American Idol 4/17

Right comment from Simon regarding to Lakisha… and why was she singing a song from a former American Idol competitor???

I like the name Mayberry and all (it being what the M stands for) but I can’t imagine anyone but a purebred country singer singing this song.

Chris doesn’t have the voice for this song.

Richardson now. Something called “Mayberry?”

Ouch. High pitched, nasal whining. How did this guy ever get past the first audition?

His pitch is spotty but not terrible. His tone is flat out painful.

Where in the bloody ever-loving hell did Chris find a white Members Only jacket? And more importantly: why? This song is yucky too. I hate country night, you guys!

Not enough ice cream in the world, yo.

Oh, ouch! I can forgive someone who doesn’t know they’re singing through their nose, but Chris is aware of this, and does it anyway? Do. Not. Want!

It’s really not. Guy’s a jerkface, girl breaks away determined to make it anyway… it’s empowering. I don’t like what Jordin did with it. More angry determination, please.

If Chris got run over by a tank, would anybody care?

Chris R with the pimpage for V Tech. And the nasal singing is on purpose???

Richardson tries to score points by shouting out to Va. Tech. Tacky.

ETA, and now that Chris has done it, everyone else will have to do it or be seen as a dick.

Both LaKisha and Chris disappointed me, though LaKisha was the bigger surprise. I mean, I hate that song to start with, and I was hoping she’d elevate it to something interesting, but no! She made it boring *and *glurgy!

As for Chris…listen, buddy: You’re what, in your early 20s? Singing a song about a TV show that was old in your time? Nostalgic fakery is the worst fakery of all, IMHO. No wonder you couldn’t wrangle up any emotion in that tune.

“‘Trouble is a woman’ is a song I had never heard before”

Pretty much sums up my thoughts on Melinda every single week.

Melinda sounds superb, of course. And she’s finally doing a song with a little life in it. She looks less mousy too. Best of the night.

I do not know this song that Melinda is singing, but I kind of dig it. A lot of energy. I appreciate that, because I think everyone else has been lackluster.

Simon, thanks! That’s actually who Melinda reminded me of, but I couldn’t put my finger on it. It was very Tina-Turner-esque. Good on her.

Melinda, marvelous. Personality and not another showtune.

Simon said exactly what I was thinking. Melinda’s surprised expressions when she gets praised are starting to look a little fake. I’m too cynical to believe she’s really that sweet. I bet she throws phones at people when the cameras are off.

Ugh, go away. Go away with your squinty eyes and your creep-ass bobblehead. Stop nodding. What the fuck are you nodding at? Honest to god, I would almost rather see Sanjaya win than her, I don’t care if she can sing. She’s so fake! And, see? Simon agrees.

TINA TURNER, SIMON? REALLY?

I’m with you, Diogenes. Melinda had an excellent performance with lots of spirit. I love that song and how she did it.

On Edit: Well, maybe not the phone part…

Blake’s just shitting over such a beautiful song (of course, I mean the songwriter version of “When the Stars Go Blue” by Ryan Adams, with a nod to the pop entertainment of The Corrs with Bono. Mr Faith Hill never did a cover. Nope.)

Blake. “When the Stars Go Blue.” Never heard of it.

Straight performance so far. No gimmicks. He sounds good.

He nailed the falsetto.

he did a good job. He’s in the top two tonight with Melinda.

What is Blake doing? It’s hurting my ears. And with the argyle sweater vest, it seems very emo-screamo to me. Go sing with The Used, you hack!

Sorry. I told you it was going to be a rough night for me.

After posting: Oh, this is a Ryan Adams song? Hmm. I’ll have to hear someone else sing it, then.

Do yourself a favor and search out Ryan Adams’ “Gold” album.

It’s already been pointed out, but why can’t Ryan Adams get any love? I wailed when Blake said it was a “Tim McGraw” song. He didn’t do horribly on it, but it really didn’t do anything for me.
