Do we know that the ghosts are there because they’re being punished karmically? The doctor does seem to be a pretty messed up guy, but some of the other ghosts seem to be just misfortunate people who happened to die there. We didn’t seem the nursing students much, but they seemed normal. One of them was even staying in to study instead of going out to a concert if I’m remembering correctly. The twins were obnoxious and destructive, but since that applies to many teenagers it doesn’t seem worth eternal karmic punishment. We also haven’t yet seen the ghosts of some people who do deserve karmic punishment, like Constance’s husband and Larry’s wife.
I’m guessing at some point this season there will be some explanation for who comes back as a ghost and why they’re trapped there, though I’m not expecting it to necessarily make sense or be consistent. But I’m enjoying the show and its craziness, and I’ll keep watching as long as it’s entertainingly crazy.
He didn’t say he killed her. Nora asked him “how?” [he revived the baby], and he said, “I used the heart of one of our girls.” I assume “our girls” means the patients. whether he killed her or she died of complications, or otherwise “naturally” wasn’t stated.
Well, she did eat the offal because it was presented as “natural.” I expect those traits will be back, but there really hasn’t been much opportunity for cello playing lately.
One might think that from a standard gothic horror thematic perspective, but based on what we’ve seen on the show, I think you just have to die on the premises. We haven’t seen all the ghosts that “should” be there (like Larry’s wife and kids, Constance’s husband, etc.) and I’m sure we’ll find out more murders happened there, if the show lasts more than a season. The whole bit with Constance dragging Addy to the lawn and Addy being thankful she didn’t get there in time kinda points to the house being some kind of vortex that collects the ghosts of people who died there, whatever their karmic state.
On another topic, do you think Constance steals because she needs the money or do you think she’s just a kleptomaniac? We do know she ebays some of it (she said as much to the maid).
I don’t think it was Addy and I wouldn’t characterize Constance’s feeling that way based on her efforts to drag her onto the property before she expired.
Well, I’m assuming the medium is legit. She said Addy was thankful. Addy’s spirit was scared of Tate and didn’t want to be trapped there with him. If the medium is a fake, that evidence is suspect. But yeah, Constance clearly wanted Addy to expire on the property so she wouldn’t “lose” her. It had nothing to do with karma, only coordinates.
Catching the end of DWTS last night (my wife and daughter were watching - honest!), where all the contestants participated in a big number, I realized, Sampiro, how right you are that AHS needs a big musical with all the ghosts, perhaps each getting his or her few bars to express their demise - through dance.
Yuck. I think the stuff with Chad and Patrick was way over-the-top and unnecessary, and the big reveal of Tate as Rubberman took what little suspense they had left away. They’ve lost all of their ghostly creep factor in favor of more realistic horrors. And frankly, I’m not into it. I much prefer the idea of not knowing everything that goes on (and has gone on) behind those walls. Getting all the answers just makes the whole thing boring as hell.
This timeline seems to be fairly comprehensive, if a bit speculative, but has a lot of information I don’t recognize from the show - perhaps from the website and spoilery?
