an early yet hurried MMP

Morning, all. It’s another warm and sticky day here, too. I’m trying to get it together to be ambitious, but thus far haven’t had much luck. Lazing about yesterday was quite delightful!

Our family geography joke is the time Young Tiger had to pick a country for a 7th grade in-depth country report. He meant to pick Panama because of the canal, but he got mixed up and picked Paraguay. So we’ve been joking about the Paraguay Canal ever since. He is not amused.

You’re in luck, FCM – there’s a terrific car repair place on Route 2 not far from us. It’s run by a guy named Sergio, which is what we always call it, but it’s also known as the Edgewater Sunoco, except that it recently switched oil companies and is now the Edgewater Oceanic. The locals, of course, call it by some older name that I forget right now; yes, it’s been around for a while. Whatever the case, they are honest, as reasonably priced as you’ll find, and will only do the work that’s necessary; if something isn’t necessary, they’ll tell you so. And I think every time we’ve had a car in for work, it’s come in under estimate. And they don’t treat female customers differently than male, except possibly perhaps to be even nicer. Just ask snowbunny; they treated her very well indeed.

We’ve actually been very lucky here – found a good car repair place, a good handyman, and a good computer repair guy. Thus far we’re batting .1000!

I guess I should go do something constructive. There’s a lot I need to do around the house today. It’s way too hot to do anything outdoors, that’s for sure.

Wow, where is everyone?

Back from church and brunch. Went early to work in the church garden for a while.

Need to work in the garden for a while, then go watch bike race a bit, then back to taking up carpet. Woo hoo.

I made Heath Bar cake and cleaned the kitchen while listening to David Sedaris, “Me Talk Pretty One Day”. I love him. I’m going out with a girlfriend later today. A neighbor came by with leaf lettuce out of his garden. He wants hollyhock seeds later this summer (mine are about 7 feet tall and I have pink and dark magenta. I’ve let them naturalize and I’m never quite sure what color will be displayed.)
#2 son and I are working on a puzzle. Daughter is at the beach. Got an email from #1 son–he says Ayer’s Rock was incredible. They are now on their way to Sydney. He comes home Sunday.
Where is Haze? I get to visit with a Doper tomorrow, I’m excited! WhyNot is coming down to take some lemon balm off my hands. Yay!

Hm, I’ve managed to take a shower and clean up and that’s about it. In a minute, I’ll fix my hair and when the son is cleaned up we’ll head out to a late breakfast. After that, it’s a stop at WallyWorld to fix the son’s glasses and maybe see if there are some inexpensive shorts that look good on me.

There are a couple of other errands, but I think that’s about the extent of our day. We were going to drive down to the boat dealer and see about putting our boat on consignment there, but we figure we’ll call them first and see if they’re even willing to do it. No sense in driving all the way there if we don’t have to.

It’s beautiful here again, although hot. I’m hoping I can talk Mr. Taters into helping me drag around the grill to the backyard so we can grill tonight rather than heating up the house by cooking.

leaving Costcovia…

Spent waaaaaay too much, but we’re out of everything!

Well, I finally managed to get my hair colored–shower drain issues and a plumber visit precluded getting it done earlier this week and my grey roots were showing REALLY badly. Now I’m back to my usual shade (I think it’s called “Improbable Red” :stuck_out_tongue: ) Cool showers are so nice when the weather’s like this!

Here ya goMs Taters, I got the first one on that list, the NewAir AF-330 but I also considered the Symphony Sumo-J because it takes care of a larger air volume. I might still get that one for the other half of the house.

I’m thinking strawberries & cheesecake for breakfast, am I right or am I right?

Hmpf. Wife is in a naggy mood for some reason. She’s reminding me over and over and over about things that she would normally assume I’m going to do because I said I would.

I don’t need to be reminded 6 times that I have to hang the curtains she washed later. Or that she needs me to drop off the water bill payment tomorrow.

Or any of those other things.

Whew - home at last! The Beetle is at our car guys’ shop. It’s such a fun story…

We got to the camp and found the car easily, and the oil under it was apparent. Since it had been left parked on a slope, **FCD ** started it just long enough to back it up to a flat spot. I found a hunk of wood to use as a chock, and he jacked the front end up.

The leak was from a crack in the oil pan around the drain plug. After our initial reaction of “Oh (*#%^(#&#!!”, **FCD ** sized up the situation and sent us to KMart for kitty litter, acetone, and some fuel tank repair epoxy. We also had to get him a pair of shorts as he’d rolled into the oil on the ground and gotten his jeans saturated (they’re in the washer now, after a good spraydown with degreaser.)

He cleaned the area of the tank with degreaser, then wiped it down with acetone. I kneaded up the epoxy clay-like stuff (like that crap Billy Mays yells about on TV) and he forced what he could into the crack and spread the rest over the entire area. We had to let it sit for an hour or so to cure. SIL and I drove down to the dining hall as daughter was just about to go to lunch. We told her we were taking the car with us. She was not pleased, but it’s not like there was much choice.

After sharing the good news and watching her unhappily follow her charges into the dining hall, we went to Wendy’s for a beverage and some air conditioning. We stayed there till a bit after 1. Back at camp, we checked for an oil leak (just a teensy bit), packed up the tools and stuff, cleaned up the kitty litter/oil sorb, and headed home, us following FCD. We stopped once en route to check the oil level, and it was fine.

Tomorrow morning, SIL will go to the shop and talk to them about what needs to be done. After all, it is his wife’s car, altho, interestingly enough, she called us, not him, when it bled oil. I believe I’ve exceeded my allotment of commas with this post.

Sketties for supper, with garlic bread. I need a shower. Sadly, nothing else will get done today. Guess it’s a good thing we’ve got a 3-day weekend coming up.

Well, gee, SmartiePants this is what I think of as a swamp cooler.

Herbs the ham did not go to church. Well, the piece I ate for brekkies did, I guess. Acutally people came over for lunch after church. Periodically I get this urge to feed people Sunday lunch. I don’t know where that comes from it just happens. So, we lunched on ham, CutiePie’s baked N.O.T. salad, steamed cabbage, carrots, deviled aigs, rolls and a nummy caramel cake brought by a guest who knows somebody who makes nummy cakes. The icing was a true sugar rush! Everybody ate plenty, we talked, we laughed, they went home and the dishwasher is all loaded up and ready to run this evenin’. I prefer to turn the dishwasher on when I go to bed. I think it’s because I read that nights are a better time to run a dishwasher. Or it’s just another weird thing I do. I forget which.

Anyways, I’s tahred and full. Ol’ y’all know who is at his place doin’ laundry. We may or may not go get supper later on. I’m leanin’ towards not cause like I said. I’s full as a tick!

Ok, off to surf a bit.

Later Y’all!

Anyone feel like getting us started tomorrow? If not, I’ll think something up.

Wow…that sounds messy, FCM. Glad the car is safely at the shop.

I widened the strip I started to dig in the tree lawn the other day and started one on the other side of the little walk that goes all the way to the street. I also finally set up the string for the morning glories to climb and planted the last two of them. Started digging out the evergreen shrub stump in front (I’ve gotten rid of two evergreens this year. Still figuring out what to replace them with.

I was about to start mulching when it started to rain.

I’ve decided to work on the tack strip that I exposed yesterday for a bit, then I’ll go watch some of the bike races (whenever the rain decides to let up…).

Back in a bit.

Heath Bar cake recipe, please, rigs!
Right now we have a friend over who sometimes bugs the shit out of me. The one who always sends me those long articles to read? That one. I just sent him and Mr. Lissar out to buy cat litter and ice cream. Sometimes I think it would be nice topunch him, but he’s a weightlifter, 6"4, and outweighs me by, oh, 150lbs. I wouldn’t win.

Yesterday we provided Muppet’s Boy with a recipe for bacon ice cream. Sorry for ruining your life, there.

Yeah, sure, Li-Li, blah blah blah… But where are the pictures???

Ugh. Stoopit weather is messing with my head… I’ve been feeling blargh all day (and yes, blargh is a perfectly cromulent word to describe feeling utterly useless and unmotivated).

Yesterday’s visit with LiLi and family was fun. Nat is even more adorable in person, which is lucky for him, because I don’t let just any ol’ baby chew on my skirt. There are pictures, and yes, they are of us and not of a pair of supermodels.

The Boy has been temporarily stalled in his quest for bacon ice cream. The tub for our ice cream maker is not frozen right now, and I’ve hidden all the bacon. Ha!

Photos will be posted shortly. When I can work up the energy to process and upload them, that is.

Blergh. I’ve spent the afternoon in physical labor. Gave the front bathroom its semiannual deep clean/massive scrub, mopped a bunch of floors, and cleaned a bunch of walls which Rusty likes to rub against right after he’s been outside wallowing in the dirt (he’s actually created a wallow right outside the back door, stoopid dog!). I had fun, like when I was cleaning the bathtub and I bumped the water knob and at that point discovered that Papa Tigs had left the shower knob thingy up, so I promptly got a cold shower on my head. Of course, since that bathroom has NO air moving in it when I’m on my hands and knees scrubbing, I was soon so sweat-drenched it didn’t matter anyway. I started off listening to my iPod because it’s nice to clean to music, but after a while I was so sweaty my earphones kept falling out of my ears. And I have the nice in-the-canal type that normally stay in through anything.

Now I’m all showered and clean, and sitting here, which is exactly what I plan to do the rest of the evening, i.e. absolutely nothing. Tomorrow I’ll tackle the other bathroom, but since I use it primarily, it’s much cleaner so its semiannual deep clean is a lot easier.

I have finally, however, after 12 years of marriage, extracted a promise from Papa Tigs that once we get the house completely straightened out and organized, I can then hire someone to come in and clean once a month or so! I had a cleaning lady for over ten years before I met him, but he’s been thoroughly opposed to it. It’s been a slow downhill battle, but the house has finally reached the state where he admits we need it. YAY!!! I hate to clean so, SO much. And the more transcription work I have, the less housecleaning I’m inclined to do, and lately I’ve had so many massive piles of transcription work it’s not even funny.

But that’s what I call incentive to get the house in shape!

Time for din-din and then a lovely evening of vegging. Ta, everybody!

And where are the pictures???

gratz to BooFae, McUNE and the newlyweds!

Back to being stunned that Spain won the Euros…

Yeah – ***Viva Espa~na!!! *** (dunno how to do the ~n bit right…)

If for no other reason than they beat Germany.

They also just played better…

**Muppet **-- where are the pics!?

**Haze **-- where are you!?

Okay, okay! Pics!

And even more pics.

Eeesh.

Ingrates.

I’ve got to say – the two of you could pass yourselves off as a pair of sisters (especially dressed so similarly, I assume coincidentally?)

ETA: whoever is first on 11 – remember I set you up!
