Stephanie isn’t doing this song justice. See, I’m not a good judge tonight because I remember Dusty and that wasn’t even close.
Steph is good, but I think she’ll get overshadowed by the heavyweights later. She’ll probably be safe. I disagree with Randy, I don’t think she was pitchy.
I totally agree. They talk about the dangers of covering Stevie or Whitney, but I really heard the difference with Stephanie.
She gets major points from me for not smiling in a sad song, though. Unfortunately it’s a skill that seems to be rare on this show.
“Nightclubby” is a fair characterization but she didn’t suck. I think she’ll be fine.
I love that song, and I really like Stephanie. With that said, Nadia Turner did it a million times better. It was just not a great vocal. Hopefully she’ll survive this week and go back to being great.
Does she have a black eye? Or did the makeup just go wrong on one side?
I think Stephanie’s performance was competent, but we’ve seen her do much better. And I don’t like the “shoehorned into her dress” look, but that’s probably just me.
I agree with this, about Stephanie. The outfit was too modern for the theme, or something. (The blue eyeshadow was spot on, though.) I also think this song was wrong for her, somehow – I can no more get 100% behind Stephanie singing this than I could get 100% behind Beyoncé singing it. Which, I guess, is my fundamental problem with Stephanie: who is she? She sounds like the lead singer in a Destiny’s Child cover band. And I kind of think she needs to unclench a little bit.
Someone better do a Beatles song.
Again with the closet jokes…
Ok, what is the topic for tonight?
Oh, and I like Blake…
I like Blake. I really do. He’s just fun to watch.
I like Blake. The guy just has a charm to him. I think his vocals are only average (tho tonight was pretty good) but he’s a master of smoke and mirrors and he’s always memorable. I should find him gimmicky and one-trick-pony but I don’t. That was cool.
ETA the dancing was pretty smooth too.
Could have written that myself.
Except I would have added a line about how smokin’ hot he was tonight. Whew.
“British Invasion.”
I must admit I didn’t care for Blake’s performance. The beatboxing – and those ghastly pants – are a distraction. And he started in the wrong key. About a third lower, and he would have been balls-on, I think. It was just a little too high for him.
Blake’s clothes were terrible, but that’s not the only reason I had a strong desire to remove them…Oh, yeah, the performance was great too. Very smooth.
British invasion, a.k.a. 60’s pop. Fortunately, everyone’s been choosing songs that I really, really like.
I doubt that we will hear any Beatles - the rights are too expensive.
Oh, I like how this song starts…
Oh, I like how this song starts…
Wow, Lakisha really benefited from the sylists.
This song is too boring for her.
Good song for Lakisha!
