an early yet hurried MMP

It was gt who was asking about brands of appliances, not me, taxi. But wow, your front-loading washer is slow. Our new washer and dryer take less than 1/2 each, and the cycles usually end at about the same time. It’s quite impressive!

I am full of grrrr! right now. After calling everyone under the sun about picking up our old sofa, I finally was able to find one who said they could do the minor repairs it needed. So we waited nearly 3 weeks for the pickup – and then they wouldn’t take the sofa anyway. Because they don’t do repairs.

So right now I’m on hold with the nice lady at the Department of Sanitation about picking it up. Next Wednesday. So I guess we’re going to push it out by the curb and put a note on it, and if someone takes it in the meantime, I’ll cancel with the trash folks. And they don’t even charge for it! So I guess we’re going to have that superior white trash lawn decoration of the half-rotted old couch in the yard for a week. Hmm…maybe I should get a wishing well and toss a old toilet out there, too!

Happy Birthday Soapy!!!

And a Happy Firday to the rest of us.

Mumsy Dearest is heading back home today. Thankfully. It hasn’t been the most pleasant visit, what with my sister’s drama-queen histrionics, the whole kicking-out incident, and me being at work the entire time. I feel especially bad about that last part - I knew it wouldn’t be a very good time to come for a visit and warned her about it, but she insisted she’d be okay with it.

Tonight, I plan on going home, falling into bed, and sleeping properly for the first time all week.

Ah, that’s right. I’m a little forgetful. Yeah, it is slow. But it does such a good job, that I’m just sorta getting used to it and planning chores around it.

Taters/swampy is it ok to leave the bell peppers out of the grilled **NOT **that you’re talking about? I get grief from Hubby Dearest whenever I buy peppers 'cause they’re not in season and they’re too darned expensive. I love peppers so sometimes I buy them anyway ('cause it’s kinda hard to have stuffed peppers without them) but if they’re not strictly necessary, I’d rather not have to listen to “this grocery bill is too expensive” again.

It depends on the cycles you pick. Our FL washer can do a quick wash in about 25 minutes, on up to a time-gobbling combination of something like Bulky, Extra Water, Extra Rinse, Sanitize, Extra-High Spin that clocks in at about two hours. But, it will be the cleanest your comforter has ever been in its life! Another but - thanks to the extra-high spin, that comforter will be dry in about half an hour.

Fairly mundane: I fixed the grandfather clock last night. It was being cantankerous and would randomly run for maybe a day, maybe 20 minutes before stopping. And when it was running, the “beat” was wildly wrong. It was going tock-tick…tock-tick…tock-tick… So, I peeked inside, and a little mechanical intuition later, I realized that the pendulum hanger had popped off the verge. A little mumbling and cussing helped me get my fingers in there, and the hanger was once again where it belonged. Put the pendulum back on, and now it’s happily going tick…tock…tick…tock…tick…tock…

Enough ticking and tocking. I need more caffeine, then it’s off to the truck wash, dog wash, propane place, food place, big food place, post office <whine!>, and then back home to clean out the barbecue grills, mop the floors, vacuum, and exhort Invisible Tenant to get off his ass and clean, well, anything. Preferably the bathrooms.

Since I’m at work and it’s dead here, I’ve been doing a little reading online. You never know what you will find when you are innocently browsing a scrapbook forum. I found a post for Bacon Chocolate Chip cookies. Yup. Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Read the recipe at your own risk. As much as I love bacon and chocolate, I don’t believe that I will be making these cookies.

Grrrr.

Grrrrrrrr.

GRRRRRR!

Rogers announced their iPhone plans today.

They suck. Hard.

That is all.

Well, Hippo Birdy there, O Cleanest One of All! Many happy returns and stuff–that was a very nicely philosophical post there, I diggeded it…

Mork, FIX YOUR CATS! If they are in heat and yowling they are broken and NEED FIXED! Don’t make me turn this MMP around, young man! Seriously, though, many female animals will get infections if they’re allowed to go through too many heat cycles without being bred and who the hell needs more kittens, anyway?

Urp… bacon… chocolate chips… cookies… hjork! I’m not even gonna read that recipe because some things just warp the space time continuum simply by existing and that’s one of them.

I have a stack set W/D but if I ever have to get another one there’s this totally badass machine that does BOTH! It’s a major Energy Star appliance, the guvmint gives you a bigass tax break if you buy it, hardly uses any water and then it hyper spins the water out and turns itself into a dryer–the only downcheck is a looooong overall cycle, but the capacity is pretty good and for a single person or a couple who don’t let the laundry pile up this thing would be fabulous. I saw it at Fry’s and can’t for the life of me recall who makes it but it was luv at first sight…

Taxi, where are you finding that peppers are so spendy right now? I just bought some HUGE red bells at Winco for .78/each–that’s not bad at all and the green ones were even less. I don’t buy the green ones much because the flavor’s a bit too bitter for me.

Congrats on the new job, BooFae! Don’t worry, DoRe, there are ALWAYS annoying coworkers! I think there’s a major manufacturing concern that ships them out worldwide…

So I got annoyed at Home Despot because they carry a certain pipe strap I need but when I called to have them ship me 300 of them they insisted it would take over TWO WEEKS! I called BS on that and yesterday I stormed three HDs and found 75 of the things. I’m hitting another four stores this morning and might get the other five or six in the area over the weekend. My eeeeeeevil plan is to buy them out, let them reorder, then rinse/repeat ad infinitum. They will soon find it is just easier to give me what I want in a reasonable time frame! Either that or I’ll find another distributor who’s quicker and cheaper, but in the meantime I’m having fun striking blows at THE MAN.

When will the world discover that things will go much easier for it if everybody just does it MY WAY?! It’s not like I’m asking for much…

MCUNE the original name is Microwave N.O.T.. I anxiously await the name change. The Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies intrigue me. I really want to try 'em.

BooFae congrats on the new gig! May you be the most annoyin’ person there.

SmatiePants I like your evilness.

taxi you can indeed leave out the bell peppers. The thing about Those Friggin’ Good Potatoes (Hee! I love the name!) is the peppers are optional. I also shared a recipe for grilled N.O.T. that calls for bell peppers. They can be left off there too. However, IMO, the peppers really add to the grilled flavors.

Ok, ol’ y’all know who is on his way with some Chinese food for N.O.L.. I still have a couple hours of work to do. I made an executive decision to mow this mornin’ cause we’re promised tstorms by mid to late afternoon. Thus, I ain’t done a whole bunch of work work. After we eat and ol’ y’all know who leaves cause he’s gotta go back to work, I’ll finish up.

Dindin tonight will be grilled mini cheeseburgers. MMMMMMMM… I bought some square rolls and made up little burgers which shall be grilled later. Whilst the grill is goin’ Ima throw on some dawgs for tomorrow’s N.O.L. and some chicken boobs that will be cut up to go on sallits for tomorrow night’s dindin. I’m a multi-tasker when it comes to the grill. HMMMMMMMM… I have some fresh corn… OOH… I’ll shuck the corn and grill some corn too. OOH… CutiePie I made your Baked N.O.T. Salad to go with the burgers and now the corn. Instead of bakin’ the N.O.T. I boiled some new N.O.T. cause I have a metric buttload of those little boogers right now and love 'em. I sampled the results…

YUUUUUUMMMMMM!!!

I got a feelin’ that this will show up several times throughout this summer.
-swampbear (tryin’ for the record for number of times N.O.T. is used in one post)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOAPY!!!

Congrats on the new job, BooFae!

I came to work late this morning because I had to swing by my daughter’s old high school and pick up the certified transcripts. The policy is you get one set free, which are mailed to the student’s place of choice. You pay for any extras. I chatted with the lady for a bit, then asked what I owed. She told me I didn’t owe a thing. I asked if she was sure because I had read that I had to pay. She told me I didn’t owe a thing and it was her pleasure. That made me feel nice. I must have a little good karma built up somewhere. It’s a nice feeling.

Mr. Taters will be honored to know that the recipe name has been changed to what he calls them.

I have no idea what tonight’s dinner will be. Maybe some chicken, maybe a salad of some sort.

I should work now, though I have a serious case of the donwannas.

Name has been changed!

Happy birthday, Prof. Rapunzel!

Sorry, read everything but am about to keel over from lack of sleep.

Mahna, did we miss your birthday?

We’ve been to the Maul and out to buy tea today. It’s bloody hot. Make it stop. Actually, it’s just sticky. There may be pizza tonight instead of cooking.

Oops… I WAS reading the grilled potatoes recipe. Which sounds just like the recipe for Those Friggin’ Good Potatoes but with everything in chunks instead of slices and then it’s cooked on the grill instead of in the microwave.

Smarty, we’re in the Upper Midwest so peppers will have to be trucked in for another two months. If we’re lucky, they’re $1.50 apiece, but $2 is more common. And then half the time they’re already overripe and on their way to bad at the store before you even think about bringing them home during your weekly shopping trip and then holding on to them for a few days because you don’t want them right away but you don’t want to make another trip to the store for just one thing. It’s really annoying.

The stores also seem to have a problem keeping good garlic in stock. At least 90% of the time when I look for garlic in either of our two major chain grocery stores it’s bad or nearly bad with the black dust that precedes mold. I really don’t get it. I’m from a northern climate so it’s not like I’m used to an area where these things grow locally year-round, but at home we never had this much trouble getting good garlic or red/orange/yellow bell peppers. Grrrr.

Mork, shall I walk over and smack someone in marketing with a large smelly trout? They’re kind of on the way to Tim Horton’s, actually, so it’s not that big a deal for me… plus it would be nice to step away from my desk for a little bit. (also, I usually want to smack marketing for one thing or another, so this is just a convenient excuse)

McUne, I just might try those cookies - I’ve seen weirder combinations work out before, and I’m a sucker for sweet-and-salty in my cookies. At the very least, it might distract The Boy from his bacon ice cream plot for a little while.

LiLi, my birthday was Tuesday. Not that it’s a big deal… I’d rather forget that whole day existed, given that it would be best likened to a giant stinking pile of dog turds even before Sister Dearest took it upon herself to ruin it further. Let’s just celebrate 30 again next year, shall we?

Is it 5pm yet? Please?

Taxi, I don’t know what stores you have by you, but I typically get my veggies at my local Hy-Vee store, and refuse to pay more than $1 for the green ones, and they are typically 99 cents or if I’m lucky on sale for 50 cents each.

If you are going to use your peppers right away check out Aldi’s. I only shop their for produce, and only if I’m going to use it right away. But they do have some good deals on produce.

In other news. I STILL HAVE A JOB!!! YAY!!! throws confetti

I truly wasn’t expecting to have one, but out of the 5 of us, 3 of us wanted to move on so I still get to stay in my current position!!! Though our roles will be changing somewhat now that there will be only two of us, but I’m guessing that means we will be busier, which is a VERY good thing. I can’t tell you how relieved I am!

**LiLi ** can you please post your recipe for Feta dip?

Yay for still havin’ a job MCUNE! Thanks for makin’ the name change. Taters be sure and point out to Mr. Taters he has been given due credit for the name change. I can’t wait til I make ‘em next and announce that they are now called THOSE FRIGGIN’ GOOD POTATOES.

taxi sometimes when I’m all adventurous I do add peppers to THOSE FRIGGIN’ GOOD POTATOES (it just somehow looks like it should be in all caps). The grilled ones, as I said, are fine without the peppers but to me the peppers give 'em a special flavor. Then again I be a peppers freak.

I’m through work! YAY!!! I say it’s adult beverage time. I don’t know if’n I want a beerverage or sump’n cocktaily. HMMMMMMM… I have limes… a gin and tonic sounds nummy!

Ok, off to fix me a g & t and light the grill cause it’s grillin’ time! I wanna get it done before the storms come and clouds are buildin’ up out there.

Later Y’all!

Hey! What’d I ever do to you?? :frowning: :stuck_out_tongue:

Yay on the job front, McUne! Both having one and being busier!

Also, McUne, I haven’t heard of Hy-Vee so I don’t think we have them around here. And yeah, I can find decent prices on green peppers, but like Smarty, I don’t really like them as much as the red/orange/yellow ones. I am a pepper freak, too, swampy, but that’s what’s gotten me into trouble on the grocery-budget-front when they cost $2 apiece around here. So I’m trying to cut back on my pepper habit. Or at least be a little more circumspect in my pepper buying. But when they come into season locally, watch out! We’ll have a houseful of them! And I’ll be putting them into everything. Coming soon: red bell peppers on cereal! :stuck_out_tongue:

OK, so how long do you think I have to stay on my coverage day? We get out at noon on Fridays but one person from each department has to provide coverage. (Technically, it’s one manager and one non-manager, but all the managers wigged out today. So it’s just me with no manager around to say it’s ok to go. So it’s up to me and my conscience as to how long to stay.) The office officially closes at 4. It’s almost 3. So what say the wise Mumpers about how soon you’d leave?

Yay McUne! That’s great news! I’m so glad that things worked out for you, job-wise!

Wait, you’re on my way to Tim Horton’s?

Actually, I meant only the marketing dept for my current place of employment. They make my life difficult in so many ways.

I will get hit by many dead smelly trout come July 11th by my pissed-off friends, who have been slobbering over the iPhone for many many months now and who, for some strange reason, hold me personally accountable for my employer’s craptacular pricing policies (mostly because they don’t have the option of taking a swing at marketing on their way to Tim’s the way I do).

Ah, ok. I am much relieved. I was expecting a dead, wet trout to come flying at my head from a northeasterly direction at any minute. Ducking down behind this ficus was getting kinda old.
