Thank you everyone for being all industrious on my behalf. It’s exhausting just to read what everyone’s been up to. I’ve been a complete slug. I played some online games on Yahoo. And re-watched some season 2 *Remington Steele * episodes. And ate chocolate.
Just now put a load of laundry in the washer and returned a call to one of my friends. Now I’m going to crawl into bed and continue reading Harry Potter (I’m about 2/3s through a re-read of 5). I figure I might make it through a couple of loads of laundry while I’m reading, but if I don’t, I don’t. I’m tired and still trying to get rid of my cough. (Glad you’re feeling better, Mindfield.)
So I’ve condemned myself to go into work tomorrow (I’d planned to go today). Guess I’ll do that right after church. Since I’ve been so motivated here, I don’t think I want to risk trying to bring the work home; I’d probably just laze around and I really need to get some stuff read.
Off to read for a while.
::Closes eyes, plugs ears and begins to chant: "I don’t see rosie’s post; I will not go to JigZone today. I don’t see rosie’s post; I will not go to JigZone today. I don’t see rosie’s post; I will not go to JigZone today. I don’t see rosie’s post; I will not go to JigZone today…::
in case anyone is wondering - when OilMan left, I heard the sounds of a working burner, however 3 hours later and the house is still an ice box - but I am tired and cannot wait up another 4 hours, so I told them to come in the morning. Helluva time to be without heat, I tell you.
Thanks for the well-wishes. NyQuil has helped dry me out to moderate levels. I suspect that as bad as this cold feels in my head at the moment, this is about as bad as it’s going to get. It seems to be largely restricted to my left nostril for some reason, but there’s no cough (thank Og) or significant chest congestion, so with any luck this will just be one of those ones that hangs around for a week or less and then goes away. I’ve been taking my vitamins and eating pretty good stuff regularly so my immune system ought to be more or less up to snuff. Or sniff as the case may be. I haven’t eaten much today though. A coffee, a tea, and a bowl of cereal (Special K) has pretty much done me all day. Colds really throw me out of whack…
MindWife is feeling a little better. It took two Oxycodone tabs in as many hours to knock the pain down to manageable levels. She only got a scrip for 10 tabs though, so hopefully that should be enough to last her 'til her dentist appointment on Monday. I expect this new doc will probably have to do an extraction. But at least it will take care of the problem once and for all.
In the mean time I think I’ll console my sick-ass self by using up the rest of my month’s EMusic allotment of music downloads and find me some new chunes to feed my iPod. Music always helps me feel better.
I take it “chunes” isn’t recognizable slang in your parts. Maybe it’s a Canadian thing. It seems to stem from the tendency of some dialects to morph the “tu” into “chu” when pronouncing “tunes.” I think it’s originally a British thing, actually, from the way your average Londoner dialect pronounces the word, preferring the long U (Tyewns) over the short (toons).
All the same, I stand by my “choons.” Not to be confused with “shrooms.”
I am back from work, beer is poured and dog walked(in reverse order). The Canes lost tonight, . It’s going to be a long day tomorrow, unless the heavens open up, then it might be short.
We are back from dinner and chatting with our friends. We had originally planned on going to a particualr restaurant, but they didn’t have any more reservations when our friends tried to make them. So, they told us they always reserve tables for walk-ins. The problem was we would have had to wait until after 8:00 pm (2 hours) to get a table.
So, we passed on that restaurant, and walked down the street to a brew pub and grill. It was alright food and we had a good time. The porter was good too.
After dinner, we opted to come back here and chat awhile. They’ve left and now the hubby and I are going to play some WoW.
We also just found out the hubby’s license plate tabs expired last month. :o
We totally forgot about them. So, now we’ll have take care of that on Monday.
We’re having a blizzard. At least the temp is 32F with a windchill of 23F. The crab fishery closed and skiffman is on his way back home from the east side of the island. It would be nice if he came draggin in tonight, but I suspect that they are snugged up in some bay, waiting out the storm. I made him a mince pie and a batch of oatmeal raisin cookies, so he will be pleased. I need to rummage around and find something out of the freezer for dinner tomorrow. Deer or elk? Salmon or halibut? I hate having to try and decide what I’m gonna want to eat tomorrow!
It pleases me no end that y’all are getting hooked on JigZone! I have a friend on one of my dog lists who chooses one photo a week to turn into a puzzle and sends it to the list…I have been addicted for a few years now. Maybe tomorrow I will put up some of my own photos for you guys.
The Son is spending the night at a friends, so #3 and I have just been lazing around. We have definite chores for tomorrow, but besides the baking we washed all the bedding on my bed and got it made. When The Son comes home tomorrow he has a lot of snow shoveling to do!
I too have had The Sick this week, a combination of what brainpasture has been batteling, along with severe GI inflammation. Nothing being ejected, just a burning in my guts. Lovely. At least it made my kitchen duties simple, the kids foraged most of the week, and the night I roasted chicken I roasted two, and pulled all the uneaten meat off the carcasses so we had plenty of sammitch meat. The chicken was real good, too, the skin was all crispy and just a bit salty, and I stuffed it with sprigs of rosemary and slpit a Golden Delicious apple between the two. The meat was falling off the bones, and it was yum!
It’s just hooting midnight (I have a bird call clock) so I suppose I should get into my jammies and proceed with getting into bed. I hope that everyone is tucked into bed and sleeping (or whatever)! I’ll try to jump back in tomorrow…g’night all!
Up early again - Brandy decided about 6 to come sneeze in my face, then crawl under the covers. She snoozed at my feet for about 15 minutes till I decided I wasn’t staying in bed any longer - so she’s probably not at all happy with me. But the doggies love me - they’ve been walked and fed, and they’re crashed - Bernie behind me and Scruffy under my desk.
Among my thrilling plans for today will be sorting papers. The upper left desk drawer is pack-jammed full of papers. I need to sort and file or toss all of them. So once we do our grocery run, that’s what I’ll be taking on. Plus there’s the rest of the laundry and a certain amount of cooking which will come up. Good times… good times…
The mystery of the day is: will it snow or no? Last weekend we were threatened with all kinds of rain for 3 days, and got barely a drizzle. So it remains to be seen if the weather guessers got it right this time. It also remains to be seen if it’ll affect my commute tomorrow.
OK, Scruffy is officially on The List. Overnight, she ate all the cat’s food (Brandy just came to me yelling about that) and peed in the dining room (I just saw that when I went to feed Brandy. So we’ll be getting a crate and she’ll be crated when we’re not with her - which means when we go to work, leave the house, or go to bed. And if she keeps attacking Bernie like she did last night, she will be finding a new home, and I don’t care how attached **FCD ** is to her…
Sheesh, try to do a good deed, and this is what you get… stoopit dog.
Ooooh, hope you can get Scruffy under control, FCM.
I actually meant to ask about your heating, rosie, but my brain wasn’t very functional by the time I got around to posting. Hope they can fix it today.
We have just a teensy bit of snow. Sidewalks and streets are white, but lawns aren’t quite there yet.
I have the next load of laundry in the washer and am going to do a quick clean up round. I’m thinking I might hop through the shower and then try going to get some of the stuff I have to read so that I can get started before church. If I don’t get much done, then I’ll head for work after church. Hmmmm. I’d really like to be able to do laundry while I’m reading. Maybe I can be self-disciplined today?
::Shakes fist at kai:: (I think my reaction to the mention of JigZone is now automated.)
Hope Skiffman gets home safely and soon. And hope you’re feeling better! Mindy and MindWife too!
Chunes… hee. Certainly heard it pronounced that way before, but never sean it written.
It’s supposed to snow here, too, FCM, but the forecast currently says that it’ll probably stay snow up this way but turn to freezing rain down your way. Which could definitely affect your commute. Or, if it moves up this way, Papa Tigs’ commute. So we shall see.
Sorry about Scruffy – here’s hoping you can teach her to behave!
Cats are weird. I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and apparently while I was doing my business, Emily went on four complete rampaging circles of the bed, including running the length of Papa Tigs’ back each time. Of course, by the time I came out of the bathroom, she was peacefully waiting for me and just calmly came back up and snuggled with me; I had no idea anything had happened while I was gone. Why do cats do that?
I’ve got a whole boatload of stuff to get done today, so I’d better get to it. Happy Sunday, everyone!
Oh, dear. Bad ScruffyDog. I hope she shapes up. It is a she, right?
Mindfield, I’m glad you’re feeling better.
I slept on the couch half of the night because of Mr. Lissar’s coughing. I came to bed, he moved to the couch. He’s just headed back to bed. Poor darling. He didn’t have cough suppressant medicine left last night.
It’s snowing! It’s supposed to keep snowing on and off for a week! Yay!
Yesterday QD, Her Other Best Best, AT and I went out shopping. AT held things and made judicious comments. He actually has opinions about clothes. And he holds piles of garments very well. QD needed a bunch of clothes for work- sort of professional-ish but she gets smeared with all sorts of stuff, so they have to be really washable.
I got a new pair of pants, and a new pair of pants for Mr. Lissar. They’re the same as the pair we got before Christmas that he loves. And two t-shirt to replace the shirt I just wrecked with bleach.
We came home, made dinner, talked about QD’s love-life, and established that she does want to marry DH, but maybe not for a bit. She wants to work abroad for a year, and he wants to go to Russia to train, so she’s not sure she wants to get engaged yet. I personally think if you’re both intending to get married then you really are sort of engaged, but whatever.
Afterwards we went to Lazy Husband’s and watched Robocop. Dang, that’s a bad movie.
ScruffyDog has a temporary reprieve. **FCD ** is down in ManLand building her a crate. It’s going to sit in the living room between the couch and the piano - as out of sight as we can make it. We don’t use the living room except as a passage from the family room to the bedrooms, so that’ll work for us. And the rule will be - if we’re not home or awake, she’s crated. And if she pees or poos in the crate, it won’t ruin the carpet. That’s Brandy the Horker’s job. So we’ll see how that goes.
And speaking of Brandy, she was just here on my chair trying to see what I was eating. I warmed up the last of the Polish sausage and sauerkraut for my lunch. I set the bowl down on the desk, and she stuck her snoot into it. I assumed she’d leave in disgust. Nope - she started lapping up the sauerkraut brine!! What a marroon!! Needless to say, I put a stop to that! Stoopit cat.
So, errands have been run, another load is in the wash, and I have a pile of papers that need to be sorted. I’ve also got a 4+ pound package of ground beef that needs to be divided into 1# packages and frozen, except for the pound I’ll brown to make another batch of chili. Which I’ll then freeze in individual serving containers for FCD’s lunches. I’ve also got two large baked chicken tits that need to be chopped up for chickie salad. And we got a sack o’mussels for supper. I’m gonna have dishpan hands from all the hand-washing I’ll be doing as I cook. I HATE HATE HATE icky hands.
And now that lunch is done, I must start sorting papers. No snow yet, but many many clouds and lots of coldness out there. Wonder if we’ll get a last start tomorrow? A girl can dream…
I’m up and waiting for the coffee to finish. I needs it, I tell ya.
I hope things can be worked out with Scruffydog. It’s kind of funny how the smallest dog has the biggest Napolean complex, huh?
Ah, the coffee is done, just had to get up and get some.
Nothing too exciting going on in the household. Mr. Taters has had another reprieve from helping my mother with her tree. My sister called last night while we were out and had to cancel for tomorrow.
My plans include laundry. I lead such an exciting life.
Dinner will be pot roast that I’ve cooked in the slow cooker. As soon as my son gets up I’ll have to send him to my neighbor’s house for an onion. I discovered that I’m out of onions. I can’t believe it. I ALWAYS have onions. Once I have an onion or two, I can start the pot roast.
I’m glad folks are starting to feel somewhat better.
Well, I’m up after a good 7 hour sleep, but caffeination is still forthcoming. At the risk of making it think I’m challenging it, I think my cold is starting to shuffle off this mortal coil. I can breathe through my nose, and unless the NyQuil is still working hard (unlikely given that I took it just before bed) the unwelcome employees at my mucous factory appear to be punching out. If it keeps up at this rate I’ll be back to that four letter word tomorrow feeling better than I did when I left on Friday. Yay for a kickass immune system!
MindWife’s tooth still hurts, but the Oxycodone is doing what it was designed for. My only concern is whether or not she’ll have enough to last 'til her appointment tomorrow. She has only 4 of the 10 left, having just taken one a short while ago. Still, at least she’s able to eat and talk for the most part, which is a hell of a lot better than screaming in pain. Yay for controlled narcotics!
The well-wishes are greatly appreciated. I’m certainly on the mend and I’m sure by Tuesday MindWife should be too, even if she probably won’t be able to eat solid food for a few days. But that’s okay. She can have my Ghetto Fabulous Soup that I got her hooked on. (A can of tomato soup with 1-1/2 cans of water, two packets of Lipton Beef Vegetable Cup-A-Soup, and a cup of cooked broken angel hair pasta, served with a sprinkle of shredded Parmesan cheese on top. Cheap and tasty!)
I ended up downloading some new chunes (yes, chunes) as I said I would. My iPod is satiated, as will my ears be on my daily bus(ted) trip.
