Thats how I heard it too…I was amusing myself at least.
Let’s hear it for the boy, let’s give the boy a hand…
I’m actually going to miss the kid. No delusions about his talent- he has a pleasant voice that might be better one day but it’s totally the knife in a gunfight around Jordin and Melinda (the knife in the swordfight with the rest and the knife in a weirdly sexy Ninja fight with Blake). However, he seems like a sweet kid and no one should have to put up with that much shit at 17 (I mean can you imagine being a 17 year old [probably gay] kid and being called Sanjina and Girl of the Day by Maxim magazine? Fuckers.).
I hope he has a good agent because if he takes some endorsement deals and the like he can totally rack up over the next year before he’s forgotten. And now it’s a countdown before he’s on Broadway as Angel in RENT.
Well, shalom and sayonara Sanjaya. I thought it would have been Chris first, but what the hey. Can’t believe Blake was in the bottom 3, but I bet it won’t happen again; he probably has a lot of fans who figured millions of others were voting for him. (It’s not that he’s super talented, but he’s cute and unique and certainly mayo over lite mayo above Phil and Chris.)
I think with Sanjaya we watched the end of innocence. I think he was just talented enough to realize that he wasn’t talented enough to beat out the other singers who’ve gone before him in the regular rounds of competition.
It must have been quite a personal blow, realizing that his favorite singing show wasn’t really about singing after all. Then, to be voted in again week after week to endure more ridicule and dismissal. Musta sucked.
He’s got some mileage left in him. he looked great in those shades in the Ford Commercial. Maybe modeling is in his future.
Now that you remind me of that … he did look kind of hot in the commercial.
[sub]I feel dirty[/sub]
When was the commercial? I skipped over it but I still have the episode.
It was probably about 20 to 30 minutes into the show. I am going by memory.
Aw, I’m bummed. I wanted him to stay and stay until people foamed at the mouth. Where’s the tension now? And this is too soon! The polarizing contestant is supposed to go sixth, not seventh! And I lost a bet!
Oh, frabjous day! […happy dance…] And now the really tough part begins. Will someone pull an upset as we head to a Chris and Melinda final?
So glad Sanjaya’s gone, but I could have handled him for one more week just to get rid of Chris. What a suck voice. I can’t believe he’s gotten this far.
All I could think of during the group song was
We’re gonna keep on, keep on, keep on, keep on dancing all through the night.
We’re gonna keep on, keep on, keep on doin’ it right
We’re gonna keep on, keep on , keep on movin’
Gonna keep on, keep on, keep on groovin’
Keep on singing and dancing all through the night!
Right down to cheesy switching-positions choreography.
I don’t normally watch the “vote off” show, so maybe it’s like that every week.
At least Liberal can clean out the puke from his heart.
I was a little surprised at how emotional the kid was after the vote-off. I mean, had he really deluded himself that he might win? I would have expected more of a sense of relief and a self-effacing chuckle, well, I guess the ride is over but it sure as hell was nice while it lasted, maybe a single tear with a smile. The kid was sobbing into LaKisha’s shoulder, then continued crying during the video montage.
I think he actually thought he was going all the way, which is kind of sad in a pathetic sort of way. Someone must have been filling his head with unrealistic expectations.
I didn’t watch it this week, just skipped to the end, Sanjaya is singing, okay he’s off, back to life. But, yes, it is like that everyweek,
So, someone tell me what he changed in the lyrics.
If you didn’t watch the show, you missed Simon’s grovelling clarification.
What did you think of it Lib? Do you think it was an error he chose to clarify or something the producers said “CLARIFY OR ELSE?”
I perceived a little tinge of honesty in his grovel.
I’m betting he insisted on clarifying it, the producers be damned. Simon understands full well that there’s a delicate balance between villain and enemy, and he knows which one will make him wealthy. But beyond that, I don’t think he had the capacity to be so callous. He isn’t mean; he’s just brutally honest.
Well, dammit! I go to a Tragically Hip concert for the first time in over 6 years (friggin’ awesome, BTW) and I missed Sanjaya getting the hook?! I was going to avoid all media and this thread until I watched it tonight, but every radio station this morning started talking about it and I didn’t hit the volume in time. It was even on the frakkin’ news!
Even if I had managed to leave the radio off, one of my co-workers came into my office doing her happy-dance and yelling “Yay! Sanjaya’s gone!”
Grrrr.
I think it was sincere explanation for a misinterpretation that was caught on camera. I’ve seen him in interviews and he doesn’t seem like an asshole to me.
I agree completely. When he started on the hair stuff, I got the feeling that it finally dawned on him that there was no way he could beat out anybody. So, what do you do? Play up something else and have fun, which is exactly what he did. And it worked. That was pretty intelligent of him, btw.
I’m way happier about Sanjaya being gone than a grown woman should be. This was me at the end of last night’s show: pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease … yesssssss!
Random thoughts: Now if Chris goes home next week, we’ll have a pretty damn good top five. Lakisha should go home next week, followed by Phil. Could Jordin beat out Melinda for a spot in the final two with Blake? It’s possible, I think. It might also get interesting if Phil continues to improve and Blake ends up going before he does. I thought Jordin and Phil sounded great during the group sing last night. Martina McBride almost put me to sleep, but Fergie actually sounded pretty good. Why can’t more of her singles sound like that?
