I don’t watch the footie, but Das Bruder who is visiting is the one who likes footie. He’s watched Spain-Italy and Spain-Russia at a bar nearby, then come home and attempted to give me the minute-by-minute review.
One German guildie in WoW was totally pissy yesterday, he kept jumping at people’s throats for the smallest thing. Given how he was jumping when Germany made it to semis, I suspect yesterday’s vinegar may be because he doesn’t like the idea of facing Spain in the final, but really, any team that’s good enough to get to the finals is good enough to be feared!
When Germany-Turkey got set as one of the semis, people around the office were saying “that there’s gonna mean a loooot of cops in the streets in Germany…” Does anybody know whether fans in Germany are likely to do stupid shit post-game?
Another recipe to get rain: if you’re in Scotland, getting beautiful, sunny days with nary a breeze, get your brother to come visit. It’s gonna start raining as soon as his foot hits the tarmac at the airport.

**Nava, ** from everything the German news has covered, the Euro Cup fans in general have been really well-behaved. FTR the only place there were any issues after the Germany-Turkey game was Dresden, and that issue was with one small group of fans. It seemed like the general sentiment going into the game was that it was a win-win, because no matter who won everyone would be cheering for the winner in the final.

I’m tired. I worked last night until 10 p.m. and then back in at 8 a.m. this morning. So happy it’s Friday. I need cake. Too bad I don’t have any here. Also need coffee. Wonder if I have time to go to Starbucks before work…
Just a quick visit 'cos I’m having a busy day today, but the good news is that I’s got a new job! Had an interview last week for a programme admin job in Public Health and Epidemiology, and they rang to offer me the post today. Of course I said yes, so I must apologise to Rigs and the rest of the fans, but you’re only getting another month of Tin Knickered Tales before I leave here.
Something tells me there might be a bit of celebrating tonight!
I slept pretty good last night, and I feel good, too! I have two small tasks to do before I have to struggle with this big honkin’ ugly chore that I donwannado. Let’s see how long I can milk the little jobs…

I am now convinced that most of the world is effing crazy–not mentally ill. The mentally ill have more dignity and class than this. Effing crazy. TH has changed all VEB’s passwords and access codes, but there are still the paper files in his office. TH is going to speak to COB again today… )

Everyone’s been really sweet- got some birthday wishes before it was even my birthday in my time zone! Way to make a birthday last!
I got a birthday present at midnight and the kids have something wrapped downstairs I can’t look at.
Out to dinner and a movie later…
Tomorrow is my husband’s bday, so we get to do it all over again!
Seriously- this has been an exceptionally difficult and rocky year starting on this day last year. I am glad this year is done, and can say that I am hopeful for the next.
I am trying very hard to focus on what I have rather than what I miss, what is going well, rather than what fails and be willing to accept the happiness the universe is trying to send my way. With that focus I can start fixing problems and making important changes in a positive context, rather than out of despair and desperation.
My goal for this year is to figure out how I want the next stage of my life to play out- and to identify and surround myself with those who enrich me and lift me rather than those who hurt and bring me down. And how I can be a positive person in others’ lives.
And yay! for the new job, BooFae! I will miss the Tin Knickers stories, though; I do hope you have someone at your new job – who you don’t work directly with or for – who’s also crazy enough to acquire a great nickname and provide lots of fodder for entertaining tales!
I have been a very, very good girl – I plugged away steadily all night long, and am now within an hour or two of finishing up this whole thing. And I even feel pretty good! I took lots of breaks for things like stretching, eating fruit, and otherwise being as healthy as I could, so I’m quite awake and not feeling particularly physically beat. It was definitely that nice nap yesterday that did the trick. I remember one week in college where I had a whole pile of looooong papers to write and take-home tests to complete, so I’d sleep in long naps, and I think I ended up getting fewer than 8 hours of sleep in 5 days, without caffeine or even any of Dr. Speed’s specialty! (Back in those days, you’d go to see Dr. Speed at the college health clinic, and he’d give you a little bottle of magic wake-up pills. Needless to say, he was very popular! :eek: )
Anyway, back to work. And then when I’m finished, I’m going to celebrate by doing absolutely nothing for the rest of the day!

rigs - Well, if you want to get technical, I do sometimes get worked up about the cats in heat – 'cos I get annoyed enough to roust myself out of slumber, grab the squirt bottle and spray the living hell across a good 45° of arc just in case either of the felines thinks they can escape the dousing by running, because if I’m roused to that extent, I’m not going to be satisfied just scaring them off; someone is getting dunked.
Okay, back to work and try and get a bit of blogging done.

Someone (Mama Tigs?) was asking about washers/dryers a couple days ago, and I forgot to respond at the time. We got a new set a few months ago and looooove them. I don’t know the exact model, but they’re from GE, and the washer’s a front-loader. The front-loader is great. It holds big loads, uses less water and less soap, and gets them really really clean. The one down side is that it takes much longer to run a load than the old kind. It’s usually a little more than an hour for a load to go through the washer, where it used to be under 1/2 an hour. But we’ve gotten used to that and all the other good stuff makes up for it. The dryer has a sensor so it only dries them as much as you want - to still damp, mostly dry, dry, or really dry (or something like that) - and shuts off when its done. I like that a lot because it’s not wasting energy continuing to dry already-dry clothes. So anyway, I’d highly recommend the GE washers/dryers.
Also, check to see if there are scratch-n-dent appliance stores in your area. We saved at least $200 buying our W/D compared to going to Home Depot or Lowe’s or somewhere like that. Yeah, they have scratches/marks on them, but on the sides or on top (where we can hide them by setting something there), and they come with the full factory warranty so they’re still guaranteed to work right. And since the W/D are in a closet anyway, who cares about a couple scratches?
Today’s my Friday coverage day so I’m stuck at work all day. But at least it’ll be really quiet here this afternoon! And the Big Boss (CMO) is here today too, and rumor is that he likes to leave by 2-3pm even on the days he’s covering and to tell the other coverage people to leave too so I should be able to get out of here well before 5. So I’m not too unhappy to be here.
Plus it’s all overcast with showers/t-storms predicted. Might as well spend a yucky Friday at work and get to spend the nice ones outside, right?
