American Idol Feb. 20-22

It’s a hard song to sing. I know, I sing it loud all the time and it’s got a LOT of words. But AJ sounded like he was 10 years old.

Jared somehow made a song I had vaguely pleasant associations of sound monotone, yet he didn’t sound out of key. It’s like death by bland.

Chris was good but he needs to not get too big for his britches, he’s canny and self-aware and I love seeing someone smart enough to play to their strengths, but if he gets too catty he’ll lose half the country.

Sanjaya…dude, Stevie is searingly hard to do well, you got lucky on the auditions because they were amused by the siblingness. There are maybe three Stevie songs that are accessible for most singers, that wasn’t one of them. I do love the way he smiles like his face is going to break in two, though.

Eeeew, I’d forgotten about Phil. He needs to win me over.

AJ was cheesy and boy band, but ok if you like that kind of stuff.

Pass me the Geritol, rockle. I am feeling OLD. Most of these guys are singing songs that I can’t stand in styles I can’t stand. And what horrifies me is that there’s nothing wrong with the songs or the styles – it’s just that I’m from such a musically different generation that I don’t get all the crap these kids are listening to these days.

Argh. Get offa my lawn, the bunch of you!

But the Backstreet Boys already had an AJ, please tell me there’s not going to be another one of them in the cheesy boyband world…

“My girls” plural?

OK, here he goes. …Use your voice!

He got better in the bridge, but quiet & muddy overall. Does he have a cold, or is his voice just not that big?

The first note…ouch.

Son: Coke addict!
Hubby: Tweaker!
Me: POW escapee!

Nope, it was just Paul Stacey. That was good.

He looks like Noseferatu and he sucks too.

Ok, so Blake, Chris, Sanjaya and maybe Phil just because I’m feeling generous.

Ah, jeez, I bet the Chris who is not Sligh is going to be completely forgotten about.

Agreed. These people have to stop starting their songs too low. Admit your range isn’t what you want it to be.

Remember two seasons or so ago when Edwin McCain implored, nay, begged people to not audition with his music because it was consistently butchered? That still holds true. Damn this sucks.

It’s gotten a little better once he launched into the chorus. But largely, a big pile of suck.

Yuck. The only two I liked were Chris and Blake.

I hope the girls do better.

This dude’s camera mugging is getting on my nerves. Simon is right. He wasn’t any better than ok.

Aaaaaand…VoteForTheWorst has chosen Sundance Head. Ugh.

If they mixed the girls and boys today ,all the guys would be gone. They were terrible.

I think the only one who was really good was Sligh. I’d also keep Blake and Sanjaya just because I like them. The rest can go home now, as far as I’m concerned.

OK, that bit at the end there, that Phil did? With the eyebrow? Showed me just how perfect this guy would be as Riff-Raff in the “Rocky Horrow Show.” (Also, in the recap, I discovered exactly how much makeup Phil is wearing, and it’s totally creepy. If you’re going to have that much blush on, put on a dress, or at least some eyeliner. Day-um.)

Confidential to Ryan: Shut. Up. You’re the host, but this isn’t your show. Shut. Up! Simon actually might know what he’s talking about, you know?

And in the recap, I believe very strongly that Rudy looks like what you would get if Danny & Oswald from “The Amazing Race” had a love child.

No idea who’s going home … maybe Sundance and Nick? Not a clue. I’m not voting for any of these people. Maybe next week. Maybe.

Yes, I know it will be my fault. Whatever.
