

The weather was not as warm today, but it’s beautiful again. I’d love it if we could have weather like this year round. I know, dream on! LOL

I shall have to try out the Swampy Potatoes & Onions Casserole, it does sound good. Hugs and good stuff to those who need them.

OK- so I’m not in a happy place–

Our retiring division chair took us for beers and food, which was nice. However, since I was passed over his position (which it’s own frustrating story), I was feeling blue about the whole thing, especially as the person who was appointed was there talking about how we’ll need to help him be chair because he’s not clear on certain policies etc.

Then I get home and check my work email and find a memo from one of our Dean’s talking about how we need to dress appropriately at work despite it being summer etc- I was in today to clean out my lab so I dressed casually since I would be mucking around when it so happens that he stopped by. So I’m guessing that comment was for me. Yeah.

I am feeling very down about work at the moment. The semester cannot end soon enough, and thinking of a Plan B sounds awfully good right now.

When I first read this, I thought it said “I’m considering buying a HOUSE today…” and I thought “WOW! Now that’s an impulse purchase!” :stuck_out_tongue:

:frowning:
What plan B? I know what academic politics are like – if you’re still teaching it’s because you love it, despite the back-stabbing; you know you’re not going anywhere. I just hope things work out for you there.

**Haze **-- you just want us to be jealous.
You’re doing a good job…

**Lili **-- glad Dad’s OK. Your uncle. OTOH…

**Spaz **-- what happened? :frowning:

1 AM. Still working; as usual lately, I guess. At least I’m working in my sleeping clothes, from home… This project cannot end soon enough!

Plan B- oh, I have an idea trickling around this little head of mine…

The problem is that I’m not sure I still love it… there are many people there I adore and would miss and would let down if I left, though…

I need the summer to refresh and regroup and come to some work-related decisions. Lots of time sitting on my deck with cool wind blowing around me to clear my head. And Sangria. Lots of that too! I’m planning on writing a book/text I’ve been thinking about- so that will be interesting!

:: hugs for Prof. Rapunzel ::

Thanks, swampy, now I know what to call it. :stuck_out_tongue:

I don’t think the email was directed at you or caused by his seeing you in casual clothes. And even if it was, surely he doesn’t expect you to clean stuff out in more formal attire? I think he’s trying to prevent spaghetti straps and short shorts from appearing mid-summer…

Sorry you’re down re work. I share your pain. I feel like I’m suspended between 2 fields, neither of which entices me a great deal at this point. Don’t tell anyone that, especially not my parents whom I will see this weekend and who are over the moon about this library thing. I’ve come to the crossroads–I can’t stay where I am and I don’t want to go where I thought I did (or so I think right now). That, and I really need to lose 15 pounds. Other than that, I’m great, 'cept for that pending separation and stuff. Anyway, my point is, I feel (something like) your pain and I hope you find your way, 99 [sup]44/100ths[/sup].

Ok, this turned into an odd post. I have to go get ready for the athletics banquet–I’m taking #2 son to it (using The Husband’s ticket).

No comment on** LiLi’s** dad or uncle, just

Nooner–those hours sound sucky. Too bad for you… ugh.

Can the sun come out please? Especially since I turned on the a/c yesterday? I am NOT turning it off again anytime soon.

So I call in to work this morning to see if I can come in a couple of hours late to give my eyes time to adjust to the new glasses. (Speaking of adjusting, I need to go back to the eye doctor to get them un-askewed. Slightly higher on the right they are.) Complicated Roommate wanted to get breakfast buffet at K&W, so I said sure and we hopped in his car because he needed to get a whiff of gas.

We got stopped at a train after getting gas. The thing to know about trains in this town is that they all move v e r y s l o w l y because they’re all carrying lovely chemicals (like sulfur) to the pharmaceutical plants. They’re forbidden by law to go over 20mph and most of them are looooooooong and stop a lot. This was such a train. I admit, I was bitching about waiting because I was hungry and I get evil when I’m hungry. Complicated spun the car around when we got to a turn-around place and went to take a different route. He took the curve at the intersection at about 30 and immediately started skidding on the slightly-wet road. The car jumped the curb and stopped. The front passenger tire had been gouged on the concrete and was flat.

So he called the cops and a tow truck and had the car taken to the local Ford place. The cop gave Complicated a warning ticket and gave us a ride to the Ford place as well. Complicated used to work at Ford, so he chatted with a few of his former co-workers and got the company driver to take us to IHOP for a much-delayed breakfast. I called in Archivin’ Work and asked off until 1, when I was supposed to be on the desk.

I had to run to the bank to get the money to pay since Complicated doesn’t get paid until next week. (He’s paying me back, fear not.) I get back to the Ford place, ready to pay…and the guy who replaced the tire is at lunch. No one knows where he put the keys to the car, so we hang around some more. I call in work to give up on coming in today because I’m still tense from the accident. The guy with the keys shows up and we go back home.

My eyes have adjusted to my new glasses, though.

I just watched The Little Mermaid again. I dunno why I get all teary-eyed at the end. I’m such a sap.

Hey everyone, just got off work. According to the reviews, I’m not looking forward to going to this training meeting tomorrow. It’s literally a mandatory meeting with “SOP” in its name, which means we’re all going to relearn the proper ways to do everything, and then ignore them in favor of the things that work.

I might post more later. I’ve got a pair of pants that need to be converted in to capris. (They’re maybe a half-inch too short. Stoopid dryer.)

I hate Rachel Ray.
perhaps you get teary because subconsciously you realize that Ariel, as depicted by that Mother effing Mouse has given up a huge part of her soul for an unworthy other person, ie some stupid prince? I know I have huge discomfort with that message aimed at my kids… Hell, soon I’ll be rooting for Ursula! or Cruelle DaVille etc. At least they’re not smarmy as hell and sexist to boot.

Ok, so maybe that was a little stronger than it needed to be.

Off to run around like a maniac for awhile.

Home, tired, going for a walk.

Back later with pronouns.

GT

Well, it does have a terrible message if you think about it. I recently read an essay about the movie, which perhaps made me more sensitive to certain issues, but basically Eric becomes, for Ariel, a symbol of the human world for which she longs so desperately, which is sad because in the first part of the movie the human world is symbolized through books and paintings - artifacts of knowledge. And after all the shit she has to go through, in the end Eric is the one who kills Ursula, and Triton is the one who turns Ariel into a human. Not to mention her voice becomes objectified as a symbol of her femininity rather than an instrument of her agency.

Of course, such subtle things escaped me as a child. And I still enjoy the movie; just differently than I did fifteen years ago.

I have a free ticket to a Bellx1 concert today. Apparently it’s sold out, but my friend got me on the guest list. Been awhile since I’ve gone to a gig by myself. Kinda looking forward to it.

I hope you’re right. The timing just seemed… coincedental. We (in the Science division) are sensitive about how we dress- we are much more casual that the other divisions (esp Business) since we spend so much time around chemical crap.

Thanks for the sympathetic words. It’s hard. I’ve wanted to be a prof sice second grade (really)- my parents used to call me the “little professor”, dopy, I know. It’s hard to struggle with a job that becomes an identity. And don’t worry, your secret is safe with me!

donkeybear have we not had the conversation about how manpris are a fashion don’t? :dubious:

Supper was nummy. I added some craisins and chopped pecans to the sallit and used a wunnerful vinegarette dressing. I even made cheesey bread. Ok, I sliced some bread, put cheese on to and toasted it. It counts as cookin’ cause it means turnin’ on the oven.

Anywho, supper is et, ice cream has been had and shortly ol’ y’all know who will be had.

Think I’ll go hop in the shower to freshen up.

Later Y’all!

Yeah… manpris are a big ol’ DON’T. Trust your uncles on this.

I was going to make a comment on how bad man capris are, but I see it’s been taken care of.
